Patent number: 4790736Abstract: An apparatus wherein there is provided a source of fiber forming material, with said fiber forming material being pumped into a die having a plurality of spinnerets about its periphery. The die is rotated at a predetermined adjustable speed, whereby the liquid is expelled from the die so as to form fibers. It is preferred that the fiber forming material be cooled as it is leaving the holes in the spinnerets during drawdown. The fibers may be used to produce fabrics, fibrous tow and yarn through appropriate take-up systems. The pumping system provides a pumping action whereby a volumetric quantity of liquid is forced into the rotational system independent of viscosity or the back pressure generated by the spinnerets and the manifold system of the spinning head, thus creating positive displacement feeding. Positive displacement feeding may be accomplished by the extruder alone or with an additional pump of the type generally employed for this purpose.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1984Date of Patent: December 13, 1988Assignee: John E. Patent number: 4371329Abstract: The invention relates to confectionery moulding apparatus through which moulds, each containing at least one mould cavity having minute holes in its base, are traversed successively by a conveyor. After filling with confectionery and subsequently cooling the moulds pass in inverted relation beneath a demoulding unit which blows air through the holes in the bases of the mould cavities to eject the confectionery from the cavities. To reduce the force required for demoulding each mould has a backing plate spaced from the perforated base of the mould cavity or each mould cavity to define an air chamber and the demoulding unit includes an air pipe which is brought into sealing engagement with a hole in the backing plate of each mould to deliver air into the chamber and so effect demoulding.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1981Date of Patent: February 1, 1983Assignee: Baker Perkins Holdings LimitedInventor: Gordon Steels

Patent number: 4330253Abstract: The specification discloses an improved shut off valve for a canister and lid assembly used as part of a medical suction apparatus. The valve includes a cylindrical plunger made of a soft rubber-like material and having an upwardly facing concave disc integrally formed on the top of the plunger. When the fluid within the canister rises to a predetermined level, the plunger floats upwardly forcing the disc into a sealing relationship covering and blocking a suction port. Alternately, the soft rubber plunger may be dimensioned for use as a plunger cap for the upper end of a hard plastic plunger. The soft rubber plunger and integral concave disc are formed in a composite die, including a disc die and a plunger die. Rubber is injected into the composite die through a bore to form the plunger and integral concave disc. To remove the rubber concave disc from the disc die, air is injected into a bore while the disc die is simultaneously moved away from the plunger die.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1980Date of Patent: May 18, 1982Inventor: Robert L. Patent number: 4318684Abstract: In the method and installation of this invention a piece of soft cheese formed in a mold constituted by a vertical cylinder open at both ends and resting on a plate with one of the open ends is removed from the mold cylinder by simultaneously lifting the mold cylinder and the piece of cheese to displace them away from the plate. The piece of cheese is displaced by a suction cup mounted above the other open end of the mold cylinder and the mold cylinder is displaced by a vertically movable clamp holding the mold cylinder tightly. The plate is then substituted by a support for the piece of cheese and the suction cup is vertically displaced relative to the clamp so as to extract the piece of cheese through the open mold cylinder end and to place it on the support.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1981Date of Patent: March 9, 1982Assignee: Cartier S.A.Inventor: Michel Boucher

Patent number: 4316708Abstract: A machine and method of operation are disclosed for continuously molding solid pellets from a mud composition. In a specific application, the machine is useful for producing an oxidation catalyst in pellet form. The machine includes a rotatable disk having small openings therein, which provide mold cavities. As the disk is rotated, the mud composition is injected into the mold openings through an injection head, which rides against the front face of the disk. The mud is retained in each mold opening by a backing plate, which rides against the back face of the disk. Ambient air is passed through a heater located at the top of a housing which partially encloses the disk. The heated air is circulated downwardly on both sides of the disk to dry the mud in the mold openings. An ejection head is positioned such that it rides against the front face of the rotating disk at a point behind the injection head. Pressurized air is forced through air passages in the ejection head, which register with the mold openings.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1977Date of Patent: February 23, 1982Assignee: The Dow Chemical CompanyInventors: Allen G. Patent number: 4312823Abstract: The invention relates to a method of manufacturing a plastic record carrier, in particular a video disc, in which a mold is provided with a fluid molding resin. A substrate is then deformed into a convex shape and pressed against the resin disposed on the center of the mold. The molding resin is rolled over the surface of the mold with a circular fluid front while the shape of the substrate is simultaneously changed from convex to planar form. After the molding resin has been spread over the entire mold and the planar substrate bears against the resin layer, the molding resin is then cured. The substrate is preferably deformed by flexibly supporting a planar substrate about its edge and then applying a different gas pressure on both sides of the substrate. The molding resin is preferably radiation-curable and is cured by exposure to, for example, ultra-violet light through the substrate.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1980Date of Patent: January 26, 1982Assignee: U.S. Philips CorporationInventors: Hillebrand J. Patent number: 4289726Abstract: Straight walled hollow containers may be molded without taper, according to the present invention. Two mold halves, when brought together define a cavity configured to the outer wall of a hollow plastic container to be injection molded, and also an opening at one end of the cavity to enclose the stem of a core defining the inner wall of the hollow plastic container. When the core is disposed in the cavity, it is centered within the latter. Thereby a space is provied between the inner walls of the mold halves and the outer wall of the core to receive plastic material injected under high pressure through a sprue, also defined by the inner walls of the mold halves. After injection, the plastic is cooled to just below the softening point of the plastic. At this point separation of the mold halves surrounding the outer portion of the core, is commenced and a force is applied to initiate withdrawal of the core from between the mold halves.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1979Date of Patent: September 15, 1981Inventor: Joseph B.
