Abstract: A synthetic polymer yarn comprising a bicomponent yarn and a second yarn combined to form a single yarn is disclosed. The bicomponent yarn is made up from a first component and a second component each comprised of a fiber-forming polymer and each having different shrinkages from the other to effectuate a bulking effect. This differential shrinkage may be obtained, for example, by using different polymers or similar polymers having different relative viscosities. The synthetic polymer yarn of the present invention has advantageously exhibited an improved visual effect, including a stratified effect, which improves the visual composition of products produced using the yarn. Moreover, the fabrics produced from the yarn have improved hand and stretch and recovery.

Abstract: This invention relates to high molecular weight block copolymers of &egr;-caprolactone and &ohgr;-lauryl lactam prepared by sequential bulk polymerization using a mixture of at least one anionic polymerization initiator and optionally at least one co-initiator. A preferred continuous sequential bulk reactive extrusion process comprises feeding a mixture of &ohgr;-lauryl lactam, at least one anionic polymerization initiator, and at least one co-initiator into the first (i.e., upstream) hopper of an extruder, and thereafter feeding &egr;-caprolactone into a second (i.e., downstream) hopper of the extruder. The preferred continuous sequential bulk reactive extrusion is solvent free, rapid (typical mean and maximum residence times in the extruder being no more than about 20 minutes and 30 minutes respectively), and produces a high conversion of monomers to block copolymer.

Abstract: A sulfur-containing water insoluble hydrogel polymer for selectively removing trace amounts of dissolved metal species is produced from a reaction product of nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) and polyethylenimine (PEI) which is then treated in a water-swollen state with carbon disulfide. The polymer has a physical configuration that facilitates formation of a porous stationary bed through which water can pass for treatment.

Abstract: A dispersant is prepared from an amine and a hydrocarbyl-substituted acylating agent, wherein the hydrocarbyl substituent is a polymerized olefin having a polydispersity {overscore (M)}w/{overscore (M)}n of greater than 5. Such polyolefin substituents are prepared by polymerization of olefins in the presence of a calcined catalyst comprising a partially or fully neutralized ammonium salt of a heteropolyacid.

Abstract: Multiple coat non-stick coating systems, as well as articles coated with such non-stick coating systems, are provided. The primer (22a) of the multiple coat system includes a fluoropolymer (14a) copolymer, such as a fluoropolymer terpolymer including tetrafluoroethylene, hexafluoropropylene, and vinylidene fluoride monomers, which fluoropolymer copolymers are referred to collectively as THV. The multiple coat system exhibits excellent substrate adhesion and release properties, and the primer exhibits excellent primer-substrate adhesion and primer-topcoat adhesion. The multiple coat system is additionally resistant to separation failure at the interface between the binder (12) and fluoropolymer components of the primer, exhibits excellent adhesion to smooth substrates (16) and may also include a high level of fillers to provide increased damage resistance without compromising the above benefits.

Abstract: Disclosed are a polyamide resin composition and a synthetic resin product prepared therefrom. The polyamide resin composition comprises 30-95 parts by weight of polyamide resin, 1-45 parts by weight of impact resistant component, 0.1-20 parts by weight of nylon plasticizer, 0.01-5 parts by weight of nylon thickener having at least two functional groups at the ends of its polymer chain and 0.5-10 parts by weight of core-shell rubber. Such composition is advantageous in light of much lower preparation cost, while retaining higher flexibility, moldability and excellent external appearance, compared to conventional nylon elastomer reinforced polyamide resin composition. Thereby, the composition can be effectively applied to internal or external decorative articles for motor vehicles and electrical or electronic components.
