Abstract: A system and method are provided for providing an improved inker unit surface cleaning and conditioning system, including in a single anilox chamber blade system, for improving image quality, including eliminating ghosting, in a proposed variable data digital lithographic image forming architecture. Techniques are provided to remove acquired oil from an inking member. A particularly-configured containment encloses a cleaner (disturber) roller to emulsify the acquired oil on the inking roller. The cleaner roller is preferably configured with a pliable surface including a silicon roller surface over a porous base. The silicon roller (1) absorbs dampening solution oil; and (2) agitates ink that may be still held in certain cells/cavities of the inking member or roller. In embodiments, a vacuum pressure is applied to the inside of the hollow cleaner roller to better remove the residual ink and dampening solution from the inking roller.

Abstract: With the invention a metallic flat product can be systematically made available with such a fine, stochastic or quasi-stochastic surface texture that after a typical automotive paint application it is only minimally perceptible, if at all, by the human eye. At the same time, in the case of a surface topography constituted according to the invention, the transition between the peak plateaus and the valleys takes place via steep flanks. In this way, it is achieved that the morphology of the sheet metal surface is practically independent of the actual depth of the valleys. As a result therefore, the morphology of the sheet metal surface of a metallic flat product according to the invention is also independent of the skin-pass rate, which is obtained when the fine metal texture is produced by skin-pass rolling.

Abstract: In a recording apparatus that performs the recording on a medium to be recorded, a transport driving roller as a medium transport roller taking charge of the transportation of the medium to be recorded is formed by machining a plate material in a cylindrical shape. On its outer peripheral surface, in a transport region adjoining a piece of paper, through holes are formed to penetrate in a thickness direction of a hollow shaft. Thus paper powder attached to the paper is introduced from the through hole into the inner portion of the hollow shaft and is discharged through the hole to a lower portion of the hollow shaft. Consequently, it is possible to prevent the paper powder from being reattached or scattered to the paper without separately providing a special component, thus preventing or suppressing the paper powder from being attached to the recording head.

  • Patent number: 6324978
Abstract: The invention relates to a printing plate substrate made of a rolled and embossed aluminum strip, wherein the surface has depressions with an average diameter of <25 &mgr;m and an aspect ratio of <1.5 (ratio length/width relative to the transport direction of the strip). The number of depressions is >2,500/mm2. The invention also relates to a method of making an aluminum printing plate substrate, wherein the surface of the aluminum strip is roughened using rollers. The surfaces of the rollers have microscopically small, stochastically distributed, dome-shaped projections. In cross-sectional view, the rollers have a round ridge-shaped roughness profile. The invention is also directed to an offset printing plate, wherein a printing plate substrate is produced with the method and provided with an anodically deposited oxide layer. A light-sensitive hydrophobic, oleophilic layer is deposited on the oxide layer.
