  • Patent number: 8159977
Abstract: A power management method that divorces multicast frames for power save stations from DTIM beacons. An access point associates power save stations with a multicast group. Each station has an associated power save interval, the station being in a power save state during the interval, otherwise in an active state. The access point maintains a timer for each station in order to determine whether the station is in an active or power save state. The timer can be reset whenever the station sends an inbound frame. When the access point receives a multicast frame for the group, it buffers the frame until the timer for each member of the group expires, thereby ensuring each member of the group is in an active state, and broadcasts the multicast frame.

Abstract: A novel and useful mechanism for regulating and managing the peak current consumption of the subsystems in a mobile handset device. The mechanism of the present invention is operative to limit the current consumption at any point in time to a predetermined level that is within the current handling capability of the power management system of the handheld device. The mechanism operates by having the high peak current subsystems advertise in advance their intention to initiate a current peak. An arbitration mechanism considers the advertisements or requests sent from interested subsystems and determines whether a subsystem is either granted permission to initiate or is blocked from initiating a peak current session.

  • Patent number: 7957775
Abstract: A low battery notification service is provided to a user of a wireless device capable of monitoring the voltage level of its internal battery and sending a low battery warning message. The messages are received at a service provider that maintains subscriber profiles associated with a subscriber's wireless device. When a low battery warning message is received, a wireless device identifier in the warning message is used to access a notification list included in a stored subscriber profile. Notification list entries are selected based on their assigned priorities and the existence or absence of conditions of use, permitting low battery notifications to be sent to target systems on the notification list until an acceptable response is received or the notification list is exhausted.

  • Patent number: 7953385
Abstract: A method and system to determine when a wireless terminal has been paged by a servicing base station. An encoded paging burst is received on a paging channel and then decoded to produce a decoded paging burst. The decoded paging burst is processed to determine if it is a null page. When the encoded paging burst is a null page, subsequent processing operations scheduled to follow a later null page are rescheduled and immediately processed, allowing the wireless terminal to re-enter the sleep mode more quickly following the receipt of a subsequent paging burst.

Abstract: A communication device has a first transceiver that operates in a first communication system in the presence of a second transceiver that operates in a second communication system that is unrelated to the first communication system. A scheduler of packets for transmission by the first transceiver uses information about when the second communication system will be transmitting a signal that will interfere with reception by the first transceiver, and schedules data for which re-transmission is not essential in those time slots in which an implicit NACK is expected due to the second transceiver's operation.

  • Patent number: 7944868
Abstract: A method and system for improving spatial reuse in a wireless local area network (WLAN) by per-client dynamic power management. Each access point of the WLAN associates each of its clients with a minimum power level. A central controller of the WLAN generates a schedule for transmission at different power levels, and each access point varies its transmission power level based on the schedule. An access point transmits data packets, at the scheduled transmission power level, to clients associated with a minimum power level that is less than the scheduled power level.

  • Patent number: 7903596
Abstract: A wireless mesh network routes messages between a host computer and a plurality of field devices. The mesh network is synchronized to a global regular active schedule that defines active periods when messages can be transmitted or received by nodes of the network, and inactive periods when messages cannot be transmitted or received. Based upon messages to be sent by the host computer to selected field devices, the network is controlled to selectively maintain active those nodes required to route messages to the selected field devices. Those required nodes are maintained in an active state as long as communication with the selected field devices continues, while other nodes are allowed to return to a low power inactive state. When communication between the host computer and the selected field devices is no longer required, the entire network is allowed to enter the low power inactive state.
