Abstract: A golf swing training device comprising a base adapted for support by the ground and a vertical pole connected to and extending vertically from the base to accommodate the height of a golfer. A reminder seat is connected to the vertical pole to accommodate the golfer's posterior resting against the seat during a golf swing and facing away from the vertical pole. An elastic band is secured to the vertical pole at a distance above the reminder seat forming a loop around the golfer's chest. The elastic band enables the golfer's abdominal and core muscles to keep flexion throughout the golf swing, thereby allowing a free swinging motion of the golfer while limiting lateral and vertical movement of the body.

Provided is the golf swing posture correction system apparatus capable of detecting movement of an anchored leg in a golf swing and notifying a user, thereby correcting a golf swing posture. The golf swing posture correction apparatus detects the movement of the anchored leg, and processes a detected signal, thereby generating sound via a speaker or vibration.

Abstract: The present invention provides a sport training device for improving technique by providing resistance within the context of a sporting movement. The invention comprises an arcuate frame worn on the thigh of a user, which is secure to the user's thigh with an adjustable belt or cuff coupled to the frame. A lever coupled to the frame extends away from the frame in front of the user's body and an elastic cord is anchored to the lever. An attachment means is coupled to the other end of the elastic cord to allow the user's arms to extend the cord, thereby providing resistance to the user's movement. The attachment means attaches the cord to a wrist strap or glove worn by the user or to the handle of a sport implement such as a golf club.

Abstract: A resistance training apparatus and method for providing a plurality of training vectors having points of origin variable by direction and elevation to a trainee. The apparatus may accommodate a plurality of trainees and provide multiple training vectors to each trainee. The apparatus provides the training vectors by attaching tethers such as elastic cords to harnesses worn around body portions of an athlete in a configuration that allows the athlete to perform a sports-specific or therapeutic movement at an optimum speed. In one embodiment the apparatus includes a base forming the training area and a pair of tower assemblies, each providing elastic cords for attachment to the harnesses worn by the athlete. In another embodiment the apparatus provides at least sixteen training vectors to a trainee. In yet another embodiment the apparatus provides training vectors to patients or trainees who cannot fully support their own body weight.

Abstract: A wearable swing training aid for golfers, for use in association with a golf swing which includes a take-away portion and an impact, to follow through portion. The aid has a guide to guide one arm of said golfer during said take-away portion of said golf swing and a limiter to limit movement of the other arm of the golfer past the golfers body during the follow through portion of the golf swing. An adjustable belt is used for securing and positioning the guide and the limiter of the swing training aid onto the body of a golfer. The guide and the limiter are positioned to cause said golfer to move said arms in a controlled manner through said golf swing to thereby limit the position of the golfer through the golf swing to mimic an preferred golf swing. A further aspect of the invention is a method of using the wearable swing training aid to learn a preferred golf swing.

Abstract: A golf training device is provided that includes a cord (flexible member) and a connecting device attached to one end of the cord to connect to a golf club, to a golfer's hand and/or to a golfer's finger. A housing may house the cord when the cord is in a retracted state, and the housing may allow the cord to extend therefrom based on movement of the golf club. The housing may include a mechanism to store information related to a specific amount of the cord extended from the housing, and an identifying device (or signaling device) to identify when the golf club is in a desired position based on the stored information.

Abstract: A multi-sport training apparatus for teaching and improving hitting and throwing skills, including an adjustable waist belt with a buckle; a resilient connector having a distal end and a proximal end, two clamps disposed on the waist belt such that when said waist belt is worn at least one clamp is located near the iliac crest of the user's leading hip and may be employed for adjustably capturing and retaining the proximal end of the resilient connector, a swivelable clip disposed on the distal end of said resilient connector, and a sports implement/hand connector having a hook for attachment to the clip. Also disclosed is a method of using the apparatus to teach hitting and throwing skills.

Abstract: A resistance swing training apparatus and method for providing resistance opposing the rotation of the hips of athletes performing sports-specific movements such as the golf or baseball swing. The apparatus provides the resistance by attaching tethers such elastic cords to a harness worn around the waist of the athlete in a configuration that allows the athlete to perform the sports-specific movement at optimum speed. In one embodiment the apparatus includes a base forming the training area and a pair of training modules for providing the elastic cords for attachment to the hips of the athlete. The lateral spacing and elevation of the elastic cords may be adjusted to fit the athlete. The resistance may also be adjusted in a wide range of resistances to fit the athlete.

