In one embodiment, the thiophosphorus acid ester is a thiophosphorus acid ester represented by the following formula ##STR1## wherein X.sub.1, X.sub.2, and X.sub.3 are oxygen or sulfur, provided that at least one of X.sub.1, X.sub.2, and X.sub.3 is sulfur; R.sub.1 is a hydrocarbyl group; R.sub.2 is an alkylene group; R.sub.3 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group; x is a number from 1 to about 40; and a is 0, 1, or 2, or at least one salt of the thiophosphorus acid ester.

  • Patent number: 5556569
Abstract: Organic compounds having at least one hydrocarbyl group and a polar group containing at least one nitrogen, oxygen, or sulfur atom, being free from acidic hydrogen atoms and from functional groups which provide such organic compounds with acidic hydrogen atoms upon hydrolysis, can be overbased by treatment with an metallic base and a low molecular weight acid, to provide useful lubricant additives.

  • Patent number: 5538651
Abstract: A composition comprising (A) an ethylene-alpha olefin-bicyclic non-conjugated diene copolymer, wherein the alpha olefin contains from 3 to about 24 carbon atoms; (B) at least one organic sulfur containing compound selected from the group consisting of mercaptans and disulfides; and (C) a major amount of diluent; wherein the sulfur-containing compound (B) is present in amounts ranging from about 0.1% to about 15% by weight relative to the weight of the copolymer (A). This invention also relates to a method of shearing a composition comprising (A) an ethylene-alpha olefin-bicyclic non-conjugated diene copolymer and (C) a diluent, the improvement which comprises reducing or preventing the formation of gel-like particles on shearing by intimately mixing with said copolymer prior to shearing an amount of (B) an organic sulfur containing compound selected from the group consisting of mercaptans and disulfides in an amount sufficient to inhibit formation of said gel-like particles.
