  • Patent number: 11326648
Abstract: A belt pulley decoupler for the drive torque transmission between a belt of a starter-generator belt drive and the starter generator is provided. A hub is fastened on a generator shaft of the starter generator. A decoupler spring is configured to transmit drive torque of the belt from the belt pulley to the hub when the starter generator is powered. A rotary stop has a stop part on the belt pulley and a stop part on the hub. The rotary stop is configured to transmit drive torque of the generator shaft from the hub to the belt pulley when the starter generator is driving the belt. The decoupler spring is loaded in both torque directions and participates in the transmission of the drive torque from the hub to the belt pulley when the starter generator is driving the belt.

Abstract: A decoupler is provided for rotationally driving a generator of an auxiliary-unit belt drive of an internal combustion engine, including: a pulley, a hub, and two bearing points, at which the pulley is rotatably supported on the hub, a series arrangement of a helical torsion spring and a one-way clutch, which allows the hub to overtake the pulley, and a spring plate, which is rotationally fixed in relation to the pulley or the hub, for the one spring end and a spring plate, which can be rotated in relation to the pulley and the hub, for the other spring end. The spring ends, which lie against ramp steps of the spring plates, radially expand the helical torsion spring as the driving torque is transmitted. The frictional torque, produced in one of the bearing points when the hub is overtaking, acts on the rotatable spring plate in a direction of rotation of the rotationally fixed spring plate.

A clutch surface is formed on the inner periphery of the pulley and is formed with a large-diameter recess at a position opposite to the end portion of the clutch spring including the torque transmission end. When the pulley rotates in one direction, the clutch spring expands. At this time, the end portion of the clutch spring including the torque transmission end expands in the large-diameter recess, thus relaxing sharp torque produced in the clutch. This prevents local stress concentration on the clutch spring and breakage of the clutch spring and improves the durability of the clutch.

Abstract: An apparatus for driving and braking a cutting blade of a lawn mower is disclosed. The apparatus includes a shaft for rotating the blade, and a pulley driven by the engine. The shaft extends through a housing. The apparatus includes means for biasing the pulley toward the housing, and means for translating the pulley away from the housing. The apparatus has a stopped position in which the pulley and housing are in friction contact, and has a cutting position in which the pulley and housing are not in friction contact. When power is delivered from the engine to drive the pulley, the apparatus moves from the stopped position to the cutting position such that the pulley and the housing are not in friction contact and the blade rotates. When power ceases being delivered to the pulley, the apparatus moves from the cutting position to the stopped position such that the pulley and the housing are placed in friction contact and the blade stops.

Abstract: A screw engagement portion between a pulley and a shaft is provided with a thread in a direction to increase the tightening torque when the pulley is driven. A breakable part broken by the axial tension produced when the tightening torque acting on the screw engagement portion is above a predetermined value, is also provided. The stress to break the breakable part is mainly a tensile stress. The tensile stress is substantially uniformly distributed in a cross section and, hence, the stress distribution of the breakable part can be relatively precisely predicted and analyzed. Consequently, the necessity of determining aspects of the breakable part, such as dimension, material, and the like, by trial and error is reduced. The breakable part can be broken without being subject to fatigue fracture.

  • Patent number: 5830094
Abstract: A transmission for reducing the pulley ratio between a drive shaft and a transmission shaft. The transmission is adapted to convert a higher speed rotary motion to a lower speed linear motion. The transmission has two pulleys rigidly mounted together on a shaft and the pulleys have a different number of teeth. A pair of belts are mounted on the drive shaft and a follower shaft, each one of the belts engages one of the transmission pulleys. One belt on the transmission shaft engages a pulley on the top of a first transmission pulley and another on the bottom of a second transmission pulley. When the drive shaft imparts motion to the belts, the belts move the transmission between the drive shaft and the follower shaft. By arresting the movement of one of the belts by a clutch/brake, the transmission can be converted into a two speed transmission. If the belts are independently driven, one each by two motors, the transmission becomes operable in an infinite number of pulley ratios.
