Abstract: Methods of making laminated paper sheets include winding paper around a flat-sided mandrel to form a flat-sided convolute tube and cutting from the flat-sided convolute tube one or more laminated paper sheets. The laminated paper sheets are alternatives to plastic, wood, and wood-like materials, such as plywood, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and oriented strand board (OSB).

Abstract: A heat-insulating container is used for an instant dried food and is excellent in heat-insulating property, design and economy. The container comprises a paper cup body with a bottom, which has an inner surface coated with a polyolefin resin and is provided with an outward curled portion formed at an upper opening end of the cup body and at least one horizontal rib formed on a side wall of the cup body so as to project outward therefrom; and an inverse-frustoconical paper sleeve provided with an inward curled portion formed at a lower end of the sleeve. The cup body and the sleeve are integrally combined with each other so that an upper end of the sleeve is joined to an outer periphery of the side wall of the cup body, which is adjacent to the outward curled portion of the cup body, and an inner surface of the inward curled portion of the sleeve is joined to an outer periphery of a lower portion of the side wall of the cup body.
Abstract: In a method for the production of mailing bags, including envelopes, from material in web form, the material is processed in numerous ways and at least two separately prepared parts are transported to a joining station and there joined to one another with an adhesive. The two parts, at least one of which is already provided with the necessary adhesive, are placed one upon the other during an arcuate movement and joined to one another, in order to increase the speed of production. Particularly, at least one of the two parts (6, 7) and/or its carrier, performs an undulating movement in the region of the joining station (5).
Abstract: A multi-ply tubular container for products is provided having a first ply wrapped into a tubular shape and having an inner surface and a second ply wrapped into a tubular shape and having an outer surface positioned in face-to-face contact with the inner surface of the first ply. At least one of the first and second plies is a body ply formed of fibrous paperboard. A foamed adhesive is placed between the inner surface of the first ply and the outer surface of the second ply. The foamed adhesive reduces moisture contact with the paperboard body ply and results in increased container strength and lower manufacturing costs. The foamed adhesive is preferably a foamed aqueous adhesive. The foamed adhesive may be a substantially pure resin adhesive or a mixture of a resin and at least one filler. The two plies may comprise a paperboard body ply and a liner ply adhered together using a foamed adhesive placed therebetween.
Abstract: The moisture content of a base paper for manufacturing a paper tube is controlled to a predetermined value. Water-soluble adhesive is applied to a side of the base paper in such a small amount as to cause the adhesive to ridge on the side of the base paper, and the ridging adhesive is uniformly smoothed over the side of the base paper. The base paper is wound into a tube.
Abstract: In a spiral tube winder, the plies going to the winding mechanism are monitored to make sure that no ply is broken. If any ply breaks, the machine is stopped so that the broken ply does not become entangled in the apparatus, especially in the glue applying portion of the apparatus. The ply break detection system is automatically activated for each ply lane that is in use so that plies can be added while the machine is in operation, with the result that the ply break protection for each such added ply comes on automatically after that ply has been added.
Abstract: One or more tapes being pulled toward the mandrel of a tube winding machine are tensioned by passing them over vacuum chambers. Glue is applied to one or more tapes adjacent the vacuum chambers. If the tube winding machine stops for any reason, the vacuum chambers keep the tapes to which glue is applied taut, and those tapes are moved out of contact with the glue applying member. The length of each tape which is in contact with the glue applying member can be adjusted to adjust the amount of glue applied to the tape. Heat can be applied to each tape after glue has been applied in order to promote curing of the glue.

Abstract: Process and apparatus for the manufacture of a valved sack with a self-sealing valve in which at the end of a transporting device for an open web of the sack material, shortly before the sack material is fed into a tube-forming zone, a valve-manufacturing unit is located, preferably above the material web path, in which unit valves are produced from a stock reel of paper and fed in a positioned manner to the open sack web, which has been pre-glued into fine zones. The pre-fabricated paper valves are then brought in contact with the pre-glued open sack web and the valve sleeve is securely glued into the sack in a gluing zone within the apparatus.
Abstract: In a machine for forming a continuous tube which is then cut up into sections, for example to make containers, a plurality of bands of fibrous, cellulosic, metallic, plastic or other material are drawn from supply reels and pass through a gluing and labelling section where adhesive is applied to one side of the bands and labels are applied to the outer face of the center band. After application of the adhesive and labels, the bands, while continuing to move forwardly, are assembled in superposed relation with the bands laterally displaced relative to one another so that the edges of the assembly of bands are stepped. The bands are pressed together in a narrow central width only so as to bond central portions together while leaving side portions unbonded.
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for producing a cigarette filter unit, in which filter elements are disposed on a porous or perforated covering strip and at least partially wrapped thereby and adhesively joined. The adhesive substance is applied to the covering strip along coating tracks which are at least approximately equidistant from each other and extended at an angle to the longitudinal orientation of the covering strip. The filter strand formed in this manner is subdivided by a cutting device.
