  • Patent number: 7274782
Abstract: A system for (and a method of) selectively establishing communication with one of plural devices associated with a single telephone number is provided. In a preferred embodiment, the system includes a wireless connect unit connected between an enterprise private branch exchange (PBX) network and a public switched telephone network. The wireless connect unit preferably serves as a gateway between the PBX and one or more remote communication devices. The remote devices can be used as standard PBX office telephones for both inbound and outbound telephone calls. Thus, features of the PBX network (e.g., voice mail, direct extension dialing, corporate calling plan, etc.) are available to the remote device even though they are not physically connected to the PBX. When the system receives an incoming call, it can route the call to an office telephone and one or more of the remote devices simultaneously or as desired by the user.

  • Patent number: 7266373
Abstract: System and method for the registration of a mobile part (MT, OA, HA) in a base station (BS) in a telecommunication system designed for wireless communication between a mobile part (MT, OA, HA) and a base station (BS. The base station and the mobile part are initially placed in an access standby state. Subsequently, a verification procedure determines a message exchange (MA) between the mobile part and the base station if the base station supports a voice-controlled registration and if the mobile part is theoretically connected to the base station. If the theoretical connection is determined, a user channel connection suitable for the transmission of voice data is established between the mobile part and the base station. The mobile part is then either registered in the base station, or the registration attempt is rejected.

  • Patent number: 7254408
Abstract: In an apparatus and a method for processing a calling tone of a wire/wireless telephone, if an RF signal corresponding to a ring receiving generation control signal is transmitted to a portable device from a fixed device after a ring signal is received in the fixed device of the wire/wireless telephone, the portable device measures the distance between the fixed device and the portable device according to electric field strength of the RF signal transmitted by the fixed device. If the measured distance is less than a preset reference distance, the portable device disables generation of the calling tone and the calling tone is generated in the fixed device only. Thus, when the fixed device is near the portable device, only the fixed device processes the calling tone for receiving a ring signal, and the problem of user inconvenience caused by lack of harmony between melody chords generated in the fixed device and the portable device is solved.

Abstract: A method and system of automating two-way beaming of information from one handheld electronic device to another handheld electronic device. Specifically, the present invention discloses a method and system for selectively transmitting business cards, calendar appointments or executable programs from one device to a requesting device. The receiver makes the selection of a response. The receiver accepts the information, accepts and automatically transmits information of the same category, or rejects the information based on a user choice. If the user select the receive and transmit option, the device will automatically receives and file the information and sends information of the same category to the initiator of the transmission. The two-way transmission of information appears as one integral transmission between the users. In one embodiment, the data to be exchanged is business cards and the devices are handheld computer system.

  • Patent number: 7181217
Abstract: A mobile services control platform supports enhanced services for SMS or MMS message forwarding. The service allows a subscriber to receive SMS (Short Message Service) directed to his or her mobile number across a range of devices, depending on the context, the device, and the network the user is connected from. In a representative example, when the user connects over a Wi-Fi network, e.g., using his or her laptop or other such device, he or she selects “Wi-Fi SMS” option from a client. As a result, future SMS sent to the user's mobile number get routed to his or her laptop over Wi-Fi—without the sender being aware that the user has connected over a different network. Similarly, SMS messages sent by the user from his or her laptop Wi-Fi client (e.g., through a softphone) are delivered to the recipient's mobile device as if they originated from the mobile phone. When Wi-Fi SMS is activated, preferably voice calls continue to be received over the mobile phone, with only SMS forwarded to Wi-Fi.

  • Patent number: 7155226
Abstract: A method for serving multiple mobile stations under a common mobile identification number (MIN). A service provider assigns the common MIN to multiple mobile stations and maintains a subscriber profile that associates the MIN with the electronic serial numbers (ESNs) of the mobile stations. However, the service provider allows the MIN to be associated with at most one mobile station that is arranged to respond to a MIN-based termination message. As a result, when the service provider seeks to terminate a call through signaling keyed to the MIN, only one of the mobile stations will respond (e.g., begin to ring). At the same time, all of the mobile stations having the common MIN can originate calls through signaling keyed to their MIN and ESN (since the MIN/ESN pair should uniquely identify the originating station).

Abstract: In a digital cordless telephone system, a different speech coding scheme is used in the audio path from the base unit to its remote handset than that which is used in the audio path in the opposite direction from the remote handset to the base unit. It is found that this unbalanced coding scheme optimizes overall system cost and performance. In particular, two different types, quality and/or bit rates of speech encoders are implemented in opposite directions of the same full-duplex audio path, providing an unbalanced coding in a digital cordless telephone. Implementation of different types of speech encoders in a common full duplex path optimizes system cost and performance. It is recognized by the invention that the communications link in a first direction from a base unit to its remote handset in a digital cordless telephone system potentially requires better codec and audio performance than the communications link in the opposite direction from the remote handset to base unit.
