Abstract: A revenue management system for telecommunication systems is disclosed. The revenue management system can have multiple integrated modules. The modules can include a revenue generation module, a revenue capture module, a revenue collection module, a revenue intelligence module, and others. The revenue management system can also be configured to simultaneously manage revenue for prepaid, postpaid, now-paid payment models.

Abstract: Subject matter described herein is directed to detecting fraud in a telecommunications environment. Communication records of a mobile device include attributes that describe communication instances of the device. For example, communication records might include a start time or end time of voice calls initiated by a mobile device. The attributes are analyzed, such as by calculating call-gap durations, to determine if any thresholds are violated. Threshold violations suggest fraudulent use and prompt an unauthorized-use response.

Abstract: A wireless access network system comprises a RADIUS (Remote Access Dial-In User System) arrangement with an associated RADIUS accounting function. The RADIUS arrangement is arranged to track access activity by a user accessing the network via wireless user equipment and via the RADIUS arrangement. The access activity is recorded in an accounting database which is associated with the RADIUS accounting function. The wireless access system also comprises a radio network controller which comprises a RADIUS client. The RADIUS arrangement is arranged to receive information from a radio network controller of the system in order to track the access activity. The Invention is applicable to cellular communication systems such as UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication System).

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and an apparatus for providing an alternative telephony service which automatically switches an originating call between a basic telephony network and an alternative telephony network, and a method of inducing a caller or a receiver to subscribe to a service having a cheaper call rate by notifying the caller or the receiver of an inverse call charge which can be reduced according to whether telephony communication is performed using a basic telephony or an alternative telephony. Accordingly, it is possible to automatically connect the telephony communication using the basic telephony or the alternative telephony according to a telephony communication condition of the receiver, and thus reduce inconvenience due to a direct control of the receiver and first select a telephony communication scheme having a cheap call rate.

The current balance may be calculated by the phone after a transaction, or the phone may receive a debit balance via a short message service notification.

The system also configures a first setting to a first index wherein the first setting is based on the first rating and wherein the first setting is associated with the device receiving access to services without further contact with the rating engine. The system also receives a second message from the rating engine, the second message providing a second rating of the account. The system also configures a second setting to the first index based on the second rating wherein the second setting replaces the first setting and the second setting is associated with contacting the rating engine before receiving access to services.

Abstract: To provide an authentication system allowing stable determination as to whether a user is a registered user while saving user's trouble, an information processing device capable of data communication with a plurality of image forming apparatuses extracts an image forming apparatus connected to an IC card reader from the plurality of image forming apparatuses, based on reply signals transmitted from the plurality of image forming apparatuses, and transmits user account information of registered users to the extracted image forming apparatus. The image forming apparatus connectable to the IC card reader performs, if it is determined that the IC card reader is connected to the image forming apparatus, the authentication process based on the user account information of registered users received from the information processing device and on the information read by the IC card reader.

Abstract: Mobile communication devices, such as mobile phones, may be capable of recommending to a user various providers of one or more solicited services, e.g., by identifying a user location and identifying providers near the user location that provide the services, and by initiating a call between the user and a selected provider. However, the equipment and service costs of such devices may be prohibitive, particularly for mid-range mobile communication devices that may appeal to cost-conscious users. The prohibitive costs may be diminished by redirecting part or all of the cost of providing the recommendation service from the providers, e.g., by charging the provider a service cost upon initiating a call from the user to the provider, or upon representing the provider in a provider database. In one such embodiment, all service costs may be borne by providers, providing to the user a free recommendation service via the mobile communication device.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide a user with the ability to select from a list of available services that can be used on a mobile device. The services include device-based services and device-network based services. The activation, usage tracking and deactivation of a selected service can be conducted at a central location. Some of the services can be provided by different carrier network providers and in different geographical areas. The service selection can be performed from the mobile device, thus providing the user with maximum flexibility as to when and where the user requests the service.

A payback amount is determined by the product of the number of unused service units remaining and the payback rate amount. A total payback amount can be determined based on a combination of payback amounts for various services, including voice services, texting services, email services, and/or data storage services.

