  • Patent number: 11881653
Abstract: A work machine powered electrically by a conductor rod includes a pneumatic control system for moving the conductor rod axially to contact power rails along a haul route. The conductor rod has a central passageway pneumatically coupling a head to a tip. A barrel extending from the head and an arm extending from the tip have concentric tubular conductors radially offset from each other and slidably mated together. Arrangements of pneumatic control valves provide pressurized air to selected cavities formed at ends or sides of the tubular conductors, causing axial forces that are balanced to effect retraction and extension of the arm within the barrel. In an open-loop mode, the pneumatic control system enables attachment of the arm to the power rails. In a closed-loop mode, mechanical feedback of relative position between the arm and power rails leads to axial adjustment pneumatically so that contact with electrical power is maintained despite lateral movements caused by steering or road conditions.

Abstract: An electronic assembly with a sliding power connector mounted on a first substrate. The connector has tracks and terminals with contact fingers. A bus bar may be aligned by the tracks such that contact surfaces on the contact fingers press against contact surfaces on the bus bar. The electronic system may be implemented as a rack, and the electronic assembly may be or include a printed circuit board on which the power connector terminals are mounted. The printed circuit board may slide in and out of the rack while power is supplied from the bus bar to components on the printed circuit board. High reliability may be provided by one or more tabs on the housing that increase mating force of the contact fingers and/or prevent damage to the contact fingers from overstress. The contact fingers may be positioned to increase the lifetime of the system.

  • Patent number: 11424572
Abstract: A hermetically-sealed edge-connect header that can withstand high temperatures, high pressures (or high vacuum levels), and high vibration environments, along with two corresponding connectors are disclosed. After brazing the edge-connect header components, the assembly is machined to form a slot with a portion of each of a plurality of electrical conductors removed in the machining process, resulting in a header with a high pin density. During the process of mating the first connector design to the edge-connect header, a plurality of wipers in the connector deflect, thereby causing the wipers to extend from the connector and contact the corresponding electrical conductors in the header. During the process of mating the second connector design to the edge-connect header, each of a plurality of wipers formed of low-mass, compliant metal wool, forms multiple contact points with a corresponding electrical conductor in the header.