The device includes a belt for attaching around a person's hips, a restraint device attached to the back side of the belt, and an anchor system slidably attached to the restraint device. The restraint device can be a nylon strap sewn to the back side of the belt. The anchor system comprises a flexible member, such as a rope, with a first ring attached at one end for slidable attachment to the restraint device. The other end of the anchor system can be tethered to a stationary object or held by a coach. A clip can be attached to the restraint device for limiting the extent of movement of the anchor system along the restraint device and for providing a reference point for swing training.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a body adapted for attachment to a waist of a golfer. A wand-form pointer is secured to the body and has a starting position extending outwardly from the body. The pointer is adapted to encroach into an inside downward swing path of the golfer. The pointer is capable of omni-directional movement, such that it deflects if struck. The pointer is biased to the starting position, such that, when struck, the pointer always returns to the starting position.

Abstract: A training device for a gliding sport athlete trains the athlete to have the proper knee bend for gliding sports such as ice skating, inline skating, skiing, etc. The device includes a belt and a pair of foot attachments adapted to be fastened to a front portion of the respective feet or footwear of the athlete. One end of each pair of cords is connected to the belt at a position between the front portion and a respective side portion, and another end connected to one of the foot attachments. Each of the cords has an unstretched length less than a length between the athlete's waist and feet, to apply a force to urge the athlete's knee into a bent position.

Abstract: A golf putter and a method for using the same is disclosed. The golf putter includes a putter head with an insert and a radial bottom, a shaft attached to the putter head, and a grip having a gap and a weight attached to the shaft, wherein the gap includes a cutout for attaching a clip. When the clip is connected to a golfer's body, the golf putter is effectively anchored to the golfer. The method includes providing a golf club having a putter head with a putting face, approaching a golf ball such that the big toe of the foot furthest from the target is placed adjacent to the golf ball and the golfer's dominant eye is directly over the golf ball, positioning the golfer erect at forty-five degrees to the target, gripping the putter with the golfer's dominant arm, and putting the golf ball by moving the dominant arm and putter along the target line such that the face of the putter head engages the golf ball with appropriate force to drive the golf ball to the target.

Abstract: A golf training apparatus has a frame having a base and an upright frame portion having a cross frame member. A back support is attached to the upright frame portion and positioned to support the back of a golfer making practice swings and includes a Velcro fastener portion attached thereto. A belt for attaching around a golfer has a VELCRO fastener portion positioned in the back thereof and aligned for attachment to the back support fastener portion to thereby removably hold a golfer making practice swings to the golf training apparatus. The golf training apparatus includes a pair of knee brace members for holding a golfer's knees in position during a practice swing and an elongated arm with a head support yoke on the end thereof for supporting a golfer's head during practice swings.

In a particular embodiment, the feedback is audible. More specifically the feedback is a musical tune that has a particular characteristic (such as rhythm) that is particularly suited to a particular body motion (such as a golf swing). The feedback may be in the form of electronically causing the musical tune to go off-key in proportion to a discrepancy between the actual body motion and the target body motion.

Abstract: A golf training device to help maintain the proper synchronous relationship between the movement of hands and hip rotation during a golf swing. In the event that the movement of the hands and hip rotation of the user are out of synchronization, the training device provides feedback to the user. The training aid device basically comprises a strap that secure a sheet to the rearward leg of the user. A trapezoid shaped panel is mounted to the sheet, which provides the user with a reference as to the proper positioning of a user's hands and the shaft of the golf club during address, and which provides a tactile feedback signal to the user, if the user's backswing is improper or if the user's hip rotation and movement of the user's hands are out of synchronization, by making contact with at least one of the user's hands.

The position-indicating rod can be interconnected with the harness so that it extends either substantially parallel with the plane of the trainee's shoulders or angularly with respect thereto.

The device is held across the chest and outer portions are disposed behind the upper arms during the golf club stroke.

The instructional swing device comprises a vest or harness arrangement which positions an adjustable, stretchable strap across the torso of the user from one shoulder to the opposite hip. Attached to the strap is an audible indicating mechanism, such as a buzzer, which is activated by proper movement of the user through stretching of the strap. In operation, the audible indicating mechanism identifies a proper swing during use to provide feedback to the user that the user is performing the desired hip movement in advance of the hands.

