Multiple PAN receiver antennae are mounted on a keyboard, such that if a person with a PAN transmitter rests her arms on or near the keyboard, sufficient signal from the transmitter is sensed by one or more of the receiver antennae even though some of the signal is shunted away from the receivers through the arms. Also, a driven shield insulates a PAN receiver from nearby metal objects, e.g., a desk on which the PAN receiver is supported. Moreover, a multiple-electrode PAN transmitter reduces the deleterious effects on the signal from the PAN transmitter that can otherwise be caused by, e.g., loose metal coins that are present in a pocket in which the transmitter is carried.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 1999Date of Patent: April 1, 2003Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Thomas Guthrie Zimmerman, Richard Clement Allen, David Jun Lu, Florian Vogt

Publication number: 20020196953Abstract: The Swimmer's Ear is an electronic device that allows a swimmer or bather a means to safely listen to music while engaged in water activities. This invention is unique in that it allows universal use of any existing electronic devices equipped with a headphone jack. The two part Swimmer's Ear will attach itself via a headphone jack to an existing electronic device such as a CD or MP3 player and transmit to the listener the music or sound. The receiver will be powered by a power source inside a waterproof housing. This receiver will allow the listener to attach it to one's head by means of a clip for any swimming goggles or headband The materials used for this invention are currently in use such as: durable plastics, radio frequency transmitter and receiver, waterproof housings.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 28, 2002Publication date: December 26, 2002Inventor: Andrew John Burke

Publication number: 20020132594Abstract: The present invention, in certain embodiments, discloses a method for acquiring marine seismic data using a seismic acquisition system where shot points are determined and shot records recorded. A time at which the source vessel will be substantially at a shot point position is predicted and the seismic source is activated at the shot point. The shot is recorded and the next location for recording a shot is determined. If the source vessel has passed the determined next shot point position, the seismic source is activated and a shot is recorded. If the source vessel has not reached the next shot point, a time delay is implemented until the shot point is reached. The method allows for efficient acquisition of seismic data under varying field conditions by resembling a distance based shot point determination method unless a time based acquisition method becomes more appropriate due to field conditions or other operational considerations.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 13, 2001Publication date: September 19, 2002Inventor: Jan Douma
