  • Patent number: 7990901
Abstract: A method performed by a mobile communication unit (10) when operating in stand-by mode in a wireless cellular communication network. The receiver is activated in periods of relatively short duration (?0) to receive paging indicators (21) from the serving base station (20) and to receive identifying signals from the remote base station (30). After the first period a likelihood is assessed that a remote cell has been detected, and following the first period the receiver is activated in a second period of a duration (?1) depending an the assessed likelihood. If a remote cell has likely been detected, the second duration is longer than the first duration. Most of its stand-by time the mobile terminal will not detect a new cell, and most of the periods with the receiver activated will therefore be of the short first duration, the Power consumption of the receiver will be correspondingly reduced, and the stand-by time is correspondingly increased.

  • Patent number: 7903596
Abstract: A wireless mesh network routes messages between a host computer and a plurality of field devices. The mesh network is synchronized to a global regular active schedule that defines active periods when messages can be transmitted or received by nodes of the network, and inactive periods when messages cannot be transmitted or received. Based upon messages to be sent by the host computer to selected field devices, the network is controlled to selectively maintain active those nodes required to route messages to the selected field devices. Those required nodes are maintained in an active state as long as communication with the selected field devices continues, while other nodes are allowed to return to a low power inactive state. When communication between the host computer and the selected field devices is no longer required, the entire network is allowed to enter the low power inactive state.

  • Patent number: 7899418
Abstract: A mobile device is equipped with a transmitting function to transmit data. When a power switch is turned off during data transmission, a transition is made to a transmission-during-power-off mode that continues data transmission. The transition to the transmission-during-power-off mode is performed when an inquiry is made on a screen as to whether transmission will be performed and “continue” is subsequently selected. In this mode, even when the mobile device with the power switch being turned off is carried around, data transmission is continued and data is recorded into a storage section of a home personal computer.

  • Patent number: 7894841
Abstract: A system and method for reducing call establishment delay in wireless network is provided, in which a network node establishes a call to a wireless terminal controlled by an AP via a sever. The wireless terminal notifies the server of its listen interval. In the power saving mode, the wireless terminal wakes up every listen interval and listen the beacon to check whether any buffered packet for it. When the wireless terminal learns from the beacon that there are packets waiting, it communicates with the access point to retrieve them. The server records a listen time at which the wireless terminal will wake tip and listen to the AP based on the listen interval. When a network node calls the wireless terminal, the server buffers the request for a time interval based on the listen time, and then sends the request to the wireless terminal.

  • Patent number: RE42604
Abstract: A multimode transceiver circuit comprises a four port coupler of a type which splits a signal applied to one port between two of the other ports. The split signals are phase shifted by a known amount. A first port of the coupler is for receiving a signal and for outputting a signal therefrom. A controllable oscillator is connected to a second port of the coupler and switchable impedances (Schottky diodes) are connected to the remaining ports. A controller is provided for controlling the operation of the oscillator and the impedances to determine the mode of operation of the circuit. In one mode of operation, the oscillator is inoperative and at least one of the impedances is switched to operate as a non-linear impedance such that the circuit detects amplitude modulation of the signal applied to the first port.
