Patent number: 6898918Abstract: The invention provides a rivet and method of installing the rivet to attach honeycomb material to other materials. The rivet is installed by drilling a hole through the materials. A back side sleeve of the rivet is inserted through one end of the hole while a front side sleeve with a stem member inserted therethrough is inserted through the other end of the hole such that the head of the stem member and the sleeve portion of the front sleeve are positioned within the sleeve portion of the back sleeve. The shank portion of the stem member is then pulled such that the head of the stem member expands the sleeve portions of the front and back sleeves into the materials to attach the rivet to the materials. A locking collar is also provided to lock the stem member to the front sleeve upon continued pulling of the stem member.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 2003Date of Patent: May 31, 2005Assignee: Textron Inc.Inventor: Soheil Eshraghi

Patent number: 4986867Abstract: The present invention generally relates to the mounting of windows in a frame, particularly to the mounting of windows of a vehicle, e.g. an automobile, in the body frame work. The invention provides a method for manufacturing a window ready to be mounted comprising, along its edges, a first profiled bead of adhesive material, already cured and having the general cross section of a U-profile. This first bead is elastic but not plastically deformable. The first bead comprises in its interior a second bead of plastically deformable not yet cured adhesive material consisting of a substance chemically compatible to the material of the first bead. The second bead, serving as the real adhesive material, is protected from environmental influences e.g. by covering it by a protection foil which is removed just prior to mounting the window.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1989Date of Patent: January 22, 1991Assignee: Gurit-Essex AGInventors: Jurg G. Patent number: 4441293Abstract: A construction panel comprises a non-combustible fire-resisting board e.g. of fibre-reinforced cement or calcium silicate binder, faced on one or both of its major faces with a metal facing. A "floating floor" for marine use is formed by joining the panels in edgewise abutting relationship. The joint is suitably formed by providing each panel with edge grooves placing the panels in edgewise abutting relationship, inserting a spline into the edge grooves of adjacent abutting panels and driving a staple into the abutting panels such that the limbs of the staple are deflected upon contacting the spline. The assembly of panels is suitably supported on a mass of mineral wool.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1982Date of Patent: April 10, 1984Assignee: Cape Boards & Panels LimitedInventors: George McQueen, Victor E. Patent number: 4267954Abstract: A steel floor construction for freight hauling vehicles includes a plurality of elongated floor planking members arranged in side-by-side relation to provide a load bearing floor with a nailing groove between adjacent planking members. Each plank includes a downwardly open channel member having a relatively wide central web supported along its edges by integrally formed downwardly extending flanges, with the web being reinforced along its length by an upwardly directed generally U-shaped member welded to its bottom surface and having a pattern of anti-skid projections die-formed on and project upwardly from its top surface. The channels are progressively roll formed from a continuous length of strip steel by passing the strip through a series of forming roll pairs.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1979Date of Patent: May 19, 1981Assignee: National Steel CorporationInventor: James T. Patent number: 4010587Abstract: Nailable flooring is constructed of identical floor units having roll-formed therein closed bottom nailing grooves of serpentine contour for the retention of nail fasteners held in place as they are deformed upon insertion into the grooves. The grooves are disposed between opposite side edges of the units and/or mating portions of such grooves are roll-formed along such side edges. The bottoms of the grooves are substantially triangular in cross-section thereby negating the crippling effect of each groove structure which thereby functions similarly to that of a beam web.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1976Date of Patent: March 8, 1977Inventor: Glen D. Patent number: 3945164Abstract: A nailable hollow structural member comprising an elongated hollow member of sheet metal formed to define opposed clamping walls and end walls spaced apart between the clamping walls. The clamping walls extend in substantially parallel planes. An elongated boss is formed in each of the clamping walls and extends longitudinally of the tubular member in alignment with one another. One of the clamping walls and one of the end walls has a connectable portion opposed to one another. Spacer means is provided for maintaining one of the clamping walls in juxtaposition with a clamping wall of another hollow member and spaced apart by the spacer means to form an elongated opening between the hollow member constituting a nail receiving slot. Means are also provided for movably securing two or more of the hollow members with the clamping walls juxtaposed. The elongated boss in both of the clamping walls deforms a nail inserted in the slot to retain it therein.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1974Date of Patent: March 23, 1976Assignee: IEC-Holden Ltd.Inventor: Robert Beck Winsor
