  • Patent number: 9957020
Abstract: The present invention is a Low-Drag Fin and Foil System for Surfboards (10), particularly including cambered fin foils (40; 42). The invention (10) also discloses low-drag, directionally unstable fin positions wherein the lesser of negative angle of attack of a trailing fin (50), versus the higher or positive angle of attack of a forward fin (48), makes the board (12) highly maneuverable by creating a yawing moment that aids the rotation of the board (12) as it is turned. The system particularly utilizes fins (40) having foil (42) shapes in which either the cambered side (74) or the non-cambered side (76) is provided with a combination of a convex curvature (68) and a concave curvature (70) to result in an oscillating curvature (72) which has a positive effect on control and acceleration.

  • Patent number: 9487276
Abstract: Disclosed is a bi-directional watercraft, such as a surfboard, fin systems therefore, and method of use. Example fin systems may allow a user of the watercraft to perform bi-directional maneuvers and stunts. The watercraft may be bi-directionally symmetric or asymmetric with fins mounted on its undersurface on both ends. When underway, the fins at the operating rear of the watercraft deploy for stabilization in cross-currents, while the fins at the operating front remain pivoted out of the way so that they do not “catch” water and destabilize the watercraft. When the watercraft reverses in direction, and the front and rear ends swap with one another, biasing mechanisms cause the fins now at the front to pivot away and hydrodynamic forces cause the fins now at the rear to deploy. In some cases, holders keep the fins from inadvertently deploying when they are not needed.

Abstract: A sports mat includes a foam sheet, an adhesive bonding film, a patterned layer and a skid proof layer. The foam sheet is made of polyethylene foam. The adhesive bonding film applied to a top surface of the foam sheet. The patterned layer has a plastic film and a pattern printed in a bottom surface of the plastic film. The plastic film together with the pattern is joined on top of the adhesive bonding film. The skid proof layer, made of thermal plastic rubber, is coated over a top surface of the plastic film. Additionally, the skid proof layer together with the patterned layer, the adhesive bonding film and the foam sheet defines a plurality of indentations and protrusions over a top surface of the skid proof layer so as to strengthen connection therebetween.

  • Patent number: 8998665
Abstract: The present invention features a body board system for giving a user a greater sense of maneuverability and control when using the body board. The system features a generally planar body board having a channel located in a body board top surface. The system features a first pivoting base located in a channel first end and a second pivoting base located in a channel second end. A handle assembly is pivotally located on the top surface and features a handle with a handle first end pivotally located on the first pivoting base and a handle second end pivotally located on the second pivoting base. For a first position, the handle is adapted to be pivoted from the channel and raised to an angle for use by a user and for a second position the handle is adapted to be pivoted into the channel.

  • Patent number: 8992277
Abstract: A stand up paddle surfboard (SUPS) and associated paddle is provided. The SUPS may have up to two containers affixed generally towards the bow. A first container is designed to retain refuse and a second container is designed to retain game ball(s). The paddle includes a removable handle on a first side of a shaft and a paddle with a securable net and hook on the second side of the shaft. The securable net and hook may be employed to remove refuse found in the water and place such in the first container. The removable handle may be replaced with a game net permitting a host of ball toss games and the like to be played, using the second container to retain such balls. The SUPS and associated paddle may be modified for watersports as well as environmental cleanup activities.

Abstract: A board including a contact section, and a first step section which is at a different height from the contact section so that it does not make contact with a substantially level water surface when the board is at rest on the top of the substantially level water surface. The board further including a first hydrofoil fixed to the first step section. The first hydrofoil includes a keel and the first hydrofoil is fixed the first step section so that the keel is substantially perpendicular to the board. The first hydrofoil includes a wing which is fixed to and substantially perpendicular to the keel of the first hydrofoil. The wing is angled relative to the first step section from zero degrees to ninety degrees. The board may include a second step section and a second hydrofoil, which may be fixed to the second step section.

  • Publication number: 20150033997
Abstract: This invention provides for a new design of recreational water boards that are significantly more stable than traditional boards in the class of standup paddle boards, windsurfing boards, and surf boards. Higher stability is achieved by shifting the primary buoyancy of the board to the “rail hulls” located on each side of the board deck creating a tunnel-hull effect. This provides a unique ability to make the board more stable for the average or beginner rider. This new design is intended to be a multipurpose platform allowing the rider to use as a standup paddle board, windsurf board, and surf board. In addition because the design is very stable it can be configured with a removable seat to allow the rider to paddle while seated. The increased stability provided by the tunnel hull effect also eliminates the need for a fixed rudder or fin to generate directional stability.

  • Patent number: 8944872
Abstract: The present invention relates to a lifted fin apparatus comprising one or more lifted fin elements with foiled tin components for a reduction of pressure and drag and an increase in surfboard lift as well as a method of achieving surfboard lift through, the use of said apparatus. Generally, the lifted fin apparatus comprises two or more lifted fin elements exhibiting a foil design on one or more of the fin surfaces. The individual fin elements may comprise a substantially vertical fin attached to a first edge of a base member and oriented at a substantially 90° angle in relation to the bottom surface of the surfboard or to the first edge of the base member. The fin elements may further comprise an angular fin mounted to a second edge of the base member at one end and the lower portion of the first, fin at the other end. In said embodiment, a bend or elbow is formed between a first fin component of angular fin and base member proximate the point of attachment at second edge of base member.
