  • Patent number: 6591562
Abstract: A mullion connector connects a mullion to a building structure, the mullion connector having a first flange and a second flange in a plane generally perpendicular to the first flange with a first flange having a first fastener opening capable of allowing relative motion of the mullion connector relative to the mullion in at least one direction and a second flange having an second fastener opening capable of allowing relative motion of the mullion connector relative to the building in at least two generally perpendicular directions. By placing the second flange on a generally horizontal surface such as a building floor, and loosely fastening the second flange through the second fastener opening to a building anchor, the first flange opening may be attached to the mullion allowing up and down and rotational motion while the second flange opening allows in & out and left to right motion while supporting the mullion.

Abstract: An improved deflection clip for connecting a stud to a structural building member while permitting relative compensating vertical movement of the clip, is disclosed. A planar sheet portion having a front end and a left and right side, has at least two perpendicular panels. A first panel extends downward at the front end of the planar sheet portion to form a bearing surface portion. The left side panel extends forward of the bearing surface portion and has an acute angle bend along its front width. This front segment is secured over the edge of a stud return, and the clip is then rotated so that the bearing surface portion contacts the outer surface of the stud flange. The laterally extending top surface of the planar sheet portion is then secured in any convenient manner to a bottom surface of a structural building member.

Abstract: The invention concerns a building element which is a stud (10) having a number of channels (12). Each channel can receive a cooperating means (14) which can be used to mount a panel or bracket on the stud. The invention also concerns a building element which is a joining clip (16) which can be connected to a panel or bracket. The joining clip includes the cooperating means (14) for mounting a panel or bracket on the stud. The invention also concerns a building element which is a joining element (42) which can connect one panel to another. The joining element is hinged (46). The invention also discloses two types of bracket for mounting in the stud. The first type has a screw-threaded shaft (71) and a sleeve (72) with cooperating means (73) at one end of the sleeve. The cooperating means is shaped so that it can be inserted horizontally in a channel of the stud and rotated so that the cooperating means cannot be withdrawn horizontally from the channel.

The unified sealing member is applied on top of the jointing means of the panel system wherein no modifications or alternations of the jointing means is required. As such, the protective joint cap may be applied directly to a jointing system in need of repair without the requirement of resealing the jointing system. Furthermore, the protective joint cap does not require an anchoring means to be installed prior to application. The protective joint cap further preferably contains an incorporated extrusion suitable for maintaining a bead of liquified elastomeric sealant, such as RTV, which may be applied prior to the sealing member's installation.

Abstract: Slidable connections from a support to a supported section combined with slidable end connections between adjoining supported sections allow relative motion between adjoining supported sections to be limited to less than the relative motion between adjoining supports. This is accomplished in an open-gap mullion embodiment for supporting a curtain wall assembly by providing an open gap between mullion sections equal to or less than a tolerable range for the curtain wall. When floor support deflections close the gap, further floor deflection causes an adjacent lower mullion section to provide support for the contacted upper mullion section that would otherwise move outside a tolerable range. In a limited-gap embodiment, the gap between mullion sections may exceed the tolerable motion of the associated curtain wall assembly, but a slidable gap-limiting means is provided to limit relative displacement between sections.

Abstract: A two-piece mullion reinforcement is provided for use in forming an assembly of windows. A first member is fastenable to a portion of a first window frame, and includes at least one piloting tab that extends along and projects outwardly from a surface of the first member. A second member is likewise fastenable to a portion of a second window frame, and includes at least one pilot receptacle that is formed on a surface of the second member. The pilot tab and pilot receptacle comprise mutually complementary profiles so as to be engagable with one another when the first window frame is assembled to the second window frame. The first member also includes a first portion of at least one latch and the second member includes a second portion of the at least one latch that is complementary to the first portion so that when the first window frame is assembled to the second window frame the first member and the second member cooperate to form at least one latch.

  • Patent number: 6412239
Abstract: The present invention is a window frame wherein all of the structural members are formed with the same substantially identically-shaped configuration by metal extrusion. A plurality of structural members are arranged to form a supporting structure. Each structural member has a U-shaped channel and a second arm spaced apart on defined by a base portion having a first arm and a second arms spaced apart on opposite lengthwise sides of said base portions. The first and second arms extending from said base portion have end portion turned inward and extending in a direction toward said base portion. Fastener detachable secure the plurality of structural members into a configuration adapted to detachable mount a translucent barrier within the supporting structure formed by the structural members.

  • Patent number: 6412242
Abstract: A fastening device for a glass panel (2) on a wall (3), a building-side substructure, or similar object, such as a building facade, using a clamp fitting (4) that grips the glass panel (2) and a holder (5) that is supported on the clamp fitting (4) so that it can move to a limited extent in three dimensions. The invention teaches that the holder (5) has a retaining pivot (6) that can be fixed in position on the clamp fitting (4), whereby on the outer free end (7) of the retaining pivot there is a connecting articulation (8) that can be fixed in position for the connection of a compensating shaft (9), which on its end (10) farther from the retaining pivot (6) is connected by means of an articulation (11) that can be fixed in position with an adapter (12) for fastening to a wall (3), a substructure or similar object.

  • Patent number: 6401410
Abstract: A glazing unit (1) comprises two sheets of glass (2, 3) which are separated by a spacer bar (5). An outer secondary seal (10) extends around the periphery of the glazing unit. The seal (10) has a number of peripherally spaced-apart fixing inserts (50) extending around the periphery of the glazing unit for fixing the glazing unit support (17). Each fixing insert (50) has a base wall section (51), parallel side walls (52) and end wall sections (53) which define an arcuate slot (55) closed at both ends. The configuration of the fixing inserts (50) allows simple fitting while ensuring the maximum bulk of material for structural strength. Opposed fixing inserts (50) are engaged, on assembly, by a toggle (60).
