Having Weight Feature (e.g., Dumbbell, Etc.) Patents (Class 482/50)
  • Patent number: 6916275
Abstract: A muscle strengthening bar for the shoulders, arms, hands and wrist that includes a roll-up bar, a weight support by a plate on the end of a strap and a pair of handles on the roll-up bar. The user, by extending out the arms, can raise and lower the weight on the strap by rolling the handles attached to the roll-up bar. The rolling action of hands on the handles causes tension on the strap which is attached to the plate which supports the weight.

  • Patent number: 6780144
Abstract: An exerciser has a hub, a flat strap having one end connected to the hub and adapted to be wound on the hub, a handle connected to an opposite end of the strap for allowing a user to hold the handle to support the hub and a pair of disk-shaped weights connected to opposite sides of the hub. The weights spin in one direction as the hub moves away from the handle and the strap unwinds from the hub, and continue in the same direction as the hub moves toward the handle and the strap winds onto the hub. The weights can each be made of a mounting dish and a plurality of hollow segments each for receiving a pourable material for adding weight to the segments. The segments are engaged to the dish to form a substantially closed disk-shaped weight and knobs are screwed to the hub and over caps for closing the hollow segment for fixing the segments to the dish. The weight can also be used for other exercise devices.

  • Patent number: 6770016
Abstract: The invention herein provides a “thick bar” barbell that permits free rotation of weight plates during weightlifting movements, weighs less than 50 lbs. and accommodates standard Olympic weight plates. Briefly, the invention comprising a generally cylindrical bar of generally annular cross-section having an outer diameter of between approximately 1.5 inches and 3.5 inches and extending longitudinally between a pair of end regions. A rod member is securely inserted within each end region of the bar. Each rod member has an outer segment extending longitudinally outward beyond the respective end region of the bar, the segment having an O.D. less than the O.D. of the bar. Generally cylindrical sleeves are mounted on the outer segments of the rod members for rotation thereabout the bar's longitudinal axis, with a bushing between each of the rod segments and the respective sleeve. The outer diameter of each sleeve is sized to accommodate the 50 mm hole found in standard Olympic weight plates.

  • Patent number: 6758795
Abstract: A readily portable dumbell or barbell for exercising and weight training is provided in which weight units on an elongated handle comprise front and rear end plates interconnected by a collapsible/expandible fluid receptacle in the form of a resilient bellows. The weight unit is lengthened and expanded when fluid is added and is shortened and decreased in volume when fluid is removed. Calibration means are provided for visually indicating the weight of the unit corresponding to the longitudinal spacing between the front and end plates of the unit. In a preferred embodiment, a visually readable measurement of weight is provided by means for a graduated bar insert which extends slidably within the hollow handle of the dumbell or barbell and moves therealong with expansion or contraction of the water-filled bellows.

  • Patent number: 6592498
Abstract: Exercise devices which are arranged to replicate the feel and effect of exercising with free weights but providing resistance in two directions away from a null position are disclosed. One example of a device comprises a handle 1021 which can be grasped by an exerciser and which is mounted on an articulated arm portion 1002 which in turn is mounted to a frame 1005. A weight 1031, lever arm 1032 and hydraulic transmission means provide resistance to movement. A first arm member 1022 is pivotally mounted to allow pivotal movement about an axis. Pivotal movement about this axis in two directions away from a null position is resisted by the weight 1031. The weight 1031 also tends to urge the arm member 1022 back towards the null position. The null position can be adjusted using the hydraulic arrangement.

  • Publication number: 20020128126
Abstract: Weighted exercise gloves shaped like boxing gloves. The shape and distribution of the weight about the gloves allows the user to have resistance weight at the end of his arms without having to grip the weight. The weight is equally distributed across the hands and lower forearms, and there is no requirement to grip the weight of the gloves, thus stress on the wrists is minimized.

  • Patent number: 6224514
Abstract: Exercise apparatus has a base to which is pivoted one end of a rockable arm, the opposite end of which is coupled to one end of a force transmitting line by means of which the arm may be rocked from and to a rest position. Movement of the arm away from the rest position is yieldably opposed by elastic resistance members which react between the rockable arm and the base. An upright arm is removably supported by the base and is equipped with one or more line guides about which the force transmitting line may be reeved. In one embodiment the line guide automatically compensates for variations in the force which must be applied on the rockable arm to overcome variations in the resistance of the resistance members.
