Abstract: The apparatus forms fiberboard hollow ducts from fiberboard and comprises means for collapsing or partially collapsing the fiberboard into a flat collapsed fiberboard or partially collapsed fiberboard for advancing the collapsed or partially collapsed fiberboard through a preheating and heating stage while heat sensitive tape is applied to the linear seam of the advancing fiberboard. After tape is applied, means for applying pressure and cooling operate to permanently set the tape.
Abstract: Pieces of tube are produced from a flat flexible web by feeding the web intermittently into apparatus which first makes transverse incisions from each edge partly across the web at a spacing equal to the desired tube lengths. The side portions between the incisions are then folded along longitudinal fold lines so that their end edges overlap and are welded together. In a subsequent operation, the non-incised central flat portion of the web is severed in line with the incisions and the tube elements thus formed are then moved transversely to the direction of web movement by a reciprocating slide to stand upright on tube-shaping members.

Abstract: A folding apparatus for use on a cartoning machine which folds and secures the end flaps of a blank to form a carton including a pivoting rocker arm positioned adjacent to the path of said carton movement and a fold blade pivotedly attached to one end of said rocker arm which engages the flap and moves it into contact with the side of the carton. A device for manipulating said rocker arm is provided so that the fold blade will engage and disengage the flap and a yieldable means associated with said fold blade to apply a selected pressure to said flap with a roller assembly for engaging the fold blade and control the pressure applied by said yieldable means.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a reinforced half-slotted container in which each of the side walls is formed by outer side wall and a reinforcing panel which is the same size and height as the outer side wall. The reinforcing panel is attached to the outer side wall along a score line at the top of the outer side wall.In the method, either the two interior reinforcing panels or the two exterior reinforcing panels are adhered to their outer side walls and then the other two reinforcing panels are adhered to their outer side walls. The container is then formed in the normal manner to fasten the glue joint to the opposite side wall. The apparatus has a first forming station in which the interior reinforcing panels are glued, folded over and adhered to the outer side walls, and a second forming station in which the exterior reinforcing panels are glued, folded over and adhered to the outer side walls.
Abstract: A belt type box blank folding machine including bar folder assemblies on a downstream end thereof for engaging partially folded substantially upstanding outer panels on the blanks and folding them downward against inner panels of the blanks. The bar folders are arranged to pivot from an upright position, in engagement with the upstanding panels, to a horizontal position and to simultaneously reciprocate along the path of blank travel to provide maximum engagement with the outer panels during folding thereof. The bar folders are parallel with the fold line of the outer panels during folding thereby preventing twisting of the panels and locking of the leading flaps of the outer panels against the inner panels.
Abstract: A carton blank may be folded by folder blades supported on an adjustable plate positioned on one side of a chain which carries a clamp by which the carton blank is pulled through the machine. After folding, the blank is glued to complete a flat shell and the shell is then inverted; the clamp is articulated so the shell may be turned in a horizontal plane to align a datum line on the shell to a datum line on a cartoner machine.

Abstract: Apparatus for folding paperboard blanks, fed one by one in timed sequence into said apparatus and transported through it, includes helical blank contacting means rotatable in time with the transport means about a longitudinal axis extending generally in the direction of travel.
Abstract: A machine for folding the top flaps on a succession of boxes which are advanced on a conveyor belt. A shaft extends across the path of the boxes and has arms journaled on it for rotating and folding the trailing end flap of each box when the shaft is rotated. Torsion springs have one of their ends fastened to the shaft and another of their ends in driving contact relationship with the respective arms. When a box is in a position for one of its end flaps to be folded, limit switches are actuated in succession to cause an electrically operated clutch to turn the shaft one revolution so the arms swing around under the driving influence of the torsion springs and fold and hold the trailing top end flap until the box is advanced to the position where its end flaps are finally restrained by folding and holding its side flaps.
