  • Patent number: 8529970
Abstract: Materials with high levels of unsaponifiable matter, such as extracts from plants, produce hydrolysates with unique properties. Properties that are sought in traditional saponification of natural oils are a result of low levels of unsaponifiables. These properties include high levels of aqueous surfactant activity, water-solubility or ready water-dispersability, activity as foaming agents, and the like. An objective of traditional saponification processes is to increase the water-solubility and surfactant activity of naturally occurring materials. It has been found that the application of a hydrolysis process to materials, particularly materials with a high level of unsaponifiables (e.g., at least 6 weight percent of the material), produces a product with properties significantly different from those products resulting from the conventional saponification of materials with less than 6 weight percent of unsaponifiables.

  • Patent number: 7402323
Abstract: A skin treatment composition containing ionic calcium and a dermatologically acceptable water-soluble, water-miscible or water-based carrier is provided for treating a skin condition in a mammal, such as dry skin, dry scalp, a burn, sunburn, irritation or minor wound. The ionic calcium is preferably present as the water soluble calcium glycerophosphate salt. The composition may be present in a formulation such as bar soap, liquid soap, bath, lotion, cream, gel, or ointment, and may also be useful for stimulating more youthful skin cells and for improving the appearance of the skin. Methods for treating skin conditions and for accelerating cellular repair include topically applying to the skin an effective amount of ionic calcium, preferably as calcium glycerophosphate, and an ?-hydroxy acid such as lactic acid.

  • Patent number: 7291323
Abstract: The invention is directed to compositions that provide outstanding lubrication and conditioning to fibers. Key to the invention is the realization that the there must be (a) an alkoxylated silicone compound, and (b) a specific mono functional ester made from a capped polyoxyalkylene glycol compound. Combinations of these two specific materials properly chosen will result in lubricating and conditioning compositions that are effective and highly efficacious.

  • Patent number: 7255870
Abstract: A composition containing an aqueous phase dispersed in an oily phase, at least one emulsifier with an HLB value ranging from 1 to 8, at least one organic powder, and, in the oily phase at least one semicrystalline polymer with organic structure that is solid at room temperature and that has a melting point of less than 70° C., the said polymer comprising a) a polymer skeleton and b) at least one crystallizable organic side chain and/or at least one crystallizable organic sequence forming part of the said polymer skeleton, the polymer having a number-average molecular weight of greater than 2,000. This composition can especially constitute a cosmetic cream, having a very pleasant texture when applied to the skin, or a stick, especially a makeup-removing stick.