Abstract: A system and method for allocating system resources through a rule based account hierarchy is provided. An Account Manager attempts to apply a system charge to an account. In applying the charge to the account, the Account Manager examines balance selection rules associated with the account. If, after examining the balance selection rules the Account Manager determines that the balance selection rules are satisfied, then the Account Manager attempts to charge the account. If the balance is owned by a parent account, then the charge is routed to that parent account. If the balance is not owned by a parent account, then the balance is charged. If, after examining all the balance selection rules of an account the Account Manager cannot find a balance to charge, then the communication session is disallowed.

Abstract: An embodiment of a method includes selecting call detail report (CDR) call setup attributes from captured CDR data, refining the CDR data, and summing CDR amount attribute values for each set of CDR call entries having common values for the selected CDR call setup attributes. Each set of one or more CDR call entries having common values for the CDR call setup attributes are combined into a single refined CDR call entry having the common CDR call setup attribute values and the summed CDR amount attribute values. The summing process is repeated for each set of CDR data associated with each of a plurality of network elements. After summing the CDR attribute amount values for call entries having common CDR setup call attribute values for each switch, CDR attribute amount values associated with common CDR setup attribute values in call entries associated with all switches are summed to generate a final set of refined CDR data.

Abstract: An apparatus for controlling Quality of Service (QoS) of a master Bluetooth® terminal in a piconet. A file-specific band setting unit sets information about files and information about bandwidths set for the files, which are stored in the master Bluetooth® terminal, for a content meta database. A QoS controller checks the content meta database when an arbitrary slave Bluetooth® terminal requests file download service, and provides the set bandwidth information of the corresponding file. A balancing Bluetooth® Network Encapsulation Protocol (BNEP) creates a virtual interface when the slave Bluetooth® terminal is accessed, and sets a bandwidth of the virtual interface, which is set for the slave Bluetooth® terminal requesting the download service, to a bandwidth of the corresponding file when the set bandwidth information of the file for which the download service is requested is received from the QoS controller, and provides the download service to the slave Bluetooth® terminal.

The method includes: obtaining a short message that carries VAS subscription information; resolving the VAS to be triggered according to the short message that carries the VAS subscription information, and generating a charging message; and sending the charging message to an intelligent network for charging. The system includes: an SMSC, a data center for SMS, and an intelligent network. The data center for SMS includes: a short message receiving module, a charging message generating module, and a charging message sending module. Through the technical solution under the present invention, the PPS user is refunded for the services triggered unsuccessfully, and the service process is simplified.

Abstract: The art of present discloses a method and system for enabling mobile network operators to collect charging information from various other network elements; and indeed, is intended to exploit the resiliency of open network architecture and lessen the requisite dependency on proprietary network elements services and billing systems. The Open Charging (OC) middleware platform and gateway system interacts with proprietary network elements and effectually creates a unifying, enabling layer in mobile networks. Indeed, the art is directed at permitting mobile subscriber access to, among others, third party content and services with the simplicity and convenience of such charges appearing on either mobile phone bill, or decremented from said mobile subscriber's pre-paid account.

Abstract: A system for analyzing call detail records to derive demographic data is provided. The system comprises a processor, a memory, and an application stored in the memory. When executed by the processor, the application analyzes call detail records associated with a base transceiver station to determine statistical information about the subscriber calls within the coverage area and to estimate demographics of people within the coverage area.

Abstract: A system and method for generating revenue from a premium service that involves sending classified interactive advertisement information over current and future generation wireless networks to a portable electronic device request by a user/potential buyer that is paid for by the user. The classified advertisement information is sent as a message that is either comprised solely of text or of multimedia files. The service is offered as a premium service, which incurs a user-end charge that creates an alternate source of revenue for major wireless service providers and for the marketers, distributors and publishers of classified advertising. The service is either offered through an on-demand format wherein a charge is incurred per usage, or as a subscription service, wherein a charge is incurred after a specific amount of usage time or a given number of usages, or wherein the user subscribes to periodic alerts until such a time as the user opts-out.

