The first and second contact modules house a plurality of contacts terminated to flexible etched circuits, or other conductors, which are routed out of the rear of the assembly. The first contact module is loaded into the housing proximate the mating end. The second contact module is loaded behind the first contact module within the housing. Both modules are then retained by a retention member inserted behind both modules. The mating end of the electrical connector assembly is configured to receive a printed circuit card edge.

  • Patent number: 5704814
Abstract: An electrical connector for coupling to an insulated electrical conductor includes an insulated housing having a threaded bore therein, which bore has a tapered portion therein. An electrical conductive prong has two end portions with one end portion attached to the housing and having a second end portion protruding axially into the housing bore for receiving the end of an insulated electrical conductor. A threaded compression collar is threadedly attached in the bore and has a bore extending axially therethrough for insertion of a wire therethrough and into the housing bore and onto the pointed prong extending thereinto. The threaded compression collar has a compressed portion compressible by threading the collar into the tapered portion of the bore whereby threading the collar onto the tapered portion of the bore clamps the collar onto the wire placed therein so that an insulated wire can be rapidly connected to an electrical connector without removing the insulation from the end of the wire.

  • Patent number: 5474459
Abstract: An inner plug core of a power plug is provided. The inner plug core includes a main body which is formed with an upper insert hole, a lower left insert hole and a lower right insert hole located substantially at three corners of a triangle defined thereby. A C-shaped tongue member is disposed under the upper insert hole and extends toward a front side of the inner plug core. The tongue member has a bottom transverse plate connected to the main body of the inner plug core by a reinforcing triangular support plate. The tongue member further has a top transverse plate on which an elliptic boss is disposed for receipt within a corresponding elliptic hole formed in a grounding terminal. The top transverse plate of the tongue member is cantilevered to serve as a force arm. Thus, only a light force is needed to press down the transverse plate of the tongue member, permitting the grounding terminal to be easily inserted into the upper insert hole.

  • Patent number: 5449302
Abstract: The present invention serves to prevent severe injury, loss of life or damage to expensive equipment by creating a system in which the conductors of a plug and the conductors of a receptacle can only be arranged, one with respect to the other, in a unique rotational manner depending upon the intended electrical rating of the plug and receptacle. The resulting plug will mate only with a receptacle having that same configuration. A separate indexer is disposed between the plug body and the conductor assembly to the conductors in the plug to prevent entry of the plug into a differently indexed receptacle. A polarizer in the receptacle fixes the conductor assembly of the receptacle in the same manner as the plug, to allow the plug and receptacle to be mated together when the receptacle is wired for the same electrical rating as the equipment to be energized by the plug.
