  • Patent number: 8607516
Abstract: A process for installing quoins to a building structure includes fabricating a plurality of quoins, each including two quoin panels angularly disposed relative to each other and connected along a common edge. A true edge column is attached to the building structure, the true edge column including two column panels angularly disposed relative to each other along a common column edge. The plurality of quoins are then attached in stacked relation over and to the true edge column. Each of the quoins may include an outer and an inner surface, wherein the inner surface comprises a right-angled recess adjacent to the common edge and along the two quoin panels. The true edge column may be cooperatively sized to fit within the right-angled recess. A plurality of pre-drilled apertures may be disposed about the right-angle recess for fastening the quoins to the true edge column and building structure.

Abstract: A corner guard for protecting wall junctions adjacent uneven support surfaces such as a stair and floor surface is provided. The corner guard in an as-used position with first and second leg members extending upright from a floor and an adjacent second surface at a higher elevation such as a stair, protects the wall surfaces intersecting from a first wall surface extending above the floor and a second wall surface extending from the higher second wall surface from impacts and abrasions such as a hose being pulled around the corner at the intersection of the first wall surface and second wall surface. Positioning to accommodate differing elevational heights of first and second surfaces is provided by translational engagement of the first and second leg.

  • Patent number: 8584415
Abstract: A sealing gasket for use attached preferably to the topmost edge of gypsum board when used as construction wallboard. The gasket includes a support leg section capable of being mounted in engagement with preferably the uppermost edge of the gypsum board. The gasket includes a sealing leg extending outwardly from said leg section which includes an intumescent component to facilitate sealing between the edge of the gypsum board and the wall structure above. In one embodiment the sealing leg includes an intumescent impregnated paper material covered with a structurally enhancing layer. An adhesive layer can be included to attach the gasket to the gypsum wallboard. The sealing leg in this embodiment has an ā€œAā€ or ā€œPā€ profile and will extend upwardly and inwardly over the upper edge of the gypsum board at an obtuse angle with respect to the support leg for sealing thereabove in the head-of-wall area.

  • Patent number: 8572915
Abstract: An apparatus is used to cover a wall corner where lengths of cove base meet. One part is a wall adapter. It is composed of a right angle of thin material with one-half of a mechanical mating structure at its outer apex. The other part is a corner cover composed of a right angle of a thicker material with a narrower extent, but taller than the wall adapter. The cove base corner cover provides a unified junction between the two adjacent cove base sides of a corner. The corner cover is initially held correctly in place by being mechanically mated to the wall adapter. Corners may be inside or outside corners. Matings include snap fit, friction fit and a hanging tab and slot. These two types of covers might operate with a common wall adapter, but, of course, are of somewhat complementary shapes. Their right angles face in opposite orientations.

  • Patent number: 8572912
Abstract: A cover profile (1) for floors for adaptation to different applications is described, having at least one cover flange (10), having a fastening attachment (9), which divides the cover flange (10) into two legs (12, 13), on the bottom side of the cover flange (10), and having at least one bending groove (14), which is parallel to the profile axis, on the bottom side of at least one of the legs (12, 13), which are preferably of different widths. In order to provide advantageous design conditions, it is proposed that the cover flange (10) carry a coating (11), which forms a film hinge (16), on its outer side opposite to the fastening attachment (9) in the area of the bending groove (14), and the two leg sections on both sides of the bending groove (14) be supported against one another by a hinge block (19).

Abstract: A soffit enclosure for building roofs and the like of the type having at least one eave with a soffit thereunder. A first mounting member is attached to an adjacent exterior wall of the building and a second mounting member is disposed on a roof fascia of the building. The first and second mounting members support a plurality of soffit panels thereon. A decorative corbel member has a generally flat upper mounting portion with opposite end edges, a decorative lower portion shaped to enhance the appearance of the eave of the building, and first and second rigid hanger tabs disposed above and generally parallel with the mounting portion. The hanger tabs project longitudinally from the opposite end edges of the upper mounting portion and are configured for sequentially inserting into the first and second mounting members. The corbel member overlies adjacent soffit panel to conceal a joint disposed therebetween.

Abstract: The present invention provides a lath furring strip having improved water-resistant and insulation features. The lath furring strip has portions of the mounting leg height not exceeding 0.365 inches for proper plastering of a wall. The lath furring strip is integrated into other architectural structures such as reveals, expansion joints and window flange coverings. By integrating these structures with a lath furring strip having water proofing features, there is increased water proofing of the entire architectural structure. One or more moisture barriers can easily be applied to the wall or furring strips that prevents seepage of moisture from the stucco on the lath to a wall or framing. By using an improved lath furring strip, fewer penetrations are needed to secure the furring strip to a wall compared to securing a lath directly to a wall.

  • Patent number: 8539731
Abstract: The invention is a joint cover assembly and related method for covering a gap adjacent an edge of a panel that covers a sub-surface. The assembly includes a molding having a foot, a first arm, and a second arm. The foot is positioned along a longitudinal axis of the molding, wherein the first arm, and optionally the second arm, extend generally perpendicularly to the foot. A tab depends from at least one of the first and second arms. At least one of the tab and the foot engage a track in order to position the assembly over the gap. The method includes placing the foot in the gap, pressing the respective panel engaging surfaces into contact with respective panels, and configuring at least one of the tab and the foot to cooperate to retain the molding in the gap when the assembly is installed.

  • Patent number: 8522498
Abstract: A bracket system is disclosed for allowing conventional trim to be removably connected to a wall or ceiling or both while allowing the bracket system to be concealed behind the trim. The bracket system includes a wall bracket that is attached to the wall or ceiling or both and a trim bracket that is attached to conventional trim. The wall bracket and trim bracket interlock with each other and are held together in secure but removable mating contact. The wall bracket and trim bracket can be pulled apart or pushed together to allow for removal and reinstallation of trim without mechanical modification or destruction of any components. A preferred embodiment of the bracket system includes an insert bracket that is placed inside and concealed within the wall bracket. The insert bracket helps to retain cabling within the wall bracket when the trim bracket is removed or to keep cabling running along the bracket system separated.

  • Patent number: 8516759
Abstract: In one form of building structure, trim installations are applied around window or door frame openings and at internal or external corners of a building. The trim serves both an aesthetic purpose in adding a decorative feature to building envelopes and also adds an additional weatherproofing purpose in allowing for more complete weatherproofing of building envelope corners and openings. The present invention relates to a concealed fastening building finishing element system that enables concealed fastening of finishing elements such as trim components, fascia boards, frieze boards, belly band boards, and the like to an underlying structure and to the fixings used in these systems. The invention is particularly useful with trim elements around window and door frame openings and at building corners.
