  • Patent number: 8532715
Abstract: An audible location alarm is generated from an ear-level device of a type comprising a memory, a microphone and a speaker, each coupled to a processor. Communication is established between the ear-level device and a companion device, the companion device having an interface, a display associated with the user interface, and an audible location alarm program stored therein. The audible location alarm program is initiated. An audible location alarm signal is transmitted to the ear-level device, thereby providing instruction to the ear-level device to broadcast an audible location alarm through the speaker of the ear level device until detection of an end event.

Abstract: A first device (such as a cell phone) is equipped with a micro-projector, and used to present imagery on a display surface. A second device (such as a second cell phone) is equipped with a digital camera, and used to capture some of the projected imagery. The captured imagery allows a user of the second device to access digital content of interest from a user of the first device, or from elsewhere. The content may be visual, or of other form (content examples include audio, games, maps, text documents, video, spreadsheets, etc.). In one particular arrangement, the projected imagery is encoded with digital watermark data. Abstract: Sensing and communicating data from moving animals is described. In various embodiments a logging and communications device is attached to a wild animal such as a bird; the device senses environmental, physiological or behavioral data about the animal and communicates that data wirelessly to other devices (be they on other animals in the environment or at a scientist's base station). This enables scientists to obtain empirical data about animals in their natural environment without disturbing that environment unduly and with improved data retrieval. In various embodiments the device is physically small and lightweight whilst incorporating sensors such as global positioning systems, pressure sensor, light sensor or others and may be used solely to retrieve data or for both logging and communications.

  • Patent number: 8326271
Abstract: Information that is no longer valid due to the passage of time is not provided to a user. When a stock price information server acquires updated stock price information from a securities market network, a message that instructs that a predetermined application be started up and to which a term of validity has been attached is sent to a user terminal over a paging channel via an SMS server. When the user terminal receives the message, it determines whether or not the message is within the term of validity, and if it determines that the message is within the term of validity, starts up the instructed application from among a plurality of applications that are stored. The stock price information server then sends to the user terminal the stock price information that is requested by the started up application.

  • Publication number: 20120289174
Abstract: A Dual Integrated Core Engine Transceiver “DICE-T” combines two transceivers into a single module. The transceivers are based on mobile processors typically used in handheld devices which have TDPs of less than 2 Watts, thereby allowing two transceivers to fit without overheating into a space typically occupied by a single transceiver. Due to high production volumes and widespread use, the mobile processors are well proven and low in cost. In embodiments, the mobile processors are OMAP processors. In some embodiments, the DICE-T can replace a UT module in a GMR. In some of these embodiments, the OMAP processors include TM320C64xx DSP cores. In certain embodiments, the OMAP processors are DM3730 processors. In various embodiments, each DICE-T module includes a five Watt power amplifier. In embodiments, SINCGAR, SRW, and/or WNW waveforms are supported by software configuration. In some embodiments, transceivers can be transitioned by software between waveforms.

  • Patent number: 8310360
Abstract: A security device paired with a user's cell phone is operable by either a trigger or an accelerometer. The device includes visual and audio alarms, a prerecorded message and an audio recording of the ambient noise. Depression of the trigger will spray mace onto an attacker, activate the alarms and alternately send the message and recording to 9-1-1 or other security monitor. Alternatively, the accelerometer will so activate the device. The alarms and transmissions are synchronized so as to not interfere one with the other. Direct communication with 9-1-1 via the Bluetooth®/cell phone interface is immediately established either by a push-to-talk button or at the termination of a predetermined alarm and message transmission period.
