Abstract: A long lasting, esthetically pleasing medicated skin care moisturizing composition comprising(1) an oil phase comprising oil from about 30% to about 80% and a non-ionic surface active agent having an HLB number of about 7 to about 12, wherein the non-ionic surface active agent is present in an amount of about 5% to about 9%;(2) an aqueous phase comprising an aqueous thickening agent from about 0.05% to about 5% and water from about 15% to about 65%;(3) an effective amount of a topical medicament; wherein the oil phase is added to the aqueous phase to form an emulsion and a topical medicament admixed into the emulsion has been developed.The method of preparation of the composition and a method of treating skin with the composition are also disclosed.

Abstract: A process for stabilizing a specific UVB absorbing compound which comprises adding to said UVB absorbing compound at least one specific UVA absorbing compound in an amount of 0.1-10 parts by weight based on 1 part by weight of UVB absorbing compound is disclosed and also a cosmetic composition and a UV absorber, both containing said specific UVB absorbing compound and said specific UVA absorbing compound, respectively.

Abstract: Nitrogen-free thickeners in aqueous surfactant solutions comprising polyethoxylates of mono- and/or polyunsaturated C.sub.12 -C.sub.22 fatty alcohols having an average degree of ethoxylation of 2 to 5, which also contain 1 to 2 terminal propylene oxide groups attached by condensation instead of the corresponding number of ethylene oxide groups. The products may also be used in admixture with dissolved inorganic electroltye salts and with polyethoxylates of saturated fatty alcohols. These surfactant solutions are useful in the formulation of personal hygiene preparations such as hair shampoos, foam baths, shower baths, handwashing pastes and the like.

Abstract: A cosmetic foundation makeup composition comprising a liquid oil-in-water emulsion which comprises, in weight %,(a) about 0.1 to 15% of particulate talc,(b) about 0.1 to 15% of particulate nylon,(c) about 0.1 to 15% of a high molecular weight silicone oil,(d) about 0.1 to 20% of a low molecular weight silicone oil,(e) about 0.1 to 5% of sodium hyaluronate, and(f) the balance, to 100%, of water.

Abstract: A skin moisturizing lotion produced by blending specific quantities of peanut oil, rose water, olive oil, anhydrous lanolin, and natural lemon oil. The ingredients are blended to a fluid texture and applied to the skin in quantities as desired by the user. The product contains no alcohol, emulsifiers or preservatives. It may be stored at temperatures ranging from about 55.degree. to 90.degree. F. and, preferably 59.degree. to 86.degree. F.

Abstract: External preparations comprising, as active ingredients, kojic acid or a derivative thereof which also contain an ultraviolet absorber, .beta.-cyclodextrin and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and have a controlled pH in the range from 4.0 to 5.0 show little discoloration during storage. In addition, discoloration of the preparation applied to the skin due to ultraviolet rays and other causes is also minimized, thus eliminating the trouble of contaminating clothes and other surrounding objects.

The composition has the improved effects of inhibiting the formation of erythema and pigmentation caused by exposure to ultraviolet rays, preventing stains or freckles due to sunburn and preventing coloration after application, thus providing excellent compositions for external application as cosmetics, topical skin agents, etc.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing a W/O/W type multiple emulsion using a polyglycerol polyricinolate (i.e. a polyglycerol ester of a polycondensed fatty acid of castor oil).The use of the polyglycerol polyricinolate is effective in increasing the rate of formation of the W/O/W type multiple emulsion remarkably and giving a W/O/W type multiple emulsion which is stable over a long period of time. The W/O/W type multiple emulsion has also an excellent heat stability and is useful for the production of medicines and cosmetics.

Abstract: A novel cosmetic comprises an oil gel formed by at least one metal salt of a dialkyl phosphate of the following general formula (I), (II) or (III) ##STR1## in which each R.sub.1 and each R.sub.2 independently represent a saturated or unsaturated, linear or branched hydrocarbon group having from 8 to 36 carbon atoms, m is an integer of from 1 to 3, n is an integer of from 0 to 2, k is a value of 1 or 2, and 1 is a value of 0 to 1, and a cosmetic oil.The metal salt of the dialkyl phosphate can yield a good oil gel when it is incorporated into the oil in an amount as small as 0.1 to 10% of the oil. Further, the dialkyl phosphate retains good feel of oils without causing oozing of the oil, crazing, discoloration, perspiration and the like.

Abstract: A wrinkle treatment formulation is provided which is in the form of a gel formed of at least 95% by weight of a gelable hydrophilic polyurethane polymer base and a precipitated silica thickener gelling agent. Abstract: A lamella type, single phase liquid crystal composition is prepared from a hydrophilic nonionic surfactant, a water-soluble substance having a hydroxyl group in a molecule thereof, an oil substance, and water.Oil-base cosmetic compositions including cleansing compositions, massage creams or drugs for external application are incorporated with the liquid crystal.The compositions are readily washed off simply by water, and exhibit good properties of non-stickiness and long storage stability.

