Sheet Or Wire Tie Patents (Class 52/712)
  • Publication number: 20130232909
Abstract: A thermal clip attachment apparatus and methods for using the thermal clip attachment with a masonry veneer anchor system are disclosed. The thermal clip attachment may be a composite piece that attaches to the part of a stud that protrudes from an inner structural supportive wall after the stud is advanced into the wall. The thermal clip attachment serves as a thermal break between the stud and an outer masonry veneer wall. Further, the thermal clip attachment also serves as an attachment point for a wire tie, which allows a positive lateral load connection to be established between the outer masonry veneer wall and the inner structural supportive wall.

Abstract: Barriers for flood defense and other purposes are often constructed using sand bags. The strength of these barriers is limited and the invention seeks to address this problem. The invention provides a tie formed as a single injection moulded item placed between layers of sandbags to help to hold them together. The tie has two rigid triangular end plates (4) and (5) linked by a flexible arm (11). The end plates are formed with protruding spikes (6) shaped with a barb so that they will easily penetrate the fabric of a sandbag but are difficult to pull out. In use, each tie is placed between layers of sandbags so that spikes of respective plates (4) and (5) become anchored to adjoining bags. The bags of the barrier are thus held together and any irregularities in it are accommodated by the flexibility of the arm (11). Slots (14) and lugs (15) allow a plurality of ties to be linked together as may be required when oversize sandbags are employed.

Abstract: A novel, triangular connector containing intersecting triangles and tabs. Triangles are connected along their longest sides by a bend. Tabs are connected to the sides of the triangles opposite the longest sides. The tabs have nail holes for attaching to intersecting structural members on a building. When fastened to the structural members, the connector forms a gusset with multiple intersecting triangles. These provide multi-angles of stiffness. The connector helps prevent movement of the structural members during seismic events. The connector can be retrofitted to vertical and horizontal beams on a building to help prevent earthquake and hurricane damage.

  • Patent number: 8132383
Abstract: A metal clip is provided for facilitating the attachment of metal strips and wallboard to columns and beams. The metal clip includes a base section and a spring retainer extending from the base section. A portion of a column or beam, such as flange, can be inserted between the spring retainer and the base section and the spring retainer will exert sufficient force on the column or beam to hold the metal clip in place. A pair of foldout clips is formed on exterior surfaces of the metal clip for receiving and holding angle strips. Wallboard can be secured exteriorly of the metal clips and angle strips by screws that extend through the wallboard, through the angle strips and into the respective metal clips.

  • Publication number: 20110247291
Abstract: A modular wire device to support and maintain the position of horizontal and vertical reinforcement bars in concrete masonry unit walls. Additionally, the device may function to provide structural support and to act as the base for attaching insulation, bricks or other veneers to a wall structure. The wire support device comprises a planar wire frame to be set within horizontal mortar joints, coupled with a plurality wire cross members. The wire cross members may have crimps and loops to precisely align horizontal and vertical reinforcement bars. Hingedly attached extension members may extend outward from the wire frame and the face of the wall to vertical wire surface material supports using end loops to provide support for insulation, brick or other veneers. The frame and horizontal bars provide additional structural reinforcement across the wall thickness.

  • Patent number: 8028477
Abstract: A peak gusset for securing a safety line for a workman, a roof truss and an anchoring system incorporating the same. The gusset is a substantially planar plate including an attachment region, a coplanar anchor portion and bendable flaps. A plurality of teeth extends from the attachment region and into the side of a truss member adjacent the peak. The anchor portion extends laterally beyond the peak and a hole defined therein receives the security line. The hole is disposed above an upper surface of the truss member and vertically beneath the peak. The gusset is non-removable and does not need to be cut down before a ventilation cap is applied thereover. A pair of peak gussets can be secured on either side of a truss and a connector member for attachment of the security line can extend between peak gussets on adjacent trusses.

  • Publication number: 20110197541
Abstract: This invention is a piece of sheet metal bent into a Z shape. It has integral U shaped tabs at each end of the Z shaped clip. The tabs are created by having the bottom portion of the Z extend 6 to 8 inches longer than the middle and top portions. This longer flat portion is then double bent away from the middle portion to form U shaped tabs. The tabs wrap around the two opposing flanges of a steel bar joist, I-beam or H-column and hold the Z shaped clip onto the bar joist, I-beam or column. The Z clip can be installed prior to spray applied fireproofing used in structural steel buildings. It subsequently provides a connection point for metal stud walls and other materials or equipment that need to be supported by the steel structure at a specific distance away from the bar joist, I-beam or column.

Abstract: In one form of building structure, trim installations are applied around window or door frame openings and at internal or external corners of a building. The trim serves both an aesthetic purpose in adding a decorative feature to building envelopes and also adds an additional weatherproofing purpose in allowing for more complete weatherproofing of building envelope corners and openings. The present invention relates to a concealed fastening building finishing element system that enables concealed fastening of finishing elements such as trim components, fascia boards, frieze boards, belly band boards, and the like to an underlying structure and to the fixings used in these systems. The invention is particularly useful with trim elements around window and door frame openings and at building corners.
