Folder Driven By Stationary Cam Patents (Class 493/166)
  • Patent number: 6837029
Abstract: A carton closure method wherein heated end side walls of the open end of a carton are initially infolded to partially close the open end of the carton and thereafter subjected to capture between a backup pad and a pressure pad by a linearly reciprocative cam to which pressure is applied by a cam follower driven in a direction substantially perpendicular to the direction of linear movement of the cam relative to the backup pad, whereby the cam is moved between positions wherein there is applied pressure against the partially infolded portions of the end side walls of a carton blank to effect a sealing pressure against such infolded portions and a position wherein no material pressure is applied to the partially infolded end side walls of the carton blank, the cam movement being facilitated by a multi-faceted geometry of the camming face of the cam.

  • Patent number: 6669614
Abstract: A carton closure system including a cam having a rear face and a camming surface opposite the rear face, the cam being mounted for linear reciprocation between a position wherein there is applied pressure against partially infolded portions of the end side walls of a carton blank to effect a sealing pressure against such infolded portions and a position wherein no material pressure is applied to the partially infolded end side walls of the carton blank, the movement between such pressure and non-pressure applied positions being facilitated by means of a multi-faceted geometry of the camming face of the cam.

  • Publication number: 20030027701
Abstract: Provided herein is a process consisting in: preparing a folded leaf (1) comprising a first main flap (1a) and a second main flap (1b) which overlap one another and a bottom edge (2) joining the main flaps (1a, 1b); tucking in the folded leaf (1) at the bottom edge (2) to form bellows including a first and a second base strip (3a, 3b) inserted between the main flaps (1a, 1b); making at the bellows short furrows (6), which are incised and welded and are spaced from one another, turning up a base strip (3a) on a main flap (1a) to form triangular pockets (7) at the short furrows (6); fixing the triangular pockets (7) to the base strips (3a, 3b); and separating each bag from the folded leaf (1).

  • Patent number: 6017298
Abstract: A machine for folding materials is disclosed in which the portion of the material is engaged and folded by a rotary cam such that the surface of the portion is engaged and not the edges of the portion. In the preferred embodiment, creasing rollers are positioned along the fold line above the rotary cam folders such that the fold is made very accurately.

  • Patent number: 5771666
Abstract: A method of continuously wrapping products, whereby at least one seat for a respective product is fed continuously along a given path together with a respective retaining element for retaining a respective sheet of wrapping material, which is supplied in such a manner that a first portion is positioned over the seat, and a second portion is engaged by the retaining element; a product is inserted continuously inside the seat so as to fold at least the first portion of the sheet substantially in a U; and the retaining element is so moved as to fold at least part of the second portion of the sheet about the product.

  • Patent number: 4514181
Abstract: Apparatus for forming a flip top carton wherein the top of the carton has a front flap and side flaps, each having a lower section folded upon the body of the carton and a middle section folded on the lower section. The apparatus has a former associated with a conventional cartoning machine which projects into an erected tubular carton spreading the front and side flaps while inwardly pressing the top portion of the carton to fold the lower section on the top portion of the carton and the middle section on the lower section to form a collar. The apparatus further includes a glue station for applying glue to the internal surfaces of the overlying middle and lower sections. The apparatus further includes compression sections for pressing the lower and middle sections to which glue has been applied together to complete the formation of the collar.

  • Patent number: 4338082
Abstract: This relates to a drive system for selectively positioning a heat sealer and a cooler relative to mandrels supporting bags or pouches, which mandrels are carried by a turret and indexed thereby. A simple oscillating shaft driven by a cam oscillates a double ended lever which, in turn, serves to oscillate wedge shaped cam members so as to simultaneously actuate two sets of heat sealers and coolers with each heat sealer and cooler being carried by a separate support arm.
