A determination unit determines a reception modulation method for a received data signal according to the state of the transmission line. A transmission circuit generates a first pilot signal indicating the reception modulation method determined by the determination unit and, after adding an error correction code, modulates and transmits the first pilot signal. According to the invention, there is provided a method for allowing abstract wireless links, i.e., arbitrary cooperation among a set of proximate wireless nodes, to be established between devices in a fast and efficient manner. Beneficially the approach allows multi-standard cognitive radios to operate in ad-hoc environments and non-ad-hoc environments. Abstract: The present invention relates to receiving access signals from a plurality of terminals over a radio channel and in particular to determining a detection threshold level on the radio channel. A detection threshold level should balance the risk of missed detections to the risk of false detections. A problem in finding an equilibrium threshold is the radio environment, with noise and interference, change and then also the radio false detections or missed detections change. According to the present invention some access signals can be identified as being not assigned and therefore not being in use, and any detection of a non-used signal is identified as a false detection. By monitoring the ratio of false detections vs. correct detections the threshold level for detection is tuned into an equilibrium level, and that is adapted to the changing radio environments.

Abstract: A distributed, multi-stage, intelligent system is configured to determine user action performance characteristics parameters in action sports. Raggedness, complexity, and cost are unevenly distributed among components across the stages for improved overall performance and reduced cost. The system includes stage-one, wearable devices configured to use sensors to collect initial data and transfer the initial data to stage-two devices which may temporally store the initial data and/or perform further data processing to generate intermediate data for communication to one or more stage-three devices configured for long term data storage, further processing and presentation.

  • Patent number: 8711964
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for pre-scheduling in a closed-loop multiple user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) antenna system. A base station receives channel information representing a downlink channel condition of each mobile station from mobile stations in a cell, and determines a candidate user group for each of frequency bands included in an entire frequency band, based on the channel information, the candidate user group including mobile stations to which resources can be simultaneously allocated. The base station also instructs a mobile station included in each candidate user group to transmit a sounding signal through a corresponding frequency band. If the sounding signal is received through the corresponding frequency band, the base station performs a scheduling with regard to the mobile station included in each candidate user group.

Abstract: A communication device is provided with: a transmission power control section that controls the transmission power of a signal, and a transmission state detection section that detects the transmission state of the signal, and transmits the signal wirelessly to a communication partner. The transmission power control section controls the transmission power in accordance with the transmission state that is detected by the transmission state detection section. In this way, optimisation of the transmission power can be implemented with high accuracy.

  • Patent number: 8699528
Abstract: A method for communication includes receiving in a receiver signals, which include one or more dedicated reference signals, that are transmitted from a transmitter over a communication channel in multiple blocks. The signals in each block, including the dedicated reference signals, are transmitted on a respective group of subcarriers over a respective time interval and are precoded using a respective precoding scheme that maps the signals onto multiple antenna ports of the transmitter. Based on the received signals, feedback is computed in the receiver with respect to the communication channel in each of multiple spectral sub-bands, and the feedback for the multiple spectral sub-bands is reported to the transmitter. One or more parameters of the communication channel are estimated jointly over the dedicated reference signals included in each of the spectral sub-bands for which the feedback is reported. The signals are decoded based on the estimated parameters.
