  • Patent number: 9716561
Abstract: A communication device has a transmission/reception unit and a communication processing unit. The transmission/reception unit is configured to conform to a plurality of communication methods. The communication processing unit selects one of the plurality of communication methods with respect to each time slot based on device time in accordance with a predetermined selection rule, to perform communication via the transmission/reception unit by the selected communication method. In time synchronization master processing, a first communication device gives device time of the device itself as a time stamp to a time synchronization request signal and transmits the time synchronization request signal. In time synchronization slave processing, a second communication device receives the time synchronization request signal and calibrates the device time of the device itself based on the time stamp in the time synchronization request signal.

  • Patent number: 9706049
Abstract: Individuals often place calls on behalf of a group or collection of individuals. As provided herein, a caller may access or establish a group number to be presented to a callee. The callee then receives the call, such as by answering, caller identifier display, etc., and may wish to return the call. The callee then places a call to the group, rather than the individual who placed the call, which is then routed to members of the group. Any member of the group may then answer the call, thus avoiding issues associated with the originating caller being unavailable when any member of the group could address the purpose of the call. Additionally, status information may be automatically provided to allow group members to receive activity notification for calls to and/or from the group. For example, an indication that a call to an individual was placed on behalf of the group and, optionally, the status (e.g., answered, voicemail, etc.) of the call.

  • Patent number: 9654207
Abstract: Described is a technology by which a mobile computing device such as a mobile telephone operates differently based on detected proximity to another mobile device with which the first mobile device has a defined relationship. For example, the first mobile device may transfer content to the second mobile computing device when proximity corresponds to a non-cellular communications coupling, such as Bluetooth® or Wi-Fi coupling. In this manner, content transfer is deferred until a non-cellular coupling exists. The mobile device (or both devices) may output a notification to indicate that the other mobile computing device has been detected within a threshold proximity, such as via GPS data or by being within the same cellular tower. The type and/or settings of an output notification may vary based on different thresholds.

Abstract: Antenna switching circuitry comprises a plurality of communication ports, an antenna port, a plurality of switches, and an ESD protection device. The plurality of switches are adapted to selectively couple one or more of the communication ports to the antenna port in order to transmit or receive a signal. The ESD protection device is coupled between one of the plurality of communication ports and ground, and is adapted to form a substantially low impedance path to ground during an ESD event. Upon the occurrence of an ESD event, a received electrostatic charge passes through one or more of the plurality of switches to the ESD protection device, where it is safely diverted to ground. By using only one ESD protection device, desensitization of the antenna switching circuitry due to the parasitic loading of the ESD protection device is avoided. Further, the area of the antenna switching circuitry is minimized.

Abstract: Automated control of simulcast ratios based on network traffic data provides efficient network capacity management. In one aspect, a remote switching matrix can be utilized at a venue to couple remote transceiver units (RTUs) with different antenna ports, for example, of one or more multi-beam antennas deployed at the venue. A simulcast ratio that can be utilized to support traffic demand at the venue can be determined and implemented by creating dynamic connections between the RTUs and the antenna ports. In one aspect, the simulcast ratio can be modified based on changes in network traffic at the venue that are monitored via self-organizing network devices. In addition, one or more antenna beams of the multi-beam antennas are remotely steered or rotated based on a location of the traffic.

  • Patent number: 9544779
Abstract: A method for acquiring spectrum beyond the licensed spectrum for wireless network communications comprising accessing a geolocation database to determine a configuration of white space frequencies that may be available and transmitting the carrier aggregation configuration to user equipment (UE). The carrier aggregation configuration may be at least partially encrypted with the key sequences for the encryption being optionally changed for improved security. The white spaces may be activated in a handshake sequence in which a network node transmits an enabling signal to UE, receives an enabling request from UE specifying which white spaces are requested, and transmits an enabling response. In an alternative to transmitting an enabling response, the node may activate the requested white spaces in an LTE signal.

  • Patent number: 9544813
Abstract: A system and method of permitting coexistence of WiFi and Bluetooth® data transfer on a single chip in UE including a transceiver includes using CTS data packets to protect Bluetooth® signals for SCO communication links; using only WiFi circuitry in the chip to determine when Bluetooth® data transfer is required by the UE; establishing a specified period of the Bluetooth® data transfer; and starting WiFi medium contention only upon an end of the specified period of the Bluetooth® data transfer on the single chip. The power save mode of the WiFi circuitry may be used with Bluetooth® ACL data packets in WiFi periodic data transfer gaps. The WiFi data transfer has no timing constraints, whereas the Bluetooth® data transfer has timing constraints and can only occur during the specified period. The WiFi data transfer does not occur when the Bluetooth® data transfer is occurring.

  • Patent number: 9532398
Abstract: A system for setting up a cellular network is provided. The system includes a base station module and a core network module. The base station module has a transmitter, a receiver, and a processor configured to provide base station functions to handle transmission and reception of radio signals to and from cellular devices within the cellular network via the transmitter and receiver. The core network module has a processor configured to provide core network functions to handle cellular communication services for the cellular devices. The system has a switch connected to supply power to the base station module and the core network module from a power source. Activating the switch causes the base station functions and core network functions to be automatically and systematically started up to enable full functionality of the cellular network system. The system is sufficiently compact so that it can be carried by hand.

  • Patent number: 9526126
Abstract: A mobile communications radio receiver for multiple radio network operation includes an RF unit for generating a first down-converted signal from a radio signal received from a first radio network and a second down-converted signal from a radio signal received from a second radio network. Further, the receiver includes a first receiving unit including a user data channel demodulator configured to demodulate a dedicated user data physical channel and a control channel demodulator configured to demodulate a common control data channel of the first radio network based on the first down-converted signal. Still further, the receiver includes a second receiving unit including a pilot channel demodulator configured to demodulate a pilot channel of the second radio network based on the second down-converted signal. A first data connection is configured to couple control data contained in the second down-converted signal to the control channel demodulator of the first receiving unit.

  • Patent number: 9526074
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for determining a transmit antenna gain and a spatial mode of a wireless device (100) are disclosed. The apparatus (100) includes a main receive antenna (112) associated with a first receive signal strength, a diversity receive antenna (114) associated with a second receive signal strength, and a transmit antenna (116). Each of the antennas (112, 114, and 116) is operatively coupled to a controller (102). The controller (102) determines (i) a difference between the first receive signal strength and the second receive signal strength, (ii) a correction factor based on the difference, and (iii) the transmit antenna gain based on the correction factor. In addition, the difference between the first receive signal strength and the second receive signal strength may be used, along with other sensor data (e.g., accelerometer), to estimate the spatial mode (e.g., orientation and hand grip) of the device (100).

  • Patent number: 9521563
Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate to an apparatus, system, and method for controlling access to multiple antennas in a mobile device. The mobile device may determine priority among a first protocol stack associated with a first subscriber identity module (SIM) in the mobile device and a second protocol stack associated with a second SIM in the mobile device. The mobile device may lock control of a position of a switch to the first protocol stack based on determining the priority among the first protocol stack and the second protocol stack. The switch may control access to the multiple antennas. Accordingly, the second protocol stack may be unable to modify the position of the switch when control of the switch is locked to the first protocol stack.
