And Pulley Shiftable Laterally Of Its Axis Of Rotation Patents (Class 474/25)
  • Patent number: 10816077
Abstract: A drive clutch having a compressible torque transfer mechanism configured to transfer torque from an engine or motor to a moveable sheave and configured to reduce wear on components of the drive clutch by eliminating sliding contact between surfaces to transfer torque and change the gear ratio. The torque transfer mechanism increases efficiency and reduces wear and may comprise a torque bellows, which is configured to transfer torque from the engine to the moveable sheave upon radial compression of the torque bellows. Sliding blocks and corresponding slide tracks are concentrically positioned between the moveable sheave and the shift plate and centrifugal force provides a force for linear movement for the sliding blocks, which results in movement of the moveable sheave and the cover, which can act to compress the torque bellows. This configuration reduces costs because precise machining is not needed and reduces premature wear and tear on the drive clutch.

Abstract: A continuously variable conical pulley transmission having pairs of conical pulleys which are rotationally fixedly arranged on drive input and drive output shafts and of which in each case one is fixed to the shaft and one is axially movable, and between which a traction mechanism belt for power transmission circulates. In order that it is not necessary to provide otherwise unutilized regions of the conical pulley surfaces to allow for corresponding wear, it is proposed that a stop for limiting the transmission ratio, which stop acts substantially in the radial direction on the traction mechanism belt, be provided in at least one conical pulley pair. It is intended in particular that the peripheral surface of the drive input shaft serves as a stop. It is also proposed that a chain as a traction mechanism belt be correspondingly matched to a device of said type by virtue of the contour of the links of said chain being matched to the contour of the drive input shaft.

Abstract: In a variable speed transmission of the pulley type, one of the pulley cheeks is movable axially with respect to the other which is stationary. The movable cheek faces a reaction cup which is solid with the stationary cheek. The cup and the movable cheek are formed with converging cam surfaces which define between them a chamber into which are disposed centrifugal weights having ends sliding on the cam surfaces. When the pulley and reaction cup rotate, the weights are thrown outward and force the movable cheek toward the stationary one. According to the invention, the cam surface of the reaction cup is concave, having a radius of curvature of predetermined length. On the other hand, the end edges of the centrifugal weights slidable on the cam surface of the reaction cup are convex and have a radius of curvature shorter than said predetermined length so that the ends of the weights bear only on a limited part of the cam surface of the reaction cup.
