  • Patent number: 8894901
Abstract: A method of making a sheet of building material, useful for roofing or siding applications, and the sheet material made by such method. A mixture of a thermoplastic resin and mineral filler is prepared, the resin comprising about 10% to 40% by weight of the mixture and the filler comprising about 60% to 90% by weight. The mixture is mixed at a temperature above the melting point of the resin and is formed into a sheet at such temperature. The sheet is allowed to cool until the surface is at a temperature below the midpoint of the melting range of the thermoplastic resin, e.g. in the range of 210 to 220 degrees F. (99 to 104 degrees C.), for polyethylene, at which point it is strained by passing it through calendering rollers. The sheet material made by this process, having a high concentration of mineral filler, is fire resistant, durable, ductile, of moderate weight and resistant to weathering. It can be produced using relatively inexpensive manufacturing equipment.

Abstract: This invention is intended to provide a cigarette paper capable of reducing both a visible sidestream smoke amount and a carbon monoxide amount in a mainstream smoke. The invention provides a cigarette paper having a grammage of 40 to 55 g/m2 and containing calcium carbonate in an amount of 18 g/m2 or more. Where the primary particles of calcium carbonate having a columnar shape or a needle shape are used, the carbon monoxide amount in the mainstream smoke decreases significantly, as compared with the case where the primary particles of calcium carbonate having another shape are used.

Abstract: The present invention relates to non-combustible composite panels, comprising two outer layers (24) and a core (10, 16). Moreover, the invention provides a method for manufacturing of non-combustible composite panels. The amount of organic ingredients within the core, is reduced insofar as to allow for a heat of combustion adequate to reach non-flammability, whilst providing sufficient flexibility for the composite panel. Magnesium hydroxide is implemented within the core to obtain extraordinary flame retardation. In order to manufacture the inventive composite panels a continuous press (34) is utilised replacing extruders (14) known by the state of the art.
