Abstract: The present invention relates to a metal treatment composition including Tin (II) Chloride and processed montmorillonite clay. The addition of Tin (II) Chloride to the composition provides Tin for forming a ceramic-metal layer on the surfaces of the friction pair. Tin (II) Chloride provides Chlorine ions for forming Chloric films for protecting juvenile surfaces which form in the friction zone. The clay is heated and pulverized to produce a powder comprising both particles having crystalline layer structure and salts and oxides. The layered crystalline structure of the clay contains slip planes that transversely shift when tangential pressure from the friction pair is applied thereby lubricating the friction pair. The salts and oxides contribute to the formation of the ceramic-metal layer.

Cakes of clay and contaminants remain in the filters, while the oil emerges without the contaminants. A second embodiment (for removing ash or soot, very fine carbon particles and other organic compounds from used motor oils) is the same as the first embodiment, except that before the mixture is passed through the filters, a centrifuge is used to remove most of the clay contaminated with soot, so that it will not block the filters.

Abstract: A lubricant for a run-flat tire system includes a water soluble, or water-miscible carrier, a thickener, and a surfactant. The thickener hereof retains its rheological properties and is not subject to permanent thinning shear. The base fluid is, preferably, a water-soluble polyhydroxyl or other polyhydric compound and the thickener is preferably a clay. When admixed with a surfactant and, optionally, a lubricity agent, the lubricant exhibits long term stability and (is resistant to heat buildup.) prevents the buildup of heat in the tire assembly when the tire is in the run flat condition.

Abstract: Disclosed is a lubricating composition such as a lubricant, a lubricating grease, or a rust preventive oil for use in a torque limiter and a ball-and-roller bearing; the lubricating composition having chemical attack resistance for a synthetic resin molded product. The lubricating composition comprises as a base oil at least one synthetic saturated hydrocarbon oil selected from the group consisting of a poly-&agr;-olefin, and an ethylene-&agr;-olefin copolymer. When a phosphoric acid ester is used as a compounding agent, or at lease one lubricating grease selected from the group consisting of an urea compound, silica powder, and bentonite powder is mixed therein, the lubricating composition is a rust preventive oil using a metal salt of sulfonic acid and the like. The lubricating composition is suitably used for machine parts of a business machine including the synthetic resin molded product.

  • Patent number: 6670310
Abstract: A high performance lubricant to extend the life of tooling to punch holes and shear metals especially thick steel members. The lubricant, due to its modified viscosity, remains on the tool during the process allowing it to provide the necessary coating to reduce the friction developed. Most punching processes mount the tool vertical and the work is held below the tool. Lubricant is applied to the tool prior to punching. A problem with lubricants presently used is the viscosity is so low the lubricant runs off the tool prior to the punching process rendering the lubricant ineffective. The thixotropic index of the lubricant is controlled by addition of fumed silica to provide the proper viscosity to keep the lubricant on the tool and then during the punching process the viscosity is reduced sufficiently by the shear energy applied between the tool and work to allow the lubricant to flow in the shear area thereby providing maximum lubrication between the tool and the work.
