  • Patent number: 5283121
Abstract: A coating comprising a non-porous textured corrosion resistant and abrasion resistant base layer of metal is applied by a thermal flame spray process using a high-velocity oxy-fuel, and a top coating of a continuous film of fluoropolymer is used to enhance and protect the surface bare metal on industrial rollers in a multitude of industrial environments that are corrosive, abrasive or otherwise have elements present which tend to stick to the roller surface. The corresponding method comprises the steps of providing a body member having a relatively soft and corrodible metal first layer, applying a middle metal layer to the first layer by a high-velocity oxy-fuel type metal thermal spray process, applying an outer layer comprising a fluoropolymer coating over said middle layer to provide a non-sticking characteristic to the coating; and heating said outer layer to a level above the curing temperature of the fluoropolymer so as to bond the fluoropolymer to said middle layer.

  • Patent number: 5229813
Abstract: A backup roller assembly having a plurality of rollers for applying pressure to an inside surface of a photoreceptor web, and a process for making such backup rollers is disclosed wherein a thin walled tube is extruded from a metallic or polymeric material. After extrusion, the tubing is cut to a desired length and filled with a filler, preferably a urethane foam for providing support for the thin-walled tubing, for the adhesion of journals at each end of the tube and for grounding the photoreceptor web. After the journals are attached at each end of the tubing by the adhesion of the foam, the backup roller can be ground to a precise outer diameter. In a final step, the journals are machined to the proper specifications.

  • Patent number: 5225007
Abstract: The wear-resistant compound roll is constituted by a shell portion made of an iron-base alloy having the composition consisting essentially of 1.0-3.5 weight % of C, 3.0 weight % or less of Si, 1.5 weight % or less of Mn, 2-10 weight % of Cr, 9 weight % or less of Mo, 20 weight % or less of W, 2-15 weight % of V, 0.08 weight % or less of P, 0.06 weight % or less of S, 300 ppm or less of B, the balance being substantially Fe and inevitable impurities, and a shaft portion made of steel. The iron-base alloy of the shell portion has a structure containing by an area ratio 5-30 % of granular carbides and 5 % or less of non-granular carbides, an alloy matrix of the shell portion having a Vickers hardness (Hv) of 550 or more. This compound roll has excellent wear resistance and resistance to surface roughening.
