System With Hierarchical Coverage Areas Patents (Class 455/63.2)
  • Patent number: 8437781
Abstract: An access network may be maintaining data indicating which of its coverage areas have a short occupancy time. The access network may then conduct a first paging of an access terminal in each coverage area in a first set of coverage areas, the first set including a subset of coverage areas having a short occupancy time. Thereafter, the access network may determine that it has not received a response to the first paging from the access terminal during a first timeout period, which is preferably shorter than a predefined paging timeout period. In response, the access network may conduct a second paging of the access terminal in only each coverage area in the subset of coverage areas (i.e., the coverage area(s) in the first set of coverage areas that have the short occupancy time).

  • Patent number: 8155595
Abstract: In a co-channel deployment of narrowband and multi-carrier technologies (e.g., a femtocell and a macrocell), a method provides cancelling of interference which treats the co-channel signals as desired signals and enhances each of them iteratively. At each iteration, each signal is demodulated and regenerated based on symbol decisions already made and a predetermined channel impulse response. To estimate the other (interfering) co-channel signal, the regenerated signal is subtracted from the aggregate signal. Simulations have shown that a method of the present invention can provide fundamental improvement in the performances of both interfering systems in as few as two iterations. The fundamental performance gain that can be obtained outweigh the required computational burden.

Abstract: A wireless access point broadcasts a unique RF domain identifier for each supported service set per radio. Within a wireless local area network (“WLAN”) the RF domain identifier is unique for each supported service set, and hence identifies the service set. In addition to identifying the service sets supported by the access point, RF domain identifiers may be used to adjust transmit power in order to differentiate service sets. For example, if a first access point receives a beacon with an RF domain identifier transmitted by a second access point, the transmit power of communications associated with the service set associated with the received RF domain identifier is reduced at the first access point if that service set is also supported on the same radio by the first access point. Various options can be followed by the policing terminal (PT) including (a) attempting to become the master station of a network of which the interfering terminal is a member and instructing the members to close down or (b) failing to become the master station and transmitting interference signals for at least a selected portion, for example preamble and sync, of the duration of a data packet transmitted by the interfering station.

Abstract: Techniques to control an optical receiver having a control loop using Bit Error Rate (BER). In one implementation, a bit error rate (BER) associated with a received optical signal is determined. Indication of the BER to a control loop adapted is provided to adjust the optical signal in a manner tending to reduce the BER. The received optical signal is adapted in a manner tending to increase the BER such that the control loop operates within an active control region.

  • Patent number: 7565109
Abstract: A deadlocked state in which each communication station cannot recognize mutual existence is evaded to form a self-organized distribution type multi-channel wireless network. In some interference situations, a beacon transmission channel selected on a self criterion is not always a receivable channel for all of neighbor communication stations. A communication station receiving interference from another system periodically transmits an interference annunciation signal (IAS) through all channels under no interference, and informs the neighbor stations of the existence and the channel under interference. Thereby, transmission of a beacon is restrained through the channel under interference up to a beacon-unhearable degree.

Abstract: A difference between DELAY values of paths is compared and when the difference is below a predetermined value, the paths are assumed to be the same and SIRs estimated for these paths are compared to each other. The SIRs are multiplied by corresponding weighting coefficients and are added in an SIR addition circuit 7. This eliminates erroneous recognition of one path as a plurality of paths, causing an enormous SIR after the addition and prevents deterioration of the line quality.
