  • Patent number: 5517786
Abstract: A fishing rod is provided which consists of a foam handle, plastic cylinder, plastic coated heat tape, rechargeable battery pack, on/off toggle button, electronic regulator, reel holder, metal housed ceramic eyes, and tapered rod shaft. Within the foam handle is a plastic cylinder that houses the battery pack and fixtures for electrical contacts. A plastic butt cap screws onto the ends to seal the opening and secure the battery. Lining the interior of the handle is plastic coated heat tape which also lines the interior of the rod shaft. This tape conducts the heat and, along with the electronic regulator, enables the user to grasp a rod that is not too hot to handle. The rechargeable battery pack is removable and lasts from three to four hours, activated when the fisher pushes the toggle button to the "on" position between the handle and the shaft itself; the reel is fastened to this segment. Metal housed ceramic eyes line the length of the tapered rod shaft with the line strung through each of them.

  • Patent number: 5396727
Abstract: A casting handle with a trigger includes a grip area section disposed behind the trigger, a rear section disposed in the rear of the grip area section, and a small-diameter intermediate section interposed between the grip area section and the rear section. The grip area section is expanded both vertically and laterally. The rear section has a vertical height less than the corresponding height of the grip area section. This forms a flat upper surface positioned sufficiently rearward with respect to the grip area section that the wrist of an angler's hand holding the casting handle does not interfere with the casting motion. The constricted cross-section, intermediate section has a lateral width and a vertical height respectively less than the corresponding width and height of the rear section. Consequently, the casting handle allows smooth casting, thumbing and pumping operations as well as improving the angler's ability to operate the fishing rod.

  • Patent number: 5313735
Abstract: A rotatable mechanism for reversibly attaching an extension onto a long member is described; examples include an ergonomically correct extension, which fits and supports the entire natural shape of the arm, from the heel of the hand, along the inner wrist and up the forearm, thus combining the principle of leverage with the body's natural muscular dynamics, to transfer the load and strain away from the wrist to the more powerful muscles of the upper arm and shoulder. In a first embodiment, splines run on the outside of a shaft affixed previously to a handle, and co-operate with splines on the inside surface of a cylindrical hole in the extension. A screw inserted through the extension and threaded into a hole in the end of the handle prevents longitudinal separation between the handle and extension, and the splines prevent rotational movement.

  • Patent number: 5048223
Abstract: A fishing rod has a reel mounting member and grip members secured to an outer periphery of a rod stem member. One end of the grip member is extended to the portion opposite to the reel leg fixing portion in the vicinity of the reel mounting member, so that the stepped portions between the grip members and the reel mounting member are eliminated. As a result, the configuration thereof can be well adapted to the hand, and the ruggedness does not concentrate on the portion. Such a structure does not cause pains in the palm and fingers of the fisher when enjoying the fishing, and enables the fisher to grasp the fishing rod for a long period of time. Where the exfoliative stresses are applied on the bonding surfaces between the reel mounting member and the grip members when the rod stem member is bent, the joint portion is greater in length than in the prior art, and hence the stresses are dispersed at that portion. In addition, because the wider bonding area is provided, the separation does not occur easily.
