Abstract: A deodorant soap or detergent composition comprising a surfactant, e.g., a soap or synthetic detergent, and either 1) minor but effective amounts in uncomplexed form of a water-insoluble zinc compound, e.g., zinc oxide, and a water-soluble zinc-complexing polyamine which is a polyalkyleneamine or a basic aminoacid polymer; or 2) a water-soluble complex of said water-insoluble zinc compound and said water-soluble zinc-complexing polyamine.

Abstract: Liquid formulations of 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one, and methods for making such formulations, are disclosed. Formulations according to the invention contain about 1 to 25 percent by weight 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one, about 3 to 7 percent by weight of sodium hydroxide, about 3 to 63 percent by weight of water and about 20 to 65 percent by weight of one or more polyglycol triols having the formula: ##STR1## wherein nx, ny and nz are individually selected from the group consisting of 2 and 3, and, when nx, ny and nz are each equal to 2, X+Y+Z has a value equal to or less than about 13.2, and, when nx, ny and nz are each equal to 3, X+Y+Z has a value equal to or less than about 4.45. Formulations exhibiting improved low temperature stability are also prepared by blending of specified co-solvents.
Abstract: A liquid skin cleansing composition comprises (1) mild surfactant systems; (2) 0.1 to 10% by wt. of a compound or compounds which buffer the pH of the composition; and (3) 1% to 99% water to potentiate the bactericidal activity. In a second embodiment of the invention, the buffering compound or compounds potentiates antibacterial effect in compositions already containing an antibacterial agent.

Abstract: A stable, aqueous, glutaraldehyde solution comprising:an aqueous solution of glutaraldehyde;a non-ionic detergent;sodium acetate; andsufficient of a pH modifier to bring the pH of the solution to 6 to 8.5 is provided.The solution does not require an activator prior to use and is not a skin irritant. It is also stable for a period of up to 6 months at temperatures of 25.degree. C. when undiluted. When diluted further with water to differing concentrations, it is suitable for use as a sterilising, cleaning, disinfecting, antiseptic, subcutaneously injectable or preservative end use composition. These diluted compositions are stable for a period of up to 12 months and also require no activation prior to use.

Abstract: A cleansing composition includes a substituted phenol such as para-chloro-meta-xylenol, and at least one primary surfactant selected from the group consisting of amine oxides, phospholipids, partially neutralized carboxylic acids and diacids, betaines, ethoxylated methyglucosides, and mixtures thereof. The composition is devoid of conventional anionic and nonionic surfactants. Other additives such as viscosifiers or thickeners, emollients, fragrances, perfumes, coloring agents, and the like may also be added. The cleansing composition has been found to exhibit improved antibacterial properties while remaining mild on the skin.

Abstract: Insect repellent compositions are provided comprising mixtures of:(a) from about 5 to about 95%, by weight, of an N-alkyl neoalkanamide having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are alkyl groups and the sum of the carbon atoms therein is from 6 to 12, and wherein R.sub.4 is either a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having one to two carbon atoms, and wherein R.sub.5 is methyl, ethyl, or propyl; and(b) from about 5 to about 95%, by weight, of N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET).Preferred repellent composition comprise mixtures of N-methyl neodecanamide (MNDA) and DEET which provide synergistic repellency effects against a variety of insects including cockroaches, silverfish, mosquitoes, flies and ants. The repellent compositions may be applied directly to surfaces to be treated or they may be incorporated in detergent compositions such as laundry detergents, floor and wall cleaners, rug cleaners and shampoos, hair shampoos and liquid and bar soaps.

Abstract: The invention concerns the discovery of the surprising and unexpected therapeutic effects of hydroxyl ions. The observed medicinal properties of these ions are both novel and broad in scope. Abstract: By reacting 1-5.5M nitric acid with from 45 to 170 mmol of primary C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 -alkanol per l of nitric acid, an improved preparation is obtained for the local treatment of changes in skin and mucous membrane and of infections of the skin and mucous membrane. The preparation comprises 1-5.5M nitric acid, not more than 170 mmol of C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 -alkanoic acid per l of solution, and nitrate reduction products in a concentration corresponding to from 0.1 to 6 mg of nitrite per ml of solution. The preparation is notable for a good activity and a low risk of side effects.

Abstract: A perfume composition contains at least 50% by weight of materials which fall into five categories defined by structure, and molecular weight. Abstract: A detergent composition is disclosed. The composition comprises polymer particles having an average particle size of 50-500 .mu.m in 5% by weight sodium chloride aqueous solution and a modulus of elasticity of 1.times.10.sup.3 -5.times.10.sup.5 dyne/cm.sup.2 in said sodium chloride aqueous solution. It exhibits a superior physical or mechanical washing performance, and gives remarkably reduced irritation and minimal damage to the object being washed. When a germicide is incorporated in addition to the polymer particles, its sterilization effect is greatly enhanced.
