Publication number: 20110262665Abstract: The invention relates to a synthetic fibre of the monofilament type for use in an artificial lawn, which synthetic fibre has a width greater than the thickness of the synthetic fibre. The invention also relates to an artificial lawn consisting at least of a backing to which one or more synthetic fibres according to the invention are attached. The object of the present invention is to prevent a weak synthetic fibre as mentioned above which remains prone to splitting and fracture and to provide an improved synthetic fibre for use in an artificial lawn which is sufficiently rigid yet flexible as well and which has the capacity to straighten again so as to be able to take up the varying loads during play, and which is also sufficiently wear-resistant and sliding-friendly, so that the fibre will less tend to assume a flat orientation or split or fracture, and which furthermore does not increase the risk of injury or have an adverse effect on the playing characteristics.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 14, 2010Publication date: October 27, 2011Applicant: TEN CATE THIOLON B.V.Inventors: Marinus Hendrikus Olde Weghuis, Frederik Jan van der Gaag

Patent number: 8039106Abstract: A novel class of flowable biomass feedstock particles with unusually large surface areas that can be manufactured in remarkably uniform sizes using low-energy comminution techniques. The feedstock particles are roughly parallelepiped in shape and characterized by a length dimension (L) aligned substantially with the grain direction and defining a substantially uniform distance along the grain, a width dimension (W) normal to L and aligned cross grain, and a height dimension (H) normal to W and L. The particles exhibit a disrupted grain structure with prominent end and surface checks that greatly enhances their skeletal surface area as compared to their envelope surface area. The L×H dimensions define a pair of substantially parallel side surfaces characterized by substantially intact longitudinally arrayed fibers. The W×H dimensions define a pair of substantially parallel end surfaces characterized by crosscut fibers and end checking between fibers.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2010Date of Patent: October 18, 2011Assignee: Forest Concepts, LLCInventors: James H. Patent number: 8034429Abstract: An aggregate turf filler for use with the turf of athletic fields and landscaped areas which comprise crushed silica sand particles (SiO2) which are substantially round in shape and are sized to be between 12 and 40 mesh. An acrylic based sealer covering the outer surface of each of the silica sand particles. Finally, providing that the silica sand particles have a smooth outer surface, possess an angle of repose of less than 30°, repel water, resist compacting, present no damaging sharp edges when incorporated with the turf and are environmentally safe.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2009Date of Patent: October 11, 2011Assignee: USGreentech, L.L.C.Inventors: Carl L. Patent number: 7993729Abstract: Disclosed is a substrate for artificial turf that includes a base pad with a channel that extends across an upper surface of the pad and a tube that lies within the channel. The base pad has a generally flat lower surface and a generally flat upper surface that is spaced apart and oppositely disposed from the lower surface. The channel has a sidewall and a bottom surface, the sidewall extending from the upper surface of the base pad to the bottom surface of the channel and the bottom surface being spaced apart from the lower surface of the base pad. The tube has a sidewall defining an inner diameter surface and an outer diameter surface, with at least one aperture through the sidewall adjoining the inner diameter surface and the outer diameter surface. The channel and the tube are operable for liquid to flow through. In some instances, a radiant heating wire can extend across the upper surface of the base pad.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 2008Date of Patent: August 9, 2011Inventor: Ronald Wise

Publication number: 20110189408Abstract: A recycling technique for long-pile artificial turfs is provided in which a spent artificial turf is recycled and formed into an elastic particulate substance suitable for use as a filler for long-pile artificial turfs. The particulate substance (5), with which the space among the piles (4) of an artificial turf (3) is filled, is obtained by using as a raw material an artificial turf comprising at least 50 wt. % thermoplastic resin, adding an elastomer to the raw material, and forming the resultant mixture into particles. The particulate substance (5) has a specific gravity regulated to 1.10 or higher and is used for the filling.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 28, 2008Publication date: August 4, 2011Inventors: Takeshi Ishimaru, Hideyuki Okuyama

Publication number: 20110183086Abstract: Artificial turf for use with an artificial turf system, which may also include a base layer and a support layer. The artificial turf comprising a backing supporting pile tufts of between ¼? to 4? in length, in position on its upper surface. The backing may comprise a porous synthetic foam or backing sheet. A filler of particles shaped to have no sharp edges and of substantially equal size are interspersed over the backing and about the tufts up to at least half thick length. The artificial turf substantially retains its resiliency, porosity and equal density throughout.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 28, 2010Publication date: July 28, 2011Applicant: INFILLTEC LTD.Inventor: Randolph S.
