For example, higher load capability may be provided by a load sharing principal in which torque loads are jointly transmitted through universal joint pins and the side faces of a universal joint cross. The higher load capability also may be achieved by transferring loads through a monolithic cross having integral pins and a split yoke/clevis assembly. In another embodiment, higher load capability results from using universal joint pins inserted from the inside of the universal joint and screwed outwardly until full engagement with the joint yokes is achieved. • Patent number: 6769386
Abstract: The invention concerns a rotary piston adjuster for adjusting the angular position of the camshaft of an internal combustion engine, said adjuster comprising an outer rotor having at least one hydraulic chamber, and an inner rotor comprising at least one pivoting vane that can pivot hydraulically in the hydraulic chamber between a retard stop position and an advance stop position. A locking device suitable for detachably connecting the outer and inner rotors to each other and at least one compression spring acting in opposition to the frictional torque of the camshaft are arranged between the two rotors. A liberal design of the compression spring and a low-wear operation with this spring are enabled by the fact that the compression spring (27, 27′) is arranged in an attachment (4) that is connected to the rotary piston adjuster, and the components of the attachment have a wear-resistant configuration and support the compression spring (27, 27′) at least pointwise over its entire length.

  • Patent number: 6431340
Abstract: This invention offers advantages over the prior art by providing a simple, inexpensive mechanism and method for reducing the shock load on the drive of a rotary or linear actuator when the motion of the actuator output shaft is slowed, even to the point of stopping. This is referred to as bringing the actuator to a “soft stop.” This invention uses a single spring wherein the spring may be a torsion, ribbon or compression spring. The mechanism generally includes a spring, a spring cup and a drive cup. When the motion of the output shaft is slowed or reaches its limit of travel, the spring begins to store energy and brings the drive cup to a soft stop.

Abstract: A machine with a rotary turning apparatus in accordance with one embodiment of the present invention includes a housing with at least one end wall, at least one bearing assembly, a shaft, a passage, a pair of shoulders, an engagement device, and a biasing device. The shaft is mounted for rotation in the housing and on the bearing assembly. The passage extends through the wall to provide access to one end of the shaft. The engagement device has an end which is shaped to mate with the one end of the shaft and is mounted for movement in the passage between the pair of shoulders which are located on the wall in the passage. The biasing device is positioned between one of the shoulders and the collar which extends at least partially around the engagement device. The biasing device biases the one end of the engagement device away from engagement with the one end of the shaft. By compressing the biasing device, the end of the engagement device can be mated with the end of the shaft for manual rotation.

Abstract: A motor-vehicle door has a latch assembly having a door latch having a release lever displaceable to unlatch the door and a horizontally displaceable outside door handle. A transmission member rotatable about an axis is connected to the handle such that horizontal displacement of the handle rotates the transmission member about the axis. An actuating head is rotationally fixed to the transmission member and a shaft generally coaxial with the transmission member carries a formation axially fittable with the actuating head for rotationally coupling the transmission member to the shaft. A crank extending from the shaft is movable angularly about the axis on rotation of the shaft and a link is connected between the crank and the release lever so that when the handle is displaced horizontally the shaft is rotated about the axis, the crank and link are displaced and in turn displace the release lever, and the latch is operated.