Abstract: Time record entries are automatically constructed using software modules and methods for presentation in response to telephone calls, whether made or received. Telephone call information is included in a memory and heuristics are applied to telephone call information to identify a billing reference for inclusion in the time record. The timekeeper has discretion whether to approve any proposed entries. Software tools are also disclosed to present and manage the automatically constructed time-record entries. The invention eliminates reliance upon the timekeeper to capture such activities as billable events in the first instance, and thereby can increase revenue opportunities.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer program products use combinations of international mobile equipment identity (IMEI), international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI), and account information to determine if a customer is eligible for service credit in near real-time. The customer needs an active account prior to inserting a subscriber identity module (SIM) into a device and powering on the device for the system to determine credit eligibility. No further customer action is required. The credit application process determines credit eligibility based upon device credit eligibility, account tenure, and/or credit rules, and applies the credit to the customer's account. The customer may be proactively notified when the credit is applied. The credit and tenure rules may be changed as the industry and business needs change to remain competitive in the industry. The SIM used is configured with software to lock the SIM to the device upon first power-on.

Abstract: In one aspect, the teachings herein provide a method and apparatus for identifying the new network affiliation of a churned subscriber that has moved from an old network operator to a new network operator. Knowing the new network affiliation of a former subscriber provides a number of significant advantages to the old network operator. By way of non-limiting example, the old network operator can undertake new or adjusted advertising targeted at retaining remaining subscribers of like demographics. Additionally or alternatively, the old network operator can review pricing and service plans from the new network operator that are comparable to that used by the former subscriber, and make competitive pricing or service adjustments.

The core network may transmit an alert message to the communication terminal to trigger an alert therefrom in response to the cumulative utilization of resources exceeding a threshold value.

Abstract: In general, a system and method for analyzing wireless communication records and for determining optimal wireless communication service plans is disclosed. A transceiver is configured to receive billing information associated with a subscriber of a telecommunications service under a current rate plan. A storage unit stores the billing information. A processor processes the subscriber related billing information to produce organized data having a predefined format. The processor then analyzes the processed data in relation to a plurality of rate plans of a plurality of telecommunications service providers, and determines at least one proposed rate plan that would save the subscriber telecommunication costs relative to the current rate plan. A report of at least one proposed rate plan is then produced and provided to the subscriber, which enables selection of a best telecommunication service provider.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to mitigate a Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack in a voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) network are disclosed. An example method comprises receiving a communication session initiation message from a communication session endpoint, determining whether the communication session endpoint is associated with a probable DoS attack, and sending to the communication session endpoint a communication session initiation response message comprising a DoS header when the communication session endpoint is associated with the probable DoS attack.

Abstract: A mobile-to-mobile payment method and system are presented. One or more payor messages are received at a payment server from a mobile device associated with a payor. The one or more payor messages include an identifier of a payee and an amount. The identifier of the payee is associated with a payee account, and the mobile device is associated with a payer account. The payment server executes a transfer of funds of the amount from the payor account to the payee account.

Abstract: Various exemplary embodiments relate to a subscriber profile repository (SPR) for determining a subscriber associated with a set of subscription identifiers. The subscriber profile repository may include: an interface which receives a subscriber profile request including at least one subscription identifier; a subscriber record database that includes a set of subscription identifiers; a subscriber record cache that contains a subset of the records contained in the subscriber record database; and a search manager that queries the subscriber record cache using each subscription identifier and queries the subscriber record database when the subscriber record cache does not contain a record matching a subscription identifier. The SPR may also include a results manager that compares subscriber records and updates the cache when a result is found in the subscriber records database. Abstract: Embodiments are directed to managing a prepaid server-arbitrated group communication session within a wireless communications system. A server receives, from a session originator, a request to setup a prepaid group communication session with at least one session target, the prepaid group communication session requiring each session participant to have an available prepaid account balance above a threshold level. The server sends a query to an online charging system to determine whether at least the session originator has a prepaid account with an available balance at least equal to the threshold level. The server initiates setup of the requested prepaid group communication session without waiting to receive a response to the query, thereby reducing latency associated with set-up of the prepaid group communication session.

Abstract: A no-charge transaction service method and apparatus for prepaid cellular telephones is provided which utilizes a prepaid cellular telephone in conjunction with a wireless intelligent network coupled to a prepaid cellular service provider. The user enters a short code to indicate a top-up request or other transaction request along with payment information into the prepaid cellular telephone using the alphanumeric keypad. The call data is transmitted to the wireless network which identifies the call and transfers the information to the prepaid cellular service provider. The prepaid cellular service provider identifies the transaction type, validates the call data and sends a verification message to the prepaid cellular telephone and other associated equipment, if any, via short message service, push to talk service, or other means without completing the originating call.

