Flame Sweeps Dished Incandescing Surface Patents (Class 431/348)
  • Patent number: 4125359
Abstract: A refractory burner block having a generally cup shaped depression is adapted for mounting in the furnace wall, with the depression facing the furnace interior. The block is provided with a bore that extends from the cup shaped depression to accommodate a burner nozzle. Resilient means connect the burner block with the cover plate so that both block and cover plate may independently contract and expand, minimizing stress loads on the cup, resulting in less cup cracking and failure.A joint is provided with a step between the furnace wall and the burner block, reducing the possibility of gaps opening up and forming a barrier to radiant heat and to convection flow.A central locating collar relieves the anchor bolts from undue stress in supporting the burner block. A resilient seal is used to seal the block against the central locating collar.Pilot means to light the main burner and plenum means to buffer the pilot from the main burner are provided to reduce pilot "blowout.

  • Patent number: 4045160
Abstract: A fuel gas burner adapted for mounting in a heat treating furnace and for generating a relatively large expanse of radiant energy toward an object to be heated or heat treated. The burner has a housing with separate inlets for fuel gas and air and an air plenum with a forwardly facing throat. Surrounding the plenum throat is a combustion block formed of refractory material shaped to define a forwardly-facing frusto-conical heat radiating surface. A central fuel gas supply tube coaxial with the plenum throat has a nozzle element and a cooperating distributor mounted on its forward end to define with the plenum throat an annular air passage and a fuel gas chamber communicating with the supply tube. The nozzle element has radially extending circumferential vanes that define with the plenum throat, swirl producing slots adapted to receive air from the plenum chamber through the annular passage and fuel gas through ports communicating with the fuel gas chamber.

  • Patent number: 3940234
Abstract: A noiseless premix burner comprising a cylindrical housing which is attached to the outer covering of the furnace wall, and closed at its opposite end by a closure plate which supports a concentric burner tube which extends from the closure plate through an opening in the furnace wall to the interior of the furnace. A gas fuel line is inserted along the axis of the burner tube. Pressurized fuel gas flows through an orifice in the fuel line in an expanding flow. The proximal end of the burner tube has a venturi type throat construction. The annular space between the burner tube and the cylindrical housing comprises two plenums, one adjacent the outer wall of the furnace supplying secondary air, which passes into the furnace through a narrow annular gap between the burner tube and the furnace lining.
