  • Cot
    Patent number: 5490292
Abstract: A one piece rotationally molded cot for toddlers and other individuals includes a recessed sleeping surface supported above a raised bottom wall by a plurality of upwardly extending pillars. A closed dead air space between the bottom wall and sleeping surface and an additional air space beneath the bottom wall and above the room floor provide insulation for warmth. The cots nest in stacked relation for storage in minimum space. Dollies configured for conforming engagement beneath head and foot ends of the cots include swivel casters to facilitate transportation. Accessory items for use with the cot include a foam pad receivable in a fabric pad cover, a mattress, and a sheet. Cooperating VELCRO (.TM.) fasteners secure the cover to the cot and the sheet to the mattress.

  • Patent number: 5469589
Abstract: A bed foundation comprises a pair of parallel spaced side rails with ends connected by corner braces to the ends of parallel, spaced cross rails thereby defining a rectangular box frame. Upwardly facing edges of the cross rails and side rails lie in a common plane. A pair of generally planar top panels are positioned on the frame with their peripheral edges flush with the outer edges of the frame. The corner braces extend above the plane defined by the upwardly facing edges of the rails providing lips which cooperate with corners of the panels to retain the panels immovable on the frame. A third panel may be positioned between the pair of panels and a clip engages both an edge of the third panel and the upwardly facing edge of a cross rail to retain the third panel immovable relative to the frame.

  • Patent number: 5291624
Abstract: A frame for a waterbed has a lower portion of each rail formed of wood or other generally rigid material, and an upper portion formed of foamed plastic or other padding material. The lower portion provides the strength to withstand the outward forces of the water mattress, while the padding of the upper portion provides comfort for sleeping or sitting on the edge of the bed. The bottom of the rails have a flange fixed thereto. The lower portions of the rails, at their ends, have alignment devices to align the rails, and clamps fixed to the flanges fix rails together so the rails are easy to assemble into a complete frame.

The flanges may be fixed to the bottom surface of the beam making up the rail, or may be received within a groove parallel to the bottom surface of the beam. The flanges provide a wider rail area to prevent the rails from falling off the deck, the weight of the mattress on the flanges tends to hold the frame stationary with respect to the deck, and the flanges provide sufficient strength to prevent bowing of the side rails from the outward force exerted by the water mattress. All four of the rails may include flanges if desired.

  • Patent number: 5182824
Abstract: A wrestling bed provides a defined and restricted area for childrens's vigorous activities, thus serving to protect other articles from accidental damage due to such vigorous play. The wrestling bed is solidly constructed in order to resist damage from active play, which might damage standard bed frames. The wrestling bed includes a platform sized to provide a central area fitting a mattress of standard configuration and includes peripheral tread pads, corner posts and padding, peripheral ropes, and steps at one side of the platform. The wrestling bed has the general appearance of a wrestling or boxing ring, thereby lending some realism to children's wrestling or play therein, while providing copious padding and protection for children playing therein. The mattress, although substantially softer and more resilient than a real wrestling ring surface, provides greater protection and further doubles as a standard bedding mattress.

The two magnet-supporting sheets are secured to one another by blocks of low-density polymeric foam material disposed between the sheets. The weight of a sleeper is supported by magnetic repulsive force, and the two sheets are held in alignment with one another by the foam blocks. Contact of the upper sheet with walls or support structure of a sleeper cab is prevented, thus isolating the top of the structure from vibration.

Abstract: A novel, safer crib structure is provided herein. This invention provides a crib in which the mattress can be selectively supported at two different heights with respect to the sides of the crib. In one embodiment, the mattress support is a sheet of plywood securely held in a groove in each of the facing end gables. A fixed height back wall is hinged to the end gables. The front wall is a drop side wall vertically slidably secured to the end gables. To change the height of the mattress, the drop side front wall is slidably removed, the sheet of plywood is slid out of one groove and slid into another groove, and the dropside front wall is again slidably secured to the end gables. In a preferred embodiment, a single groove is used to retain the mattress support, but the end gables are affixed to the back wall in such way that one gable is higher than the other gable. Wheels or castors are provided under the shorter gable to provide a level orientation.

Abstract: Deck construction for a floatation sleep system which gives the deck a high quality finished appearance and facilitates transportation and set up thereof. The deck includes a plurality of rigid members. Such members are separately encased as a unit, hingeable between the members. Several units may be secured together in a planar relationship to have an overall dimensional surface area substantially equal to the surface area of a particular size fluid-filled bladder. The encasing for the rigid members is of a decorative nature to enhance the appearance of the deck.

Abstract: Waterbed frames for supporting and confining a bladder-type mattress having a head panel, a foot panel and a pair of side panels are improved to assist persons reclining in the bed to get out of the bed by providing at least one side panel with a section that can be lowered relative to the remainder of the panel creating an exit area along the side of the frame within which there is no obstruction against egress above the upper level of the mattress. To leave the bed, the person lowers the side panel section and passes through the resulting opened exit area.

  • Patent number: 4675929
Abstract: A pedestal for a floatation sleep surface, such pedestal being collapsable into a compact arrangement for convenient storage and ready transportation in a manually manipulable container. The pedestal comprises a plurality of generally rectangular members, a plurality of support legs, and connectors, all adapted to be stored in a manually transportable container. The members include locators at preselected positions for locating support legs. When the support legs are attached to the locators of the rectangular members, the rectangular members are interconnected by the connectors to form a unitary pedestal arrangement of a size sufficient to support a particular size floatation sleep surface.

  • Patent number: 4675928
Abstract: A universal, convertible, padded end cap for a water bed railing permits the joining of a supplementary end rail to any of a number of available padded water bed side rail designs providing in each case a smooth, decorative, functional corner joint and seal. This cap has significant strength for retaining the rails in a rigidly locked position relative to one another during use of the bed, resisting the forces imposed by persons climbing into and out of the bed across the padded rails; it also provides a decorative and pleasing appearance, matching that of the end rails used. The cap, which is included with the padded end rail in construction, is a mitered, sewn fabric extension from a padded end rail, being designed to match in appearance the end rail the side rails being sealed to the side rails by using a series of sequence of fasteners, which, together with the overall cut of the convertible cap, creates a tight, secure, yet flexible continuous corner joint between the side and end rails.

  • Patent number: 4617689
Abstract: A knockdown platform or storage bed employs single or double rows of U-shaped channel members to join laterally opposed sideboards, through a detachable coupling at opposed ends of the channel members, to receivers fixed to the inside of the sideboards at longitudinally spaced positions and at both ends. The channel members are provided with C-shaped slots to each side slidably receiving insertable panels to form with the channel members a planar mattress support. The sideboards act in conjunction with endboards to define via a sideboard ladder frame and through other U-shaped channel members, a support system for drawers slidably insertable through the open ladder frame, to create a storage bed. The panels are sized to the slidably insertable drawers to function as covers, overlying the drawers when the drawers are removed. The couplings include pivotable, overcenter latches mounted to the interior of the U-shaped channel members at their ends.