Abstract: A novel apparatus and method for controlling and stabilizing the swing mechanics of a golfer is disclosed. More specifically, an apparatus for and method of stabilizing the right knee (the left knee for left handed golfers) of a golfer such that a critical knee flexion angle is maintained throughout the golf swing, the weight of the golfer is properly transferred, and the right hand side (left hand side for left handed golfers) is properly loaded for a reliable, consistent, controlled, and safe golf swing. The apparatus for controlling and stabilizing the swing mechanics of a golfer comprises upper and lower leg support members and an adjustable hinge about the knee flexion axis and that will accommodate variable degrees of flexion depending on golfer specific conditions (e.g. height, arm and leg length, weight, etc.) and environmental conditions (course conditions, ball lie, playing hazards, etc.).

Abstract: A golf swing training aid (10), to be fitted between a player's knees, has an elongate, telescopic body (11), with foam pads (16, 18) on respetive cross-heads (17, 19) at each end of the body (11). A flexible strap (20) releasably secures one cross-head (17) to one of the player's knees and the other cross-head (17) rests against the other knee. The knees are held stable on the backswing and first half of the downswing of the club, but the aid (10) releases the knees as the swing is completed.

Abstract: A golf swing training apparatus including a waist belt to be worn about the girth of the user having a downwardly depending leg strap with one end adjustably attached to the waist belt while the opposite end terminates in a pair of retaining straps. The leg strap is trained between the legs of the user so that a flexible resilient member extends about the leg intended to be immobilized while the restraining straps extend across the front of the user and releasably extend above and below the opposite knee. The retaining straps are arranged in fixed spaced-apart relationship so that the knee comfortably is positioned between the straps. Swinging movement by the upper torso of the user is permitted in a normal way; however, the knee having the resilient member extended thereabout is immobilized since one end of the leg strap is secured to the waist belt while the other end of the leg strap is releasably attached to the opposite leg.

The device includes a member for securing about the torso of an individual and arm bands for securing about the arms of the individual. The arm rails are formed of a rigid material which is resistant to bending out of position. Thus, restraining the arm bands to move along a preferred swing path established by the rails. In addition, the member for securing around the torso and the arm bands are constructed to prevent the device from riding up over the torso and arms of an individual into an ineffective position in the armpits of the individual.

Abstract: A golf swing training device has a compact device housing to be worn at the waist of a user on one hip which contains an inertial mass acceleration sensor for detecting when the user has moved the hip in a weight shift exceeding a given threshold level and for producing a sound output indicative of a correct weight shift for a golf swing. In one embodiment, the housing is a cylindrical tube, the sensor is a weighted metal ball held by a given retaining force of a magnet at one end of the tube, and the sound is produced by the ball striking a stop wall at the opposite end. When the user completes a hip turn and decelerates to a finish, the weighted ball travels back to the retaining end of the tube and produces a second sound which indicates correct completion of the golf swing. The device housing may have a fastener strip to allow it to be worn at an angle to vary the threshold weight shift force required.

The device and method are particularly useful for achieving proper alignment for a golf stroke in which a golf ball is struck to move towards a target. In one embodiment, the device comprises a support member to be worn by the person. A light source is attached to the support member. The light source is adapted to generate a generally linear, visible alignment beam of light on the ground in front of the person when the person is in position to perform a task. The alignment beam is generally parallel to an alignment of the portion of the person's body upon which the support member is worn and, thus, provides an indication of such alignment readily visible to the user in real time.

Abstract: A method for swing training particularly suitable to golf and sports employing a similar power swing is disclosed wherein preferably pliable body spacer objects such as balls of varying sizes, weights, and pliability are placed between a limb and another body surface to restrict movement of said limb wherein specific muscles groups are stretched and trained while imitating swing motion to induce muscle memory. A lightweight ball of at least 25 cm. diameter is placed between the thighs and a smaller ball, e.g. a medicine ball of about 10-25 cm. diameter is gripped between the elbows. Also a ball or other object may be gripped under an armpit.

Abstract: A golf swing teaching aid has been designed to teach a golfer the proper amount of torso and back rotation in executing a back swing for a tee or iron stroke. The teaching aid comprises a harness worn over the golfer's back and an elongate wand that attaches to the harness and extends laterally to the golfer's side. When the golfer stands next to the ball and executes the back swing, the tip of the wand is rotated into a predetermined visual relationship with the ball. Preferably, the tip of the wand is rotated into approximately a plane containing the golf ball and the golfer's eye.

In operation, the user bites down on the mouthpiece and adjusts the connecting member such that it is sufficiently taut to prevent the user from moving his head while executing a swing.
