  • Patent number: 10428244
Abstract: A cable wrapping tape, in particular for the engine compartment of an automobile, has a strip-like carrier (1) consisting of fabric, said carrier is provided at least on one side with a self-adhering adhesive layer (2) which consists of a pressure-sensitive adhesive, wherein the fabric of the carrier (1) consists of a yarn (3a, 3b) which is formed from a polyamide material and which has a yarn strength of at least 280 dtex. The yarn (3a, 3b) is formed from 24 to 80 filaments (4), and the cable wrapping tape meets abrasion class E according to LV 312 both on a mandrel having a 5 mm diameter and on a mandrel having a 10 mm diameter. For increasing the abrasion resistance, it is proposed that the filaments (4) are twisted with one another about a central longitudinal axis (X-X) of the yarn (3a, 3b).

  • Patent number: 9616257
Abstract: A lightweight, low bulk, mobile CB shelter fabric includes a high tensile strength woven scrim laminated between two thin CB-impenetrable polymer films. Laminate adhesives can include isocyanate adhesion promotors. Coatings can provide camouflage, increased light opacity, increased CB protection, sun, fire, and weather resistance. Lamination heat and pressure can cause the films to conform and bond through the scrim, while a pre-applied coating does not flow and remains uniform in thickness. The resulting fabric weight can be approximately 50% of conventional CB fabrics. The films can be hard-drawn polymers. A coating of hammer milled kaolin clay can provide increased light opacity. The films can be 1 micron thick, and can be nylon, aliphatic nylon, urethane, or poly-ether. The scrim can be a 1500 denier Vectran® (liquid crystal polymer) with a 4.5 ends-per-inch warp and a 3.5 ends-per-inch fill. The scrim yarns can be flattened bundles of untwisted fiber.

  • Patent number: 6864195
Abstract: A roofing membrane includes a substrate sheet formed of a thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) and a film layer of thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) adhered to at least one surface of the substrate sheet. The TPV preferably includes a copolymer of ethylene and a carbonyl containing monomer dynamically vulcanized in a polyolefin thermoplastic, preferably metallocene-catalyzed polyethylene. A scrim reinforcement layer is optionally embedded in the TPV layer. When installed on a roof substrate, the membrane can be sealed by heat welding the seams of the membrane sheets.

Abstract: A laminate for use as a headliner comprises a core having an adhesive layer provided adjacent opposing sides thereof. Basalt fiber structural reinforcement layers are provided adjacent each adhesive layer. A scrim layer is provided next to one reinforcement layer while a film barrier and covering are provided adjacent the other reinforcement layer. A method for manufacturing the laminate comprises the steps of providing a core, providing basalt fiber reinforcement layers adjacent opposing sides of the core, providing adhesive layers between opposing sides of the core and the reinforcement layers, applying a scrim layer to one reinforcement layer and a film barrier and covering to the other reinforcement layer to complete the laminate. According to a method for recycling a laminate, laminate material formed of composite materials including reinforcement fibers that have a melting point above the incineration point of the other composite materials is provided.

A thermoplastic binder may adhere the fibers to one another. A method for manufacturing a laminate comprising a the structural reinforcement layer comprises the steps of providing a core, providing a first reinforcement layer containing carbon fibers adjacent one of opposing sides of the core, providing adhesive layers on each of the opposing sides of the core, applying a barrier film and covering to the first reinforcement layer to the first reinforcement layer. Applying a scrim mat comprising a reinforcement layer, a barrier film and a scrim layer to the other of the opposing sides of the core to complete the laminate. According to a method for recycling a laminate, laminate material formed of composite materials including carbon fibers that have a melting and/or degradation point above the incineration point of the other composite materials is provided.

  • Publication number: 20040235377
Abstract: A laminate for use as a headliner for an automobile comprises a core that is a mixture of basalt fibers and polypropylene binder. A scrim layer is provided adjacent a first side of the core. An adhesive layer and a covering are provided adjacent a second side of the core. The laminate can be manufactured by heating the core, providing a scrim layer adjacent the first side of the core and providing an adhesive layer and a covering adjacent the second side of the core to complete the laminate. A method for recycling a laminate comprises the steps of providing a laminate material formed of composite materials including reinforcement fibers that have a higher melting point than the incineration point of the other composite materials and heating the laminate to a temperature below the melting point of the basalt and above the incineration point of the other composite materials to reduce the other composite materials to ash without melting the basalt.

Abstract: A composite sheet biasable into a tubular shape to form a sleeve for isolating or protecting elongated items is disclosed. The sheet has a reflective surface formed by a metal foil layer overlying a flexible polymer layer having a metalized surface. A biasable polymer netting layer is positioned overlying the flexible layer opposite the metalized surface. The netting layer is formed of elongated members that define interstices. A damping layer of non-woven material is positioned adjacent to the netting layer. An adhesive layer is positioned between the flexible layer and the netting layer to bond the netting layer and the damping layer to the flexible layer. Biasing is effected by the elongated members of the netting layer which are stiffer in the circumferential direction around the sleeve to provide radial stiffness.
