Folding Along Score Line Patents (Class 493/399)
  • Patent number: 4526567
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for manufacturing a pair of paper stringer tapes for slide fasteners from a pair of blank paper strips of a continuous length. The blank paper strips are fed lengthwise through a guide roller assembly. A pair of parallel spaced scoring wheels is biased against one guide roller of the guide roller assembly. As the paper strips pass between the one guide roller and the respective scoring wheels, a pair of continuous prospective folding lines of a constant depth is formed on the blank paper strips along the respective inner longitudinal margin thereof. The inner longitudinal margin of each paper strip is folded on the folding line to provide a doubled thickness with a folded edge on which a row of thermoplastic coupling elements is to be mounted. The support of the scoring wheels enables them to move toward and away from the strip, either jointly or individually, to compensate for variations in paper thickness, whereby said constant depth is maintained.

  • Patent number: 4524962
Abstract: Prefold, web scoring apparatus for signature folding machines or the like comprises mating first and second web scoring rollers, each scoring roller having alternating scoring blade and resilient roller portions. The scoring rollers are mounted, preferably on existing, rotatably driven nip roll shafts, upstream of a first web folding stage in which the web is cut into sheets and the sheets are transversely folded, the folded sheets being fed therefrom to a second web folding stage for folding at right angles to the first stage fold. Arc lengths of each of the scoring roller blade and resilient roller portions is equal in length to the second stage fold line. The scoring rollers, between which the web is advanced, are positioned and oriented on their mounting shafts so as to score the web in alternating directions corresponding to the direction of folding of each paper layer in the second folding stage.

  • Patent number: 4493688
Abstract: Improved apparatus for producing continuous form stationery by creasing a strip of paper along lines of weakening formed therein. The apparatus includes a frame, a distributing mechanism mounted on the frame for alternately distributing successive lines of weakening in the paper in substantially opposite directions, dispensing rollers mounted on the frame for drawing the paper from a supply thereof and dispensing the paper into the distributing mechanism, mechanisms carried by the frame for urging the distributed paper into a creased condition, and a conveyor for receiving and transporting the creased paper. The improvement consists of a system for removably securing the paper supply in position to dispense paper during the operation of the paper processing apparatus. The improved paper securing system includes a carriage movably carried by the frame and moved between two operative positions by a linkage assembly.

  • Patent number: 4437850
Abstract: A process of manufacturing of corrugated cardboard type packaging container in which a corrugated core liner adhered at its one side surface to one side liner is applied at its other side surface with an adhesive agent and then with a reinforcing agent and thereafter is adhered to the other side liner to form reinforced corrugated cardboard, and before completion of hardening of the reinforcing agent scored lines are formed in the reinforced region of the reinforced corrugated cardboard for forming a packaging container.

  • Patent number: 4431214
Abstract: The disclosed device comprises a pair of hingedly connected pocket formations receiving data cards which are derived by folding and connecting a plurality of initially integral panels, the panels being formed by cutting and scoring a blank of paperboard of relatively light gauge, and thereafter being folded and secured so as to provide the hingedly connected pocket formations in each of which an end panel of the blank forming the data card is confined and is accessible through an open end so as to enable it to be torn loose and to be moved to different positions in the pocket thereby enabling data imprinted thereon to be viewed through window openings in a wall forming panel on which related data may be imprinted.

  • Patent number: 4416652
Abstract: For the purpose of helping in the making of a second lengthways fold in a web of paper in a folder having a folder blade for producing this fold, the paper is firstly scored at the desired fold position in the long direction by a sharp-edged wheel pushing the paper against a turning back-up part, which is let into the face of one of the nipper or guiding rolls of the folder. The wheel with the sharp edge is placed on the other, opposite roll between separate roll parts or wheels thereon gripping the web against the other roll.

  • Patent number: 4410316
Abstract: A method for the production of corrugated paper comprising the steps of feeding a continuous sheet of paper over a first arcuate roller, making several folds in the paper along lines of radius of the first arcuate roller, passing the paper over a second arcuate roller which has the same center of curvature as the first arcuate roller, and unfolding the paper folds to yield the corrugated paper. The paper preferably turns about 90.degree. in passing over the first and second arcuate rollers, and after being unfolded there is provided additional corrugations by use of crimping rollers or the like.

  • Patent number: 4370803
Abstract: A method for forming lead-acid storage battery separator envelopes from a continuous roll of separator material of the type having ribs thereon. The method comprises withdrawing the separator material from the roll and clamping the withdrawn separator material along the length thereof to crush and deform the separator material ribs and produce two creases across the width thereof. The creases are spaced from each other approximately the thickness of a pasted battery plate. The clamping is released and the edge of a plate narrower in width than the separator material is introduced into contact with the separator material at the crushed and deformed portion thereof between the spaced creases. Thereafter the withdrawn separator material is folded along the length of the plate, so that the material overlaps the edges of said plate. Finally, the overlapped edges are sealed to each other.