Abstract: A film-forming cosmetic composition useful as a facial pack, nail enamel, eye liner etc., which comprises a copolymer of vinyl alcohol and alkyl vinyl ether, being referred to simply as PVA/AVE, consisting of 98 to 80 mole % of vinyl alcohol monomer units and 2 to 20 mole % of linear or branched alkyl vinyl monomer units having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms. The molar ratio of the vinyl alcohol monomer units to the alkyl vinyl ether monomer units is in the range of from 95/5 to 85/15. The PVA/AVE according to the invention has no acetic groups with ester bonds in a molecule. Instead, there are alkyl or alkenyl groups having ether bonds which serve for steric hindrance for preventing gelation of an aqueous solution of such copolymer. From this reason, the PVA/AVE does not undergo any hydrolysis as time passes and is thus excellent in storage stability.

Abstract: A composition for application to the skin to protect the skin from the long wavelength ultraviolet ray comprises a dibenzoylmethane derivative of the following general formula ##STR1## in which X represents a hydrogen atom, a monovalent metal cation, an organic cation, a linear or branched alkyl group having from 1 to 24 carbon atoms, or a polyoxyalkylene oxide having 2 or 3 carbon atoms, Y and Z each independently represent a hydroxyl group, a linear or branched alkyl group having from 1 to 24 carbon atoms, or an alkoxy group having from 1 to 24 carbon atoms, or a polyoxyalkylene oxide group having from 2 to 3 carbon atoms, and m and n are independently an integer of from 0 to 3.The composition is adjustable so as to have an optimum HLB balance and has good compatibility with various cosmetic bases. Further, it does not irritate the skin, is difficult to be percutaneously absorbed and shows continued skin-protecting effects.

Abstract: An esterified propoxylated methyl glucoside composition is prepared by reacting a propoxylated methyl glucoside with a fatty acid at an elevated temperature in the presence of an acid catalyst. The esterified propoxylated methyl glucoside compositions find use as skin moisturizers and emollients which are especially suitable in skin care formulations.

Abstract: The invention relates to non-ionic surface-active agents which correspond to the formula ##STR1## in which R denotes a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated aliphatic radical containing 4 to 20 carbon atoms, R.sub.1 denotes (1) a, preferably linear, alkyl radical, (2) a linear or branched alkoxymethyl radical or (3) an alkenyloxymethyl radical, the alkyl or alkenyl parts of these radicals containing from 4 to 20 carbon atoms,and Z denotes a polyether linkage corresponding to the formula ##STR2## in which n denotes an average statistical value of 2 to 20 and A denotes (a) the group OH,(b) the group ##STR3## in which u denotes 0 or 1, or (c) the group ##STR4## in which u dentoes 0 or 1, the radicals R and R.sub.1 containing a total of 12 to 38 carbon atoms, as well as to the derivatives of the above compounds which result from the reaction of ethylene oxide or glycidol with the OH groups.

Abstract: A cosmetic preparation contains, as a fatty phase, karite oil having the following characteristics: palmitic acid (C.sub.16), 3-5 percent; stearic acid (C.sub.18), 22-30 percent; oleic acid (C.sub.18:1), 55-65 percent; linoleic acid (C.sub.18:2), 0.5-1.5 percent; and arachidic acid (C.sub.20), 0.5-1.5 percent, said percentages being based on the total weight of fatty acid present in said karite oil, a viscosity of 100-300 centipoises, a melting point of 5.1.degree.-5.4.degree. C., a crystallization temperature of 2.9.degree.-3.degree. C. and an unsaponifiable content of 1.2-1.5 percent.

The composition comprises a suitable dye precursor, peroxidase and H.sub.2 O.sub.2. These ingredients, when reacted together on the skin, result in the formation of melanin-like dyes which tan the skin.

Abstract: An improved high-internal-phase emulsion having increased stability under conditions of long term storage at elevated temperatures and freeze-thaw conditions, methods for preparing and stabilizing said emulsions and cosmetic preparations based thereon are disclosed. The improvement comprises incorporating into said emulsion an amount sufficient to increase the stability of said emulsion of an electrolyte contained in the aqueous phase of the emulsion.

Abstract: Cosmetic and skin treatment compositions are provided which include as emollients acetylated soy bean derived sterols, namely, acetylated sitosterol, acetylated campesterol, and/or acetylated stigmasterol. The above-acetylated sterols impart improved hand feel and barrier properties to the compositions, are naturally compatible with skin and have improved skin penetration properties over unesterified sterols.

Abstract: New cationic polydiorganosiloxanes are disclosed that are substantive to proteinaceous substrates. These cationic polydiorganosiloxanes have methyl substituents, and diaminoalkyl substituents reacted with benzyl chloride. These cationic polydiorganosiloxanes are easily emulsified and are useful for treating human hair, human skin, and animal fur.
