Abstract: A food additive composition for ruminants of the dispersion type and a method of continuously producing the same. This food additive composition for ruminants, which contains 40% by weight or more but less than 65% by weight of a basic amino acid and has rumen bypass properties, is formulated into granules in an arbitrary shape which are scarcely classified when added to a silage or another feed. Thus, attempts have been made to develop a method of producing granules by which the milk yield of a lactation cow can be increased. Namely, it is intended to provide a food additive composition for ruminants which contains at least one protecting agent selected from among a hardened vegetable oil and a hardened animal oil having a melting point higher than 50° C. but lower than 90° C., 0.05 to 6% by weight of lecithin, water and 40% by weight or more but less than 65% by weight of a basic amino acid.

Abstract: Disclosed is a flavonoid bioabsorption-promoting composition or food/beverage which can improve the bioabsorption of quercetin or other flavonoids having antioxidant effect and is effective for the prevention of various diseases. It is found that ingestion of apple pectin can improve the bioabsorption of quercetin and other flavonoids and shows higher physiological activity. Based on this finding, a flavonoid bioabsorption-promoting composition or food/beverage can be provided, which contains apple pectin as an active ingredient and therefore can improve the bioabsorbability of a flavonoid and show a flavonoid bioabsorption-promoting activity. By using apple pectin or a food additive containing apple pectin, it becomes possible to provide a food or beverage which contains quercetin or other flavonoids, which are popularly ingested and which are classified in to a category of a processed food including a soft drink, supplement, seasoning, confectionery, and a prepared meal.

Abstract: A method of using hop acids for increasing food and energy uptake from feed by livestock is described which includes delivering the hop acids for oral ingestion to the animals by mixing the acids with livestock feed. The acids are mixed with the feed in an amount to inhibit certain types of undesirable bacteria in the livestock's digestive system, thereby increasing the production of propionate and lactate and decreasing the production of methane gas.

Abstract: The subject invention concerns the reduction of protein aggregation in the neurons of a mammal through the use of a ketogenic treatment such as a ketogenic diet, a physical training regimen and/or administration of agents to increase fatty acid oxidation. Such ketogenic treatment can be useful in the reduction of certain aggregates including amyloid ? peptide, polyglutamine containing huntintin protein, polyglutamine containing androgen receptor, polyglutamine containing atrophin-1, polyglutamine containing ataxins, ?-synclein, prion protein, tau and superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1).

Abstract: Breast milk collection, storage, and feeding apparatus comprising a first storage bottle and first and second differently sized feeding bottles, each of the three bottles having a mouth portion of the same diameter and a common external thread structure, and first and second dual port caps each sized and threaded to attach to each of the three bottles, each dual port cap further having a drip port and a draw port, a pressure relief vent formed therein; and a tethered closure plug unit attached thereto, each tethered closure plug unit having first and second tethered plugs shaped and dimensioned to plug or close a respective one of the drip and draw ports. The apparatus may be used in various manners to transfer milk from the storage bottle to a feeding bottle and to thereafter feed an infant by nipple, syringe, or a gravity/bolus technique.

Abstract: One or more embodiments of the present invention describe a novel use of capsanthin and/or fatty-acyl ester of capsanthin to inhibit both the differentiation of pre-adipocytes to adipocytes and the accumulation of fat in the adipocytes. One or more embodiments of the present invention are based on findings that capsanthin contained in some natural products such as red pepper, paprika, bell pepper, etc. have anti-adipogenic activity by inhibiting both the differentiation of pre-adipocyte into adipocyte and the accumulation of fat in adipocytes, Therefore, this findings provide a functional food and a pharmaceutical composition wherein capsanthins and the extract of any natural products containing the same components are included in the functional food and the pharmaceutical composition, to offer obesity prevention and/or treatment effects.
