  • Patent number: 6706811
Abstract: The invention discloses an efficient and convenient method for the preparation of an aqueous emulsion of an organopolysiloxane having long-chain alkyl groups bonded to the silicon atoms. Instead of dispersing and emulsifying an organopolysiloxane modified in advance with long-chain alkyl groups in an aqueous medium, as is the case in the prior art method, an organohydrogenpolysiloxane having silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms and a long-chain &agr;-olefin compound are co-emulsified in an aqueous medium containing a surface active agent and this aqueous emulsion is heated under agitation with addition of a catalytic platinum compound so as to effect the in situ hydrosilation reaction between the silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms in the organohydrogenpolysiloxane and the ethylenically unsaturated bonds in the &agr;-olefin compound. The aqueous emulsion prepared by the inventive method exhibits excellent stability against long-term storage, dilution with water and mechanical shearing force.

  • Patent number: 5889108
Abstract: Low molecular weight siloxane fluids are thickened by silicone elastomers. The silicone elastomers are made by combining in one pot an .tbd.Si--H containing siloxane, a mono-alkenyl polyether, an alpha, omega-diene, and a low molecular weight siloxane fluid. An elastomer, i.e. gel, with polyether groups is produced. The elastomer can be swollen with the low molecular weight siloxane fluid under shear force, to provide a uniform silicone paste. The silicone paste has excellent spreadability upon rubbing, and possesses unique rheological properties in being thixotropic and shear thinning. The silicone paste can be easily emulsified with water to form a stable uniform emulsion, without using a surfactant to allow normally immiscible materials to become intimately mixed.

Abstract: A room temperature curable rubber composition of a condensation curing type that comprises as a base polymer a diorganopolysiloxane or a polyoxyalkylene in which both ends of the molecular chain are blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and a .beta.-dicarbonyl compound and an amino group containing organic compound that are blended with the base polymer. Since the room temperature curable rubber composition is cured with water in the air and at the same time the dehydration condensation of the .beta.-carbonyl group and the amino group produces water in the composition, the quick curability and deep curability are improved remarkably. In addition, since this dehydration condensation reaction is an irreversible reaction, the product produced by the condensation dehydration is hydrolyzed to prevent the amino group containing compound from being regenerated, and as a result the hydrophilic nature of the cured product is prevented from increasing not to damage the water resistance.
