Abstract: A training apparatus is disclosed that will enable a trainee to exercise with a load that is suited to his or her physical build in the forward path and return path of a repetitive exercise. A motor applies a load to a bar (corresponds to a moving unit) that moves repetitively due to a trainee's exercise. The load that is applied by the motor is not fixed, but rather varies during the repetitive exercise. The width of the repetitive exercise, i.e., the width of the range of motion of the bar, takes into account differences in the physique of individual trainees. Consequently, varying the method by which the load changes in accordance with the width of the range of motion makes it possible to apply a load that is suited to the physique of each individual trainee, thereby enabling each trainee to exercise effectively.

Abstract: To carry out step number measurement more precisely even when a walk signal enough to be detected is not obtained. After a fixed noise of a signal detected by an acceleration detecting portion having an acceleration sensor is removed by a filter portion of a counting portion, a walk cycle comparing portion compares a cycle of the resultant signal with a moving average value calculated by a walk cycle calculating portion, and each signal within a predetermined cycle range is counted as the number of steps for one step by a step number counting portion. A signal within a range similar to a cycle n times as large as a predetermined cycle of the signals each beyond the predetermined cycle range is judged as the number of steps for n steps by an extra-regulation step number processing portion and is counted as the number of steps for n steps by the step number counting portion. Data on the number of steps obtained through the counting in the step number counting portion is displayed on a display portion.

Abstract: A device and method for motivating a person to start and maintain an exercise routine. A handheld electronic device is provided that includes a display. The electronic device randomly selects times that exercise should be performed. At those times, a person is prompted to select a type of exercise that is appropriate for the location and circumstances that person finds him/herself. After selecting the appropriate type of exercises, the selected exercises are portrayed on the display of the device. The device also sets a time frame in which the various exercises are to be completed and motivates a person to perform the exercises within that time frame. At the end of the time period, the device prompts the user as to whether or not the various exercises were performed in the given time period. A fitness report is then displayed showing improved or declining fitness.

  • Patent number: 7153236
Abstract: The muscle exerciser and toner device with microprocessor controlled multiple workouts, produces specially timed vibrations to exercise muscles and burn body fat without a need to perform an actual physical exercise. The device can be attached to different parts of the human body and thru vibrations make the muscles contract and extend. This is equivalent to a process of a genuine exercise session. A motor generates vibration with an eccentric weight mounted on a shaft. The motor is controlled by a microprocessor, which runs a specifically timed workout program consisting of exercise and rest cycles. After the workout is over the device shuts off automatically. The device operation is simple and requires pressing one button. The timing of the workout program is similar to that of a real exercise session, thus enabling the device to emulate a genuine physical workout. Several devices can be placed on various muscles simultaneously.
