Female Mold And Means To Shape Parison Directly By Internal Fluid Pressure, (e.g., Blow Mold, Etc.) Patents (Class 425/522)
  • Patent number: 5067890
Abstract: An in-mold label supply system (20) for a plastic blow molding machine (22) has particular utility for use with rotary wheel type blow molding and includes a hopper assembly (68) including a feed hopper (70) for positioning discrete sheet-like labels (72) in a vertical feed stack (74). A feeder (76) of the system includes a feed member (78) that selectively grips the lowermost label (72) of the feed stack (74) to provide delivery thereof to a conveyor (80) for conveyance to the blow molding machine (22) where a label dispenser (82) transfers the label (72) to a mold (24) of the machine for placement within a mold cavity section (28). A gate (104) of the feeder (76) cooperates with the feed member (78) to permit only the lowermost label (72) to be fed from the feed stack (74) to the conveyor (80). The feed member (78) is preferably embodied by a feed roller (114) to which pressurized gas and a vacuum are alternately fed to control the label feeding.

  • Patent number: 5055022
Abstract: An extrusion device for producing an article of a heterogeneous blend of incompatible polymers, one polymer forming a matrix and the other being in a discontinuous phase within the matrix. The device is used with either side-fed or center-fed multiple parison die heads. The desired heterogeneous resin structure is formed and maintained by a unique extrusion screw and adapter configuration that avoids division of the melt stream to feed the multiple parison die head after formation of the desired resin structure. This is accomplished by a plurality of arcuate flow passages in the terminal portion of the extrustion screw directly feeding each die. The arcuate flow passages are formed by ribs that extend radially inwardly from the extruder barrel toward a flightless terminal portion of the screw shaft and tip. Circulatory resin flow in the arcuate flow passages driven by the screw rotation forms the desired laminar resin structure.

  • Patent number: 4732557
Abstract: The present invention provides an injection stretch blow molding apparatus in which a peripheral edge of a flat preform forms the edge or lip portion of a cup-like container. A securing or grip mold and a core mold are brought together to form the lip. The securing or grip mold is carried on the underside of a rotary transfer disk. The peripheral edge of the preform is sandwiched in between a shoulder formed at the lower end of a blow core and the securing or grip mold when stretch blow molding is performed, resulting in a cup-like container. The finished container is then removed upwardly from the securing or grip mold.

  • Patent number: 4729731
Abstract: A label transferring apparatus useable for in-mold label application. In a first embodiment, a transfer device is mounted on a linear actuator having a piston rod extending out a first end and carrying the label transfer device and extending out the other end whereat it is supported on a track means. A stack of labels is supplied by corresponding two pairs of magazines located at a first radial position. In a second embodiment the linear actuator is mounted so as to be cantilevered back over the forward end of the piston and cylinder which comprises the linear actuator. In this embodiment the piston and cylinder may be shortened by excluding that portion of the piston rod extending out the other end of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4721451
Abstract: An in-mold label dispenser (10) is disclosed as including a label carrier shuttle (40) moved by an operator (46) mounted on a support (36) that is moved rectilinearly on a slideway assembly (34) by an actuator (38) between an aligned position with respect to an open mold (14) and a label transfer position. Label carriers (44) on the shuttle (40) transfer labels (32) from associated label magazines (30) to mold cavity sections (18) in order to perform an in-mold labeling operation of a plastic blow molding machine. A first locator (42) on the shuttle (40) and a second locator (48) mounted for rectilinear movement on the opposite side of the mold from the shuttle are engaged as the shuttle is moved to an inserted position with respect to the open mold. A second actuator (50) moves the second locator (48) between a mold aligned position and a transfer position with the locators engaged so as to provide the labeling operation of the mold.

  • Patent number: 4699585
Abstract: In producing hollow bodies by blow molding from thermoplastic material, a preferably tubular preform is firstly formed, and is then expanded within the blowing mold under the effect of an inert gas under high pressure, until it bears entirely against the inside surface of the blowing mold. Thereafter, a reaction gas such as fluorine is introduced into the hollow body under a considerably lower pressure, while the hollow body is still in the mold, to treat the internal surface of the hollow body to render it impervious to gas and/or liquid. After the reaction has elapsed, a flushing and cooling gas is introduced into the hollow body and is then removed from the blowing mold after the hollow body has sufficiently set.
