  • Patent number: 9902517
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making a structurally resilient package having a substantially box-shaped configuration is disclosed. A pillow pouch package is received onto a flighted conveyor. The pillow pouch package has a first squared end and an angular end located opposite to the first squared end. The pillow pouch package is received so that the first squared end rests on the flighted conveyor. Thereafter the pillow pouch package is conditioned at least in part by tamping the angular end with a tamping plate. The angular end of the package is subsequently heat treated to form a second squared end. A set of cooling plates is then applied to the second squared end to set the final shape and form the structurally resilient package having a substantially box-shaped configuration.

Abstract: Flexible film packages having a partial, initial seal against ambient atmosphere and are easily openable and reclosable. The flexible film packages are generally resealable to extend the shelf-life or freshness of products contained therein once the package is initially opened. By one approach, the flexible film has two opposing edge portions that meet to form a longitudinal seal extending from a first end seal to a second end seal. The flexible film may have a score that defines a package opening. An elongated closure layer (14) may extend over the score and may extend from a first end seal (26) to a second end seal (28) and within the opposing edge portions that form the longitudinal seal (24). The elongated closure layer may have a tack-free gripping portion (40) used to release at least a portion of the elongated closure from the flexible film to form the package opening.

Abstract: A packaging container is provided. The packaging container includes one layer of shaped packaging material and has a pull tab to make an opening, for example, for a straw. The pull tab is built into the packaging material by the cutline and in the area of the pull tab, a closure film is connected to the inside of the packaging material. A connection area of the pull tab is connected to the closure film, so that by pulling on the pull tab in the connection area, the opening for the straw is created. The pull tab includes the packaging material itself and must not be separately connected to the container. With a penetration of the closure film, for example with a straw, this can be avoided.

Abstract: Methods for inserting a folded film into another folded film include combining the films without unfolding or folding either of the folded films. In particular, one or more implementations of a method of combining folded films involves directing a first folded film in a first direction and separating first and second halves of the first folded film. The method also involves directing a second folded film in a second direction generally perpendicular to the first direction. Additionally, the method involves inserting the second folded film between the first and second halves of the first folded film. Furthermore, the method involves redirecting the second folded film into the first direction while between the first and second halves of the first folded film.