Abstract: Various embodiments relate to a system and related method for charging an actual subscriber using a single subscriber profile. A Policy and Charging Rules Node (PCRN) may receive a message including a service request and may refer to a subscriber profile to add at least one subscriber identifier (ID) to the message. An Online Charging System (OCS) may thereafter receive a translated message originating from the PCRN and use the at least one subscriber ID included in the translated message to find charging information for the actual subscriber. The OCS may include the charging information in a charged message. A device providing service may then use the charged information to charge the actual subscriber for the requested service.

Abstract: A rollover management system (RMS) receives and stores rollover data that includes subscriber identification and a balance of the rollover usage units that may be “rolled-over” to offset overage units used by a subscriber in excess of package plan usage units in a subsequent billing cycle. In response to receiving requests, the RMS presents rollover data elements to the requesting entities. The balance of the rollover usage units may be rolled over and measured in at least one of a plurality of billable units and may be shared by the subscriber's multiple communication services. The rollover usage units expire after a predetermined number of billing cycles where the predetermined number may vary between package plans. The RMS receives post-billing data elements to update the rollover data elements. The RMS is further operative to account for and present for review unbilled communication service usage to subscribers.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to a charging method and system for a Push-to-talk over Cellular (PoC) system. The charging method for a PoC system includes: after sending an initial online charging request to an Online Charging System (OCS), receiving an initial online charging response message that is sent by the OCS and carries a downlink channel type switching trigger variable; monitoring a type of a downlink channel used by a PoC service according to the downlink channel type switching trigger variable; and sending an online charging request to the OCS if switching of the type of the downlink channel used by the PoC service is detected, where the online charging request includes a switched type of the downlink channel. The embodiments of the present invention implement precise and proper charging for a PoC client when the PoC client switches a channel.

Abstract: The invention of present provides for a real-time authentication and billing gateway for WLAN traffic. Notably, the improved method for implementing a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) gateway system enables telecommunications network operators (and like entities) to rate and bill for services accessed by the wireless user. The logic of the invention supports and furthers the art in regards to advanced real-time rating/billing in addition to providing for a variety of replenishment mechanisms for casual users via pre-paid vouchers and credit cards.

The method includes receiving AoC information sent by a service charging server, and then displaying the AoC information. The mobile terminal includes a receiving module adapted to receive AoC information sent by a service charging server, and a display module adapted to display the received AoC information. The system includes a terminal, a service charging server, a service gateway, and a charging engine. The present invention is applicable to pre-consumption prompt, post-consumption notification, and prompts for data services such as browsing, streaming media, and mail.

A service component provides service options to a handset's user interface, receives a service option selection, and provides a first text message to a server based on the selection. The service component may provide interactive voice response system service options to the user interface if an entered number is associated with a specified service. The service component may provide and receive text messages as short message service messages via a handset wireless paging channel. The service component may provide short message service messages to the user interface via an interactive voice response system message. The second text message may include a prompt for a request to occasionally receive the second text message.

The system further comprises a charging server (111) which includes a topic controller (305) for initializing charging topics where each charging topic is associable with charging data. The charging server (111) furthermore comprises functionality for registering proxies as subscribing proxies or publishing proxies (or both) for the different charging topics. A receiver (301, 311) receives charging data messages from charging proxies and validates a first set of charging data belonging to a first charging topic in response to a first set of charging proxies registered as publishing proxies for the first charging topic. A charging data transmitter (313) transmits the first set of charging data to a second set of charging proxies registered as subscribing proxies for the first charging topic.

Abstract: Revenue leakage is one of the major concerns of telecom operators worldwide. There are several reasons for revenue leakage including frauds, data loss, poor utilization of network infrastructure, and churn. With the growth in subscriber base and increased competition in the market space, the lack of control on revenue leak could potentially affect the profit margins drastically. The operators are ever looking for solutions that could limit the various aspects of the revenue leakage. A system and method for addressing revenue leakage due to data loss in general and incomplete/partial data in particular needs to handle the issues related to the obtaining of additional information so that incomplete/partial data records lead to additional billing opportunity for the operators.

Abstract: Providing automated customer care for a mobile phone is described herein. By way of example, a system can include component(s) that can automatically detect and transmit an error in interfacing a mobile phone with a communication network. The system also can include a customer care component(s) that can receive the error, initiate an error resolution process, and automatically provide a plurality of options with which to contact customer care and/or utilize customer care resources.
