Abstract: An apparatus and methods are provided for a throttle body spacer that improves the performance of an internal combustion engine. The throttle body spacer comprises a body that includes an airflow opening for conducting airflow from a throttle body into an intake manifold. A spiral is disposed along a sidewall of the airflow opening and configured for swirling the airflow. The spiral comprises a helical shape disposed around a circumference of the sidewall and extends from an initial bore near a first contact surface of the body to a second contact surface. The helical shape includes a diameter that increases as the spiral extends toward the second contact surface, giving the body a sidewall taper angle that contributes to an increase in power output of the engine. A sawtooth cross-sectional shape of the spiral causes the airflow to swirl so as to improve atomization of an air-fuel mixture entering engine.

Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus for online and on-site tracer generation for tagging natural gas stored in underground storage fields wherein feedstock is drawn from a feedstock source. The feedstock undergoes initial analysis to determine hydrocarbons levels. The feedstock then undergoes reaction to produce tracers such as ethylene, propylene, acetylene hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The feedstock is then analyzed to determine post reaction tracer concentration. The feedstock including generated tracers is then introduced back into the feedstock stream. Tracer levels in the pre-reaction or initial analysis of feedstock are compared with tracer levels in the post-reaction feedstock and the rate of flow of feedstock through the system is adjusted to achieve a predetermined level of tracer concentration. The level of tracer concentration will then be used to identify the particular natural gas charge in a storage field.

Abstract: In a fuel-air mixture device, downstream of a throttle (4) and a fuel introduction device, a block (51) is provided across the primary air passage (2). The block has a plurality of passageways (54) through it for air flow towards an inlet manifold. These improve mixture of the fuel and air.

Abstract: A reformer (5) which generates hydrogen-rich reformate gas by causing a catalytic reaction of fuel and air comprises a premixing chamber (12) for premixing the fuel with the air. High temperature air is supplied to the premixing chamber (12) from an air intake tube (13) via an orifice (14). A fuel injector (16) injects the fuel into the flow of the high temperature air in the premixing chamber (12) to generate fuel-air mixture. A homogenizing filter (17) homogenizes the composition of the fuel-air mixture in the premixing chamber (12) and supplies a uniform fuel-air mixture to a reforming catalyst (11).

Abstract: A device for use in an intake path of an internal combustion engine includes a body portion having an upper surface and a lower surface. The body portion includes at least one passage surface defining at least one passage about an axis from the upper surface to the lower surface. The passage surface further defines a plurality of channels about the axis of the passage. Each channel extends from a channel opening in the upper surface to a channel opening in the lower surface. Further, the device may include a passage surface that is a continuous surface from the upper surface of the body portion to the lower surface of the body portion. The continuous surface extends from a first opening of the passage inward towards the axis of the passage and then further extends away from the axis towards a second opening of the passage at the lower surface of the body portion forming a venturi through the device.

Abstract: Swirl is imparted to an air intake charge by a gas swirling device which may be inserted into an air intake hose or secured to a throttle body. The gas swirling device has a cylindrical body which is split along a generally longitudinally extending seam to allow the device to adjust its radial dimension. The device is formed from a single piece of bendable material and includes a plurality of swirling vanes which are formed integral with the cylindrical body of material and which are bent radially inwardly toward the central axis of the cylinder. In an embodiment for axial air flow, each of the blades is skewed relative to the axis of the cylinder for changing the direction of air flow through the cylinder and to encourage swirl in the air flow.

  • Patent number: 6299657
Abstract: In the reaction process, at least two educts A, B are divided by a system, assigned to each of them, of slit-like microchannels 1a, 1b into spatially separate fluid lamellae, which then emerge into a common mixing and reaction space 4. The fluid lamellae here have a thickness <1,000 &mgr;m, preferably <100 &mgr;m, at a width thickness ratio of at least 10. It is essential here that educts A, B can emerge as thin fluid lamellae 6a, 6b into the mixing/reaction space 4, each fluid lamella 6a of an educt A being led into the mixing/reaction space 4 in the immediate vicinity of a fluid lamella 6b of another educt B. The adjacent fluid lamellae 6a, 6b then subsequently mix by diffusion and/or turbulence. As a result, the mixing operation is accelerated substantially compared with conventional reactors. In the case of rapid chemical reactions, the formation of undesirable by-products or secondary products is largely prevented in this manner.

  • Patent number: 6213453
Abstract: A gasification auxiliary device for high pressure oil ejection is disclosed, especially, a multiple penetrating gasification auxiliary device. The device can be used to atomize oil molecules. The gasification auxiliary device includes an upper case, a lower case, and two banks of gasification blades. The two banks of gasification blades are alternatively arranged with one another. The gasification blades can be provided within the device, so that the lower half edges and upper half edges of alternative gasification blades do not have gasification holes and are tightly connected to the case. Alternatively, the gasification blades can be arranged within the device, so that a gap exists alternatively between the upper and lower edge of the gasification blades and the wall of the case. When oil under high pressure is ejected into the device, the oil molecules will pass through the holes or gaps and gasify.
