Abstract: Techniques to enhance the performance in a wireless communication system using CQI feedback optimized to support different scenarios. According to one aspect, an access terminal may select a CQI feedback table based on the access terminals capability. According to another aspect, an access point may select a CQI feedback table based on an access terminals capability, system loading and the type of service provided by the access point. An access point which provides services that require high data rates may select a larger CQI feedback table to support the high data rates for access terminals which support the larger CQI feedback table. The same access point may select a smaller CQI feedback table for access terminals which do not have the capability or need for the high data rate services.

Abstract: In a wireless communications system, a serving base station performs outer and closed power control for an overhead channel and a traffic channel for data, either of which can carry an acknowledgement (Ack) channel and Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) channel on an uplink from User Equipment (UE). In an exemplary aspect, data packet communication is implemented in 3GPP LTE Rel. 8 wherein the uplink has a Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiplex (SC-FDM) uplink waveform. The UE performs open loop power control by a determining transmit power spectral density value by using received energy per symbol for a reference signal.

  • Patent number: 8934850
Abstract: The present invention relates to user equipment (UE) having at least two transmit antennas that are capable of transmitting RF signals to a base station, which selects either an open-loop mode or a closed-loop mode depending on how the RF signals from the UE are changing. In the closed-loop mode, the base station periodically evaluates the RF signals from the UE and selects which of the UE's transmit antennas are to be used. This information is then sent to the UE. If the base station determines that the RF signals from the UE are changing too rapidly for effective control, then the base station selects the open-loop mode, such that the UE selects which of the UE's transmit antennas are to be used.

Abstract: A PDMA terminal (1000) establishes communication by forming a plurality of spatial paths to another single radio apparatus. A plurality of antennas constituting an array antenna are divided into a plurality of subarrays corresponding to the plurality of spatial paths respectively. An adaptive array processing unit (USP) can perform an adaptive array processing for each of the plurality of subarrays. A memory (MMU) stores in advance information on the number of antennas associated with the number of spatial paths that can be formed by the array antenna. A control unit (CNP) controls a processing to transmit possible multiplicity information to another radio apparatus at a prescribed timing.

Abstract: There is provided a method and device for feeding back a pre-coding matrix index of a dual-polarized antenna which has a first antenna array and a second antenna array and is arranged at a base station to which the index of a first pre-coding matrix for the first antenna array, the index of a second pre-coding matrix for the second antenna array and the phase offset between the first pre-coding matrix and the second pre-coding matrix are fed back from a terminal, comprising: computing a distance between the first pre-coding matrix and the second pre-coding matrix; judging whether the distance is larger than a predetermined threshold or not; and assigning less bits to indicate the phase offset if the distance is larger than the predetermined threshold. The method and device according to the present disclosure can effectively advance the feedback accuracy of a system thus improving the bit error rate and throughput of the system.

Abstract: The present invention provides a user equipment for a telecommunications system, the telecommunications system comprising at least a first radio basestation. The user equipment comprises means for controlling a transmission power of the user equipment, such that said transmission power has a first value for a first set of one or more signals sent over a physical channel between the user equipment and the first radio basestation. The first value and said second value are different. In alternative embodiments, the second set of signals are transmitted taking into account information from the serving cell and a neighboring cell, while the first set of signals are transmitted taking into account information from the serving cell only.

  • Patent number: 8929941
Abstract: In a cellular radio system the power control status of a mobile station is used in the base stations to generate power control commands. Hereby a radio base station can select a power control method that is optimal for the situation at hand. This is obtained by communicating power control status to base stations or deriving power control status in a radio base station. The radio base station is adapted to select power control method based on the power control status. Thus, a base station can select the most suitable power control improvement method, even during soft handover, thereby making make use of the advantages of different types of power control improvement methods.

Abstract: The present invention relates to control signaling in wireless communication systems. In particular, the present invention relates to control signaling in MIMO based communication systems. In the method according to the invention control information is transferred from a base station to at least one user equipment, via a plurality of common pilot channels. A set of unique pilot sequences has been pre-defined, and the base station assigns specific pilot sequences from the set of pilot sequences to specific common pilot channels, forming a pilot sequence assignment pattern representing a specific control information. The user equipment, having knowledge of the relations between pilot sequence assignment patterns and control information, interprets the received pilot sequence assignment pattern as specific control information. The method is particularly well suited for broadcast type control information.
