Initial Or Terminal Movement Transverse To Sliding Movement Edgewise Of Portal Patents (Class 49/209)
  • Patent number: 5261720
Abstract: A vehicle, such as a sport utility vehicle, is provided with a vertically moving panel for opening and closing the rear of the vehicle. The panel is mounted on telescoping tracks located on opposited sides of an opening in the rear of the vehicle, and moves from a closed position covering the opening to an open position located vertically above the vehicle. The panel moves in a plane parallel to the opening in the vehicle; and gas cylinders are provided to facilitate the opening and closing of the panel, and to hold it in an open position after it has been lifted to such a position.

  • Patent number: 5185955
Abstract: Sash windows of the type having two vertically sliding sashes placed in mutually offset planes for sliding so as to cover each other when opening the window, the sashes being guided in vertical guides (4) cut in a common frame (1), and wherein each sash is equilibrated, i.e. self-retaining, in any position by means of balance springs (5); the sashes being carried by sliding mountings consisting of slide block members (6) having projecting pins (9) engaging elongated oblique guiding grooves in the sash sides, to guide the sash relative to the sliding mountings--and therefore also relative to the pins--so that the sash is subjected to a plane-parallel displacement toward or away from the frame (1), to compress elastomer profiled sealing strips between the sash and the frame or between the middle sections of the sashes to obtain sealing of the window when closed.

  • Patent number: 4884556
Abstract: A prefabricated zero clearance fireplace includes a combustion chamber having a front opening, a glass door sized and shaped for positioning over and sealing the opening and a guide system for guiding vertical movement of the door between a lowered position over the opening and a raised position. The guide system includes tracks that are inwardly offset at their lowermost ends so that the door seals the combustion chamber without friction as the door is raised and lowered. Counterweights permit the door to be easily raised and lowered. For safety, the counterweights cause the door to automatically raise if it is pushed outwardly from the inside. The door is hinged for pivoting outwardly about a vertical axis in the lowered position. An optional motor can be provided for raising and lowering the door. A convection chamber surrounding the combustion chamber permits circulation and heating of room air.

  • Patent number: 4869544
Abstract: The apparatus enables a door to be moved into, out of and across an opening in a structure. A motor vehicle has upper, lower and intermediate guides 1, 7, 12 by which a door 6 is suspended and guided for movement by way of guide members 5', 8, 15 engaged with the guides. Curves 1', 7' at the front of guides 1, 7 guide the door into the opening. A door plate 14 and arm 16 constitute a hinge and the arm 12 is pivoted to the intermediate guide member 15. When the door is in the opening the arm 16 prevents downward pivoting of a carrier 19 on the intermediate guide member 15 whereby a roller 21 on the carrier is engaged with an abutment end 22 of the intermediate guide 12, preventing the intermediate guide member 15 engaged with it from sliding rearwardly along that guide 12. Initially, during opening, the curves of the upper and lower guides 1, 7 and the hinge 14, 16 cause movement of the door laterally out of the opening and to the rear.

  • Patent number: 4702514
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a sliding door. The bottom of the door assembly is pivotally mounted to a base. To open the door, the top of the door assembly is pulled away from the opening, to clear the structure. Then the door, which is mounted on vertical guiides, is rolled on these guides to provide an unobstructed opening. The door can be in close quarters, and when open does not interfere with movement into or out of the structure. This invention pertains to doors, windows, hatches, trap doors, skylights or any other temporary closable or openable opening in a structure where it can be utilized.

  • Patent number: 4688352
Abstract: An automatic door for large-sized refrigerators, etc. is comprised of a door panel slidably supported by a stationary horizontal guide rail, a double-acting horizontal piston-cylinder unit for sliding the door panel along the guide rail for opening or closing the front opening of the refrigerator, and tightening units for tightening the door panel against a refrigerator panel when the door panel is in the closure position. The double-acting piston-cylinder unit is freed of pressure when the door panel is in the closure position so that the door panel is maintained in the latter position solely by the tightening pressure of the tightening units this pressure selected so as to be sufficiently small enough to be overcome by manual pressure if the need arises and yet still maintain the door panel in a hermetically sealed position against the refrigerator panel.

Engagement of the reduction stage occurs automatically when starting out from a cover reference position, the hub is moved in a rotational direction corresponding to that for producing the cover tilting movement. The rotational axes of the hub and of the driving pinion coincide and the control gear is disposed coaxially in relation to the common rotational axis of the hub and of the driving pinion.

Abstract: A magnetically sealed sliding window system including a perimetric frame including header and base portions each defining a narrow channel for receiving a glazing pane and an adjacent second channel. A sliding panel is seated within the second channel. Longitudinal magnets are secured on the inner face of the sliding panel. Where the perimetric frame is formed of nonmagnetic material, magnets also are secured along the header and base second channel sections. No magnets are required on the perimetric frame when same is formed of magnetic material such as steel. In sealed condition, the sliding panel is positioned above the floor of the base channel with the panel magnetically held. The magnets have longitudinally extending magnetic poles establishing a magnetic coupling between adjacent unlike poles. The height of the sliding panel is less than the height of the frame.

  • Patent number: 4432164
Abstract: A door closing device for an autoclave or the like is disclosed. Planar slides are provided on the door in planes parallel and perpendicular to the access opening plane. The slides have first guideways and are displaceable in their planes parallel to the access opening plane. Lateral guide members to opposite sides of the door are freely displaceable in the first guideways. Second guideways are formed in two wall members fixed to the frame, facing and parallel to the slides. The first and second guideways have paths determined to constrain movement of the guide members and the door so that for engagement and disengagement with the access opening edge the door is displaceable at right angles to the access opening and when the door is at a distance from the access opening edge it is displaceable by translation parallel to the access opening plane.
