  • Patent number: 4813917
Abstract: A drive assembly for a powered mechanism initially demonstrated in the form of a bicycle type vehicle wherein the drive assembly is manually powered and comprises a gear assembly including a plurality of gear pairs. Each gear of each gear pair is connected to either a drive shaft or a driven axle and the various gears of the plurality of gear pairs are specifically sized and drivingly interconnected to one another so as to maximize efficiency in operation and provide a smooth transmission of power from the drive shaft to the driven axle. Energy in the form of a pulling force is retransmitted back to the drive shaft to render the subject drive assembly more efficient and require less manual exertion and manpower delivered into the system of the drive assembly to maintain the vehicle or other mechanism being driven in operation.

  • Patent number: 4728315
Abstract: A two-speed drive for a generator of an internal combustion engine includes two belt pulleys and centrifugal type friction-clutch coupling. The coupling has an actuating lever formed as a flyweight and pivotally supported against the force of a spring on a pin connected either to the belt pulley of a smaller diameter or to the generator or to the generator fan. The coupling can be mounted either to the driven side of the generator or to its driving side. A coupling jaw pivotally supported on the actuating lever cooperates with a friction surface provided on the housing of the coupling. An angle formed between the direction of action of the resulting normal force acting on the coupling jaw and the line between the pivot point of the lever and the pivot point of the coupling jaw corresponds to a friction angle at static friction.

  • Patent number: 4676767
Abstract: The present invention relates to a driving device for signs having movable display screens which are multilateral and simultaneously rotatable by means of a driving unit for providing a number of continuously recurrent pictures corresponding to the number of sides on the display screens. Some of the display screens comprise two toothed pulleys of which one is adapted to cooperate with a toothed belt for transferring the driving power of the driving unit from a preceding display screen. The other pulley is adapted to cooperate with another toothed belt for transferring the driving power to a succeeding display screen. In order to facilitate setting of the display screens relative to each other by tightening and loosening of said toothed pulleys and by preventing toothed pulleys for the same display screen from rotating relative to each other during setting, both toothed pulleys for the display screen form part of a toothed twin-pulley as toothed portions which are fixedly connected to each other.

  • Patent number: 4664645
Abstract: A pavement cutting saw is provided with a power train for accommodating high horsepower engines. A combination of pulleys, gears and coacting drive belts allows high horsepower to be delivered to a cutting tool while enabling the cutting tool to effect a deep cut and while avoiding interference between the pavement surface and any power train components. The power train may be arranged as a two-step speed reduction system to enable the engine to run at relatively high operating speeds and to allow the blade to rotate within a preferred speed range.

  • Patent number: 4661086
Abstract: A transmission particularly adapted for use in ultralight aircraft, air boats, home built aircraft or the like has a transmission case within which four gears are contained to provide the requisite speed reduction. A torque input gear is coaxially mounted with an output gear so that the transmission torque input shaft is in axial alignment with the transmission output shaft. A pair of intermediate speed reduction gears are laterally offset from the input and output gears and are mounted on a common jackshaft. One of the intermediate gears is belt driven by the input gear and the other intermediate gear belt drives the output gear to provide the requisite speed reduction. The gears and drive belts are toothed. The use of toothed drive belts and gears provide for positive drive of the transmission components.

  • Patent number: 4616742
Abstract: An electromagnetic clutch is disclosed which includes a pulley and an electromagnetic coil. A hub is secured on a drive shaft and has a radially extending flange portion which faces the pulley at a predetermined axial gap. An armature plate is disposed in the axial gap between the pulley and the radially extending flange portion of the hub. The armature plate is elastically connected to the flange portion of the hub by a plurality of spring members. The spring members are provided with a pair of fittings radially opposed to one another at a predetermined radial gap to prevent excessive bending of the spring members during initial operation of the electromagnetic clutch. When the armature plate beings to rotate, each spring member bends to reduce the gap between the pair of radially opposed fittings to thereby absorb the impact force.

  • Patent number: 4373927
Abstract: A two-speed transmission having an input shaft and an output shaft. A slow speed input pulley and a high speed input pulley are provided on the input shaft. An overrunning clutch and a selectively engageable clutch are provided on the output shaft, each of which has a pulley provided thereon.
