  • Publication number: 20110057069
Abstract: A paperboard core suitable for use in winding yarns may include strips of paperboard wrapped about an axis and secured together to form an elongate structure defining a winding surface. A coating of a polymer such as polyvinylidene chloride covers the winding surface. The coating may be applied to the strips of paperboard prior to winding and/or applied to the winding surface after winding. The coating may comprise multiple layers of the polymer, which may be cured individually. The coating may also be applied so as to create a substantially uninterrupted coating along the winding surface. One method of applying the coating is by roll-coating.

  • Patent number: 7618359
Abstract: A heat-insulating container is used for an instant dried food and is excellent in heat-insulating property, design and economy. The container comprises a paper cup body with a bottom, which has an inner surface coated with a polyolefin resin and is provided with an outward curled portion formed at an upper opening end of the cup body and at least one horizontal rib formed on a side wall of the cup body so as to project outward therefrom; and an inverse-frustoconical paper sleeve provided with an inward curled portion formed at a lower end of the sleeve. The cup body and the sleeve are integrally combined with each other so that an upper end of the sleeve is joined to an outer periphery of the side wall of the cup body, which is adjacent to the outward curled portion of the cup body, and an inner surface of the inward curled portion of the sleeve is joined to an outer periphery of a lower portion of the side wall of the cup body.

  • Patent number: 6996954
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for enwrapping a horizontally oriented product in a sleeve. A sleeve is formed by opening a flat tubular film and cutting a selected length of tubing. The sleeve is further opened in a forming tube to a cross sectional shape comparable with the cross sectional shape of the product. The forming tube is moved from a receiving position to a discharge position and the sleeve is moved in a horizontal plane to enclose the axially aligned product carried on a horizontally oriented conveyor.

  • Patent number: 6558306
Abstract: A multi-ply composite container for consumer products with at least one region of weakened strength and method for manufacturing same is provided. The composite container includes a multi-ply composite tube having a tubular body ply, a liner ply adhered to the inner surface of the tubular body ply and a label ply adhered to the outer surface of the body ply. The composite container also includes at least one circumferential score line in the multi-ply composite tube through the label ply and the body ply. The container and method overcome limitations imposed by conventional composite containers by providing a composite container which provides for easy opening, better consumer access, resealability, storage for left over food product, and easier consumer recycling.

  • Patent number: 6523331
Abstract: The invention relates to a machine for fitting sleeves of heat-shrink plastics material on objects, the sleeves being taken from a continuous sheath that is rolled flat. In the invention, a horizontal shaping mandrel (40) is provided that comprises two torpedoes (41, 42) in axial alignment and interconnected by a thread-like central element (43), the two torpedoes having facing ends (45, 46) each with a pair of smooth chamfers, and each torpedo resting freely on an associated V support (60). The sheath drive means comprises two adjacent pinch wheels (25, 26) disposed symmetrically on either side of the thread-like element (43) between the two V-supports (60) and passing in the vicinity of the pairs of smooth chamfers of the torpedoes (41, 42), each wheel (25, 26) having a peripheral groove (65, 66) that is complementary to the groove of the other wheel so as to form a horizontal axis passage for said thread-like element.

  • Patent number: 6523306
Abstract: The cylindrical container is made of paper and has a rim, a seam along the vertical dimension thereof and an overlap in that seam. The bottom end of the container has a twisted and flattened tuft of paper. A fold is provided around the rim. This fold encloses the overlap crosswise for retaining the shape of the container. The paper container is usable as a seedling pot. There is also provided a hand tool for manually forming these paper containers. This hand tool comprises a cylindrical body having a diameter, a closed end and an open end, and a handle mounted to the closed end. The hand tool also has a cavity extending inside the cylindrical body from the open end, where the tuft of paper is pushed in during the forming of the bottom end of the container. There is also provided a method for forming paper containers using the hand tool.
